MTR earns its fame for the efficient land use in combination with rail management. HK busses are also very competent for when MTR is disrupted. The only shame I understand with MTR is with its involvement in corralling protesters in 2018-2019
Local subways can't be the only rail transit for such huge cities. This kind of express is needed more in the tier 1 cities, because people do commute huge distances. However, I don't know why Guangzhou didn't include local service like on line 14 or line 21, and I guess the existing conventional rail is not straight enough, and is at capacity with cargo and long-haul-passenger trains.
