I misspoke at the end of the video (honestly, again, MTG product contents have become so convoluted and shifting that even I am frequently making minor errors like this, so imagine the average customer): It's two (2) NON-foil expeditions in the topper with a CHANCE at additional expeditions IN foil IN the Collector box, meaning you could potentially walk away with multiple full art and even foil fetchlands.
In my local Store a box is 95.- Swiss Francs (~100$) 😂👍🏼

Rudy/Alpha Investments does unboxings and you get the 2 non-foil box toppers and between 2 and 3, possibly foil, lands in the Collectors box.

Wizards of the Coast need to bring back MSRP on Magic: The Gathering products so their customer know they are getting a product for a fair price. Not doing so damages both brand and identity, as well as customer enjoyment and overall reception of the product. If you WANT to knowingly pay more for a product, fine, knock yourself out, but I am beyond frustrated with how many people are UNKNOWINGLY paying FAR too much for Magic products due to a lack of MSRP. "Oh, Commander Legends is $150 per box? Ok?" No, it is not okay. Don't pay above $125, and quite frankly, there's more available for less.
Completely agree. I got lucky and my lgs was selling for £100 on preorder so I feel like I got a good deal. Saving the box to draft with friends when it’s safe!

This very thing is what scares me about Commander Collection: Green thats coming out in a few weeks... Normally products like that are around $50 or so, but majority of places, even high end online retailers are preordering them for $100+... It just feels really scummy to not have an msrp...

The first LGS I went to attempted to charge me $160 BEFORE tax, and with a Baron Sengir instead of Mana Confluence!!! Literally told them I'd just take my money to a store that charges less and did just that! Got my box with the proper promo for $130 AND more in-store credit than the first store would have given me. This is what happens when you treat your customers unfairly! Professor is right, don't let scummy store owners price gouge you!

My LGS owner is basically a friend of mine now. Paid $125 for the booster box and got Baron and Mana Confluence.

I got mine for $150 flat with both baron and mana confluence. Which I am pretty content with. Got a vampiric tutor and plenty of fun commanders. But then again my living situation isn't like others and I can definitely see the $20 extra being steep for some people.

The market rate on those appears to be $400... I assume he got it for MUCH MUCH less than that before the speculator bubble that's popping off right now. So, technically it's an amazing investment if he locks in those gains.

To be fair, Homelands is a better draft experience than commander legends.

it was the first release I was psyched about for a while and then it didn't make it in functional volume. Hopefully when the world goes back to normal...

This is my go to MtG channel for product reviews because unlike other CZcamsrs, the professor never bullshits about the price, value and the blunders of both WotC and some LGS when it comes to handling Magic products. Whether it’s the perpetual lie of the reserve list, the obvious mark ups due to lack of MSRP, or the rip offs that are collector and premium packs, the professor always tells it straight and provides good advice for any would be buyers to avoid bad merchants and bad products.
Thank you professor for always being a diligent and honest reviewer looking out for the players first before any business interests. If only more people were like you, and were interested in, you know, playing this game and helping others play and have fun with the game, instead of trying to rip off suckers in the second hand market or pushing BS products because “value” or whatever. I can only imagine how much better the game would be if we had more professors and less wanna be Wall Street traders

The Professor is always properly critical, without going too far in the other direction and creating fake outrage to drive clicks. He's very honest and even handed.

This product offers an amazing draft experience. I wouldn't recommande just to crack packs, but it's great to be able to draft the commander format!

Thays the only reason I'm grabbing 2 boxes to sit on to draft later down the line honestly. I already bought the only 2 cards I wanted out of the set in oppo agent and undergrowth Stadium for my meren deck i just want to draft it now in the future.
As someone who bought a box and a collector box, I agree. Unfortunately my store isn't doing drafts yet because Florida is still surging with cases, but it does seem like a phenomenal draft set for sure

I got a jeweled lotus from one of the three pack boosters at walmart, I’m really new to the hobby, and I had no idea it was worth that much until I saw the video and my heart literally skipped a beat
This is one of the few rare times I must disagree with you, I found drafting with four people to be an extremely zesty and rewarding enterprise. I also find the monarch cards in particular to be a barrel of fun in my commander decks and games. Hullbreacher and opposition agent are absolute bombs, too.
I'm a new subscriber but the professor is already one of my favorite magic channels. I could honestly listen to this man talk about anything for 20 minutes at a time and never be bored

Good Afternoon Prof :) I just want to say thank you, again and as always, for the content you put out for us. I can now say that I have watched all of those in your youtube videos list. I also allow them to stream on my computer, whilst I go about my other business, so that I can listen for things I missed and to continue to help the views. I look forward to your future videos and have eyed some TCC merchandise that is going to make great Holiday stocking stuffers. Best wishes for a prosperous close to 2020.
After drafting the set on mtgo I do have to say it’s been shockingly fun. The games have been about an hour to 1:20 and there have been a lot of really cool interactions. Personal favorite play was a pirates deck that used coercive recruiter to take my Araumi, then used her to encore more pirates from the graveyard, stealing even more stuff from everyone and getting in for a huge swing.
I was able to play this in both draft and sealed, and personally, found the game play to be fun and varied. The game seemed to only get jammed up when multiple players (2+) were playing the token, elf or pirate archetypes.
I sat right next to a fellow elf ganger and then played my first match with them...
While I agree with almost everything here, I can't abide the take that this draft format is "not commander enough". That's unfair to the concept. An Eldraine draft does not contain games of standard. A Horizons draft does not contain games of modern. An expectation for this draft format to conform so closely to constructed commander feels unreasonable to me.
True but the gap feels a bit Larger this time. Breaking the Singleton rule is what most disturbed me. Is as if in standard drafts you could go up to 8 of the same card.

@@RobMedellin Yes. That is how drafts work. You pick up 8 copies of any card in a draft, it is legal to include all of them.

@@RobMedellin No limited format contains any limits on copies of a single card. There are a few odd exceptions such as Seven Dwarves, where the card itself specifies a limit of 7.

I'm always suprised how much cheaper the card prices are in Europe.
The problem in NA is the immense inflation from night to day. The main way for people to buy cards in Europe is through Card Market, where anyone can buy or sell, which makes the prices more competitive. They have a really good system.

My lgs sells commander legends for 130€ per box !
I bought 12 boosters for the prerealese and had to pay nearly 70€ for it
And for standard sets the prerealese packs cost 40€ to participate to the event. It's not worth it compzred to the price of the singles online so it's more and more difficult for us to keep playing at our lgs. The inflation is HUGE compared to a few years ago when we could buy those prerelease packs for less than 30€, I remember my lgs sold them for 26 € in 2017

Last standard pre release I went was from theros and it was 23€, it seems asking a bit too much for players to play 40€ for standard, that's the price for a draft of modern horizons. I'm speaking from Portugal, I'm really curious where are they making those insane prices??
They said Battlebond was print to demand. I listened and didn't paid the exorbitant prices. I'm still waiting for the second reprint...

I purchased a box solely to draft with friends as we often play a more casual form of commander on a regular basis so a bit of Derdoling is to be expected. I hope the draft experience is positive and really appreciate how you take a critical look at products with your years of experience playing the game and analyzing products
Halfway through the video and I'm happy we finally talk about the draft, he said the word "game" and an ad rolls. I feel like this is a symbol for what wizards has been up to.

I was skeptical on how it would play out, I thought it would just be okay draft with commanders. But this felt like a commander experience, kinda like the precons. I did a modo draft and man it was super fun, to be able to get that out of a couple packs is really impressive.
We have played this yesterday with my playgroup and it is a ton of fun!

This set is actually really fun to draft. My family and myself had a fun time drafting it, but I knew the prices were going to tank when it actually released.

Seriously I wait two weeks, then two months for buying anything thats over 5 dollars during release. Usually prices are crazy till then. Best I do is wait a year after release when new "bling" comes out and prices have typically bottomed out. Works great for picking up cheap s standard cards on rotation and filling out collections of new neat things to play with.
This set is great for a lot of quality less than 5 dollar "build around" commanders which I think is awesome.

Wow, this is the most I’ve ever disagreed with a video of yours. I played multiple webcam prerelease sealed events and it was so much fun. It really felt like a commander game. Way better than most prerelease events. Going to do some sealed with friends as well. You can have a lot of fun with a box

Couple of my friends and I drafted this and as you said everything is subjected. We had a great time and found we created very balanced decks and nobody had to use a piper. Fun enough we are planing to do it again.

Hey professor, I pre-ordered 2 draft displays for 90€ each as a beginning player to start my commanders collection , only having 2 decks (Winota and recently build omnath loc ) so far and like 200 bulk cards. As a new player I want to say , don't buy this display for value or to draft for fun games with friends. I pulled 1 Vampiric Tutor in each display , which my friends told me I am lucky , I don't feel like it. I expected to pull a lot of new interesting commanders which could enhance the battlefield with new effects, even the commander format or give me some ideas to creat fun decks . I pulled 4 new legendary characters I would love to build a deck around out of 100+ ... The others are having similar effects +1/+1 to character or search library for smth ... I bought this display to inspire me to create new decks , and in some ways it fulfilled my expectations . Maybe I could build cheap decks for friends out of the easier to play legendaries as a Christmas gift . But in the end it's an below average set and the professor is always right when he says BUY SINGLE CARDS !

I normally place most of my box orders online due to pricing but I decided to look for a local LGS for CL. Found one that opened recently that was booming pre-COVID! They had a great staff and fair pricing. Might go there when events start to re-open.

I disagree here, one of the first times I’ve done so with him. I think the gameplay of this set is very fun
I agree. My sister came up to play with us for my birthday weekend and we have had more fun with this set than any other set for limited. We were watching this video expecting him to gush about the gameplay (not talking about price) and we all gapped when he said it felt awkward. It was so fun!!!
@@dorsalfin22 I also drafted with my sister and other family, we had a blast. My four year old could not draft because he can't read but brought his gishath deck to the game play. My twelve year old opened a foil mana drain and non foil vampiric tutor in a single pack and kept them both. As he had saved up his pocket money to pay for a quarter of the box, I had no valid excuss to relieve him of them "It burns". My sister and I live interstate and this draft was a great excuses to get together and we had a lot of fun. Cracking this set as part of a draft and keeping your cards is worth it in my opinion, especially if you are a commander player and are looking or reprints or interesting commanders.

I was able to do a 4 player draft of this last night. We had a great time, monarch really helped push the flow of the game.
I pulled a full art jeweled lotus on my 1 and only collector's pack that I bought😳, I only bought 1 cause their so much but I figured... then when I seen it I flipped lol

EDH is a format I've quickly grown to love since starting MTG (about a year ago) and I was honesly the most excited to see them finish off the Battlebond dual lands as well as for reprints, like Shimmer Myr, that have been a pain in the a** to find here in Canada.

this is my first time ever buying a box of something. I pre-ordered it as soon as the game store I order through started accepting pre-orders, and before there were any leaks or anything beyond the most vague previews. initially, I was gonna get this for when my friend from the navy comes to down with his fie and we could do a draft, but we then agreed that I'd sort of make a CML cube-ish thing and i'd just crack 'em... because honestly? I pre-ordered this set because I love commander and I just wanted to see what zaney stuff I'd crack and I'd be able to brew with.
That being said, my box still hasn't been mailed out because Flipside gaming doesn't seem to have gotten their allocation.
Also, where in the heck are you seeing Ramos etched foil for $7? I've been looking around and it's always been $20+

I’d Recommend playing online. Magic Arena is there, but there’s also ways to play on plenty of other websites and through various programs if you’re looking for a less collection-restricted format.
Lets you get around having to gather in public places to play, if nothing else.
I would recommend untap.in, especially if you have a regular play group that you can convince to join you.

Honestly I wish I could be excited for this product. But I loved edh for the fact I often saw such old and strange cards. And it didn't feel so much like an arms race. But I'm probably just being an old fogey.

I bought three draft boxes and one collector's box of this set. I can't wait to DRAFT it with my friends. I'm eventually going to make a Commander Cube based off it with both Conspiracy sets added in along with other choice cards. It was always hard to get my friends to play Commander as only myself and one other friend would truly build decks and everyone else always couldn't really keep up. This set and the Conspiracy sets along with my eventual cube really solve the problem of my playgroup.

I've had a ton of run with the draft format. Monarch does a great job getting people to attack and pretty much everyone finds some synergy for their deck. I also haven't had issues with board stalls because of how good encore is.
Why does WotC even print foils? Nobody seems to like them.

Normally, I agree with your assessments, but I fundamentally disagree with most of your critiques. No hard feelings, just that we disagree. I had a BLAST playing this game and drafting. I'm sorry your experience was so poor. It is the minority.
I agree with you. This critics doesn't apply for everyone in my community this was of the best drafts and cracking packs in years and we'll continue doing so.

My brother and I cracked our CL booster box this weekend and drafted it with my wife and brother in law and we had a great time! The idea that Commander Draft would be different from regular draft doesn't seem tough to grok to me, but perhaps that's because I am not a big draft player. This type of draft is probably what I'll try and do with my next box of draft boosters in Kaldheim and I'm excited to draft CL again.
Me: Nah, I'm buying singles.

Hey prof, love your content. This was a rare video where I have a dissenting opinion. My mini play group (4 experienced drafters and commander players), enjoyed the draft experience so much, we're already planning several more kitchen table events. Our consensus is that it does bring a fun and unique vibe, just like Conspiracy and Un-sets have in past. Otherwise fully agree. Maybe give draft another chance?

First one had 1 Mythic and 2 Rares.. second one only 1 rare. That's the variance to deal with.
Anyhow.. I am still positive that we can have an Xmas sealed event with family and friends over here in Germany as it is our tradition. The set seems to be fun for our very casual play group. Cheers :)
