I suspect that the bank is simply making an excellent business decision.
I don't know if I could care less whether or not Mr. Lindell's account was closed or not. The more interesting aspect this story brings up for me is that having a bank account probably _should_ be a right, considering how necessary they are, and ideas such as offering banking services at post offices are something I'm more interested in hearing about, and how this could positively impact poor and otherwise marginalized communities.

In Canada a bank cannot refuse to open an account for you if you have valid ID and proof of your address. The only exception is if you were convicted of criminal fraud. However, credit unions and trust banks can refuse you.
I also think a private bank account is different from a business bank account.

I was one of - I don't know how many regular customers - who petitioned Bed, Bath & Beyond to drop the "My Pillow" line after he went over the MAGA edge. Did we expect them to actually do that? Most of us, myself included, probably didn't think so, but we wanted to make ourselves heard on this issue, so it was a pleasant surprise when B B & B actually did drop the line. They made a business decision which could have gone the other way - that would have been their right - but they agreed and so My Pillow is no longer sold in their stores, and that was also their right. Note to Mike Pillow: This is called "Free Enterprise" - a principle you support, right? Sometimes, maybe...when it suits you and your Dear Leader.
If someone's a liability, a bank should have the right to close accounts. Like in the movie "Scarface" the bank wouldn't take sacks of drug money anymore and didn't want to deal with Tony Montana anymore. The bank's reputation was at stake.

In states where marijuana has been legalized, pot shops frequently find it hard to get a bank to deal with them. Pot is STILL illegal at the Fed level and banks don't want to risk the Fed charging them with aiding and abetting and/or conspiracy.
If they transport any cash, they get robbed by the police who immediately hand it to federal agents. Later a percentage will be given back to the police.
