Did you set both cameras to the same white balance when comparing?
Yes. The same settings for each.
So basically u have to expose for the highlights on sigma
On any digital camera you expose for the highlights. That is why they like to be underexposed.
Still I'm confused why you are testing the ISO when the light is already there, this is not really camera responds with low light
By bringing the aperture down/shutter speed up, they are mimicking a dark environment and the ISO does its job to brighten the image.
Panasonic S1H ? (typo) , i think for low light test better in real low light condition, dont forget to white balance setup to get same color, this channel give us something different, good job dude .

Aren't they literally incomparable?
One of them is a 12-bit raw cinema camera with an ability to take stills
The other one is a capable 8-bit hybrid with somewhat okay 4k

Why are you comparing a Sony a7iii to a Cinecamera in photografie ??????
The sigma fp is not ment for that its like camparing a ferrari to a van to see witch one hase more space inside.
They are both crossover cameras and that was the basis for the comparison.
There are two different grips available for the fp, you are supposed to mount one of those when you are using it with the sigma 50/1.4.

to be fair I would never buy the sigma fp for photos, it's a video camera that can take photos (shoots 12bit raw video), while the sony is a photo camera that can shoot video

For a pure picture quality test you should have used Sigma lenses on both cameras!

Yuda Harvey No, I think even at ISO 100 the colour from the FP is much better than its Foveon X3’s colour. The Foveon X3 actually only wins in its detail but not its colour.

...you also get poor autofocus, over-sharpened video, poor lens choices for a system that will eventually become extinct like the Dodo bird.

darqmage65 Hmm, I’ll remember that if I ever actually use it for video... You know some people actually use these for still photography. Also, I use legacy lenses with it as well and Yellow crappy skin tones are a deal breaker where an adapter on a 200 f/2 is phenomenal.
I think that Sigma made a mistake marketing the fp as a stills capable camera. It's clearly all-in on the video aspects but, people keep reviewing the stills part because that's what Sigma advertises.
It's pretty compelling as a stills camera. You should check out reviews from Steve Huff and Speedy Fifty.
I love the Sigma FP as a sills camera, for my pictures and style it’s perfect.
And I had Sony a73 but sold it pretty quick, guess I never got along with Sony cameras.
FP is the camera I bring with me anywhere.
Colour looks nicer on the Sigma FP than the Sony A7. Especially the skin tones.

The L mount cameras render colors/tonality very well (skin in particular) out of the box. Sony, you have to massage.
I agree - I would choose the Sigma. Maybe its the lens. But the Sigma certainly looked so much nicer and the colour of her top was a million times more vivid than the Sony. I was wondering how they missed that richness of the Sigma colours in their comparison. Shows that pixel peepers may be missing a trick. This will cause me to take a good look at Sigma lenses.... I recall seeing one video which was so vivid and was shot on a Sigma lens. I'll be on the lookout for objective measurements of lens and camera performance. like on DXOMark.
How? She's supposed to have beautiful brown skin but it makes her look red and white, like she has a cold...
Sigma rendition is clearly superior, yet it requires more precision exposure. Typical for Sigma to go for the perfectionist-virtuoso route rather than the easy-to-work-with one. Looking forward to the Foveon (which will be an unbridled stills shooter.)

@@TheSlantedLens That's a good question. One clear advantage of the Foveon structure is that the resolution is effectively double so on one hand the natural comparator would be the S1R, as it's the standard high-resolution option for L mount.
Each spatial pixel gets three colour readings, whereas Bayer cameras require four spatial pixels to get just one colour reading - that's a factor 12 advantage to Foveon. This also produces clearer slants and clarity when there are several overlapping objects (webs, gates, leaves, water) as well as organic subjects (human beings, animals, elemental materials)
The two other comparisons which may be interesting would be:
Fuji X-Trans, since these two are known for their colour portrayals.
Film. Some people say Foveon has film-like properties, whereas others say that it's the very opposite of film, and it's just the methodical workflow that gives it the MF film vibe.
This is the first full-frame Foveon, and this brings two gifts:
- it mitigates the need to stay at low ISO
- it enables FF lenses to be used with their intended framing.
You know, Yamaki-san is renowned for being very welcoming - you could probably make a trip of it.

so, wouldn't it have been better to use the same lens brand / make / model (Sigma ART 50mm) on both cameras? ... lenses dent to have a impact on color, rez., color falloff and sharpness and so on
Only if native. They could have used the 35mm 1.2 for example. Still, it's OK to use the best lenses available.

@@MichaelSchmidt_UrbnPxl But they're testing the AF too, which depends on the lens being native or not. So it would not be fair to have the Sigma Art 50mm on both, as it would not be native for the Sony, therefore losing AF performance.

Why do people prefer the sigma's colors? It's too red! In most of the senarios I'd go for the sony without hesitation. I guess preference is a huge factor

And cost is an important thing to consider!

The shocker:
In Hong Kong, you cannot give the Sigma FP cameras away, no joke! You can find them EVERYWHERE on second-hand camera shops and dealers.. everywhere! Sold like new for pennies on the dollar most of them in original box just a couple months old.. or weeks.
Some go for much less than half of original price in 100% new condition, all papers and new warranty included. I really wonder why..
Quite frankly, I knew since Sigma's announcement that it would be a flop.. it's simply too small and become ridiculously unbalanced by the time you add just about any lens to it (and let's not even talk about matching it with Cinema lenses which looks ridiculous). Plus realistically its truly full of quirks and compromises, misses on features that everyone wants (some of them very obvious and basic), uses a lens mount for which natively there are almost no lenses.. the list goes on.
Still, as a concept (call it really what it is) I always thought Sigma was bold and courageous and it's spec sheet includes surely some impressive features. I've actually been thinking to get one for myself just to try it out and see where all this unpopularity comes from.
please sell me one of those cheap pre-owned Sigma's if there are so many cheaply available...
