I would highly recommend going on an architecture tour instead of a celebrity homes tour! They're really informative, not a typical touristy thing to do, and they teach you a lot about the unknown history of the city. I was born in raised in LA and I love learning new things about my city by doing those tours! Ps. They make up almost all of those celebrity house tours. Most celebs either don't live in the hills or don't give away their addresses lol
and do they actually live there? that's the real question. It would be annoying as shit to wake up in the morning, try to grab the paper/mail and be confronted with a celebrity tour bus.

With an LA library card, there's a bunch of fun, touristy stuff you can do for freeeee! I'm a Koreatown kid hailing from Canada, and the library resources have been the most useful in helping me get a more detailed picture of the sprawling LA County.
Lived in the LA area my whole life (Long Beach) - literally never heard of that market. I finally went to Hollywood/Highland for the first time in 2017. If you're born are raised here, you know all those place are full of transplants and you avoid them all.

I remember going to Rodeo Drive for the first time and was SOOOO underwhelmed... I was like this is it?!?! TV makes it seem more grand than it really is for sure... LA/Hollywood is really just a pipe dream, the only thing it has going for it is the proximity to the ocean
I grew up in the L.A area most of my life (Lynwood, Compton, Downey) and it's crazy bc every time I go out to that area (Hollywood, Beverly Hills, etc) it feels really foreign to me. Lol It's really interesting to see the racial demographics of the city never really portrayed accurately in films or tv.
I love the Los Angeles vibe. When I first visited, I had no expectations like the ones people seem to have. I fell in love with a very real place. I don't get why people don't love it. I love the gritty, hot, plastic reality of it, all of it. I've been all over and it's the only place I've every felt like I wasn't on the wrong planet and I didn't know I could feel that way about any place. I don't get the expectations that people have that it's like a movie or magazine ad. All the things that disillusion people are the things that endear it to me, that make me want to move there. Well, not so much the traffic or the expense. But I put up with that living where I do.

I love watching people talk about Los Angeles like its "their" city when they moved there to be a part of an entertainment sub-reality scene. They say things like "yea it's not what it looked like on t.v. when I was growing up somewhere else"... buying 25$ juice shots, walking in Griffith park, talking about how much things cost there, etc. Its so predictable! And also very much not how Angelenos live. And yes I'm from CA.
OMg when I first moved to LA I lived right at Hollywood like a block away from the walk of fame and it was not glamours đ but it created memories because none of us knew what we were doing đ
