It's a scummy practice. They just used their most loyal fanboys as beta testers. Not that they didn't deserve it. They proved that they will pay for a turd as long as Elon is the seller. They signed up for certain price and specs, they watched all those specs be reduced, then they overpaid for upgrades they never got lol.
$39k with 500 mile range to $120k for 280 miles, no light bar, no autopilot, free powerwall (that requires Tesla be paid 6-20k to install) LMAO.
It's hard because there are clear scams, but also clearly people that deserved what they got.

Dropping the Foundation $20k is not a $20k price drop. A $20k price drop means the $79.9k price dropping $20k. Everyone knew Foundation would end.

If you buy the cyber truck today and add on all the features that the foundation series has, it will add up to nearly $20,000. You are paying less and you are getting less if you buy a NON foundation series cyber truck

@@ron8979 I got my Foundation VIN available email over a month ago and ignored it, I'd rather wait for the kinks to be ironed out. Even at $80k the dual motor is $30k more than I expected, TBH. I was actually thinking about upgrading my dual motor to the $80k version before the price increase (with the assumption the most expensive would have longer range), but now I just will take less for 80k I guess, and get a std dual motor.

If you buy a cyber truck that is NON foundation series and you want to add all those things that foundation series has, it would cost $20,000. In other words, the cyber trucks are not getting cheaper. You’re paying less and you’re getting less. The $20,000 drop is not a true $20,000 drop. All it means is the new trucks being made moving forward will not have full self driving, the white seats, charging capability in the bed, mobile connector, and mini more upgrades.

A RWD LFP version would be nice to get the price down and just get more units on the road. Success breeds success, when more folks get used to seeing them more people will be willing to put out for the higher margin AWD versions.
While I'm not a fan of the styling I have to take my hat off to Tesla for bringing this to production, it really is a feat of engineering once one understands what had to go into making a mass production stainless steel vehicle. Should help a lot of other automakers make the decision to bring their concept cars to production as halo cars.

Sure, the price is a factor. However the price may be excusable. The change in specs is the deal breaker for me. A 35% reduction in range on the tri-motor? That's a non-starter.

I've had an order on the Cybertruck since 2019, dual motor and was offered the Foundation Series a few weeks ago, which I turned down due to high price. I need dual motor due to where I live and the winter weather and rough roads. I would love LFP batteries for the dual motor as range is also an issue due to our remote location and our long winters (5-6 months). Thanks for covering this topic.

LFP should be charged to 100% once a month for calibration reasons, I guess that is considered regularly, even LFP degrades if charged to 100% daily. Charging to 90% should be just fine though.

I have a beast reservation, and I would rather see the range specs closer to the original +500 miles it was supposed to be. I am assuming there are weight issues with that at the moment. With the improvements we are seeing in battery tech I have some hope that by the time my reservation comes up (4-5 years by my guess) that it is closer to that. If towing range is 1/3 of total range it really does need to get to that +500 miles to be practical in that application. 600 miles would be better to get to that 3 hrs of highway driving before charging.

Thanks for the well done video! I am excited about eventually getting the dual motor Cybertruck I reserved in 2021. I expect it to be a while. An LFP battery is a possibility for the lowest model, but the rub is imported LFP batteries seem to invalidate any federal rebate for Teslas. Buyers of the RWD Cybertruck will be price sensitive to start with so a foreign LFP battery with no federal rebate is going to mostly drive these potential buyers away or drive them to the dual motor unit.
The battery "trick" for Tesla is to somehow transform its current CATL tooling agreement to build LFP batteries in the USA for Megapaks into a tooling agreement with CATL to build Shenxing Plus batteries in the USA for vehicles. If Tesla can do that, 4680 batteries are toast. 4680 cells have not really lived up to their original promise and are sort of "meh" batteries. They still don't have the power density matching 2170s and their packs are unrefurbishable compared to 2170 packs.

Yeah, that is mostly freeway driving at 75-80 mph, but that is real world driving. That number is worse in winter and better in summer, but that is the average. I’m betting the cybertruck is averaging more like 450-500 wh/mi with no cargo or towing load at freeway speeds, which is what the F150 gets. Let’s keep it real: a model 3 LR with 82 KWh gets 220 miles of range at freeway speeds. A cybertruck with that size battery is going to get 160 miles of freeway range with no cargo.
