Very skilled drivers. I think at some point their race was not about winning, but the display of control. As you said, 'Dancing.'. Then the Thunderbird showed up lol

I remember when A40s were the top racing saloon car. I was at Brands Hatch when the late Chris Aries took the all out saloon car record in one for the club circuit. It was the fastest anyone had ever driven any saloon round it.

My parents had an America too. British Racing Green. Purchased new at Insero Motors (defunct) in Newburyport, Massachusetts. We had a family of seven. Not an ideal family sedan. But oh so cheap for a new machine. Alas, very unreliable and my dad replaced it with a new Popsicle orange VW Squareback. Memories: my rather deranged brother specialized in America two wheel cornering.

@@texleeger8973 Interesting. I had mine (bought new in 1970) and I kept it for 22 months. It was a riot to drive but it was always broken. I did earn an honorary degree in mechanical engineering working on it. :-) And like your dad my next car was a VW! A limited-edition 1973 VW Sport Bug in Saturn Yellow which I drove for 13 years. I'd love to find a new one in a box somewhere.

I learned to drive in an A40 (Mk2) and passed my test (1st time) in an Escort Mk1.

Passed my test back in ' 66 in a ''64 Mk11 A40 .Seem to recall it didn't go as well as these two !
