This is my third video trying to figure out WHYYYYY I should use 을/를 and not 이/가. Because if I said “저는 점심이 먹었어요” wouldn’t that also be okay? I’m going crazy

The key thing to note is that 을/를 marks the object of the verb, so in the sentence 'I ate lunch', lunch (점심) is the object of the verb 'ate' so it HAS TO be used with 을. So the correct sentence for 'I ate lunch' is.
저는 점심을 먹었어요 or 제가 점심을 먹었어요.
Similarly, to say 'I watched TV', you would use the object particle 을/를 with TV(티비) because TV is the object of the verb watched, meaning that 'I watched TV' in Korean is.
저는 티비를 봤어요 or 제가 티비를 봤어요.
There are certain structural differences depending on whether the verb is a passive verb and whether you're using descriptive verbs (adjectives), but that's the basic overview. Hope that helps to clarify things.

Ahhhhh. So the thing the receives the action gets 을/를. Okay that clears up so much and I really appreciate you taking the time out to tell me all that!

Just stumbled on your lectures and they are great. But I have a question and I still can’t get a hang of it.
Why use a object marking for the word Hiking? Isn’t hiking a verb cause you said eul is used with the noun Hike.
I get the concept of topic and subject particles a bit but subject particles still gets confuses me a lot.

Glad you like our videos :)
So the word 등산 is a noun, so we can say 등산을. The verb is 등산하다. However, many Korean verbs are made up of noun+하다, and these verbs can be used as a verb, or the noun can be used like the object of the verb 하다.
      1. to hike 등산하다 / 등산을 하다
      2. to cook 요리하다 / 요리를 하다
      3. to study 공부하다 / 공부를 하다
So we can use the verbs as they are, or separate the noun and 하다, and use the noun as the object of the verb. The meaning is exactly the same.
      Hope that helps!
