I remember seeing those before. I always thought that the flames would be pre-printed on the body and you'd only have little stickers to do. Those huge stickers are going to be a pain to get right. Good luck Glenn, I'm sure you'll do a lovely job!
Tamiya should have done complete packages like this back in the golden era. It would have saved on the headache of deciding what radio gear to start with.

1st time I seen this kit I always loved the hornet. So seeing this kit must say it looks so cool! Can see why this would end up being a collectable kit if it was a limited series. That being said I would get the standard kit so I could run it! Great job

It's certainly not my cup of tea Glenn. I had no idea who or what Supreme are, so it was of no interest to me. Funnily enough I thought the Jun Watanabe Hornet was a travesty when it first came out. All these years later....I kinda like it.
I was lucky enough to have had all the hornet variations on one long shelf,including the tamtech as well as the miniatures at one point, then like we all do I gave up on the collection and sold it all . I bought the supreme as body and wheels and the tyre writing was in yellow 🤔 . Really hope tamiya do another colour variant of the hornet again including different colour plastics. Great to see one in your collection Glenn.
Supreme is primarily a street wear clothing company. They're big on limited editions of everything. When their new clothing line comes out for a season it sells out immediately. 90% of what is bought is immediately listed for double or triple retail price on eBay. The entire brand exists to create and foster hype among its fans (15 year old rich kids lol). The people that bought these Supreme Hornets bought them specifically to flip for a profit on eBay.
I wonder why, Tamiya did a vintage Hornet for the Supreme brand? The DT03, TT02b or something in their modern range, mite have been better for the Supreme buyer. Either way, it a cool collectible 😎
Soapy water for those decals! Looking forward to seeing it finished. As a shelf queen I really like it. Hate the chassis as a runner though, people always trying to add hop ups to it thinking it will help performance, you can't polish a turd :)

I think ALL Tamiya RC Kits are collectable. I am a Tamiya RC geek and constantly buying the kits that interest me. This kit does peak my interest for sure.
Glenn, that's definitely NOT a runner! I wouldn't have one, but that's just me. I'm operating on a genuine shoestring... There's no way a could fathom such A purchase - bearings or not. (And WHY can't Tamiya FINALLY include Bearings in their Kits!!??) 😠😠😠 I believe ANYONE would pay an extra $5 bucks, to not have to always buy Bearings separately. I've actually been subbed to you for over 5 years, on my old Channel. Always love your ramblings, builds and amazing stuff! 👍👍
Great video, I was a fan from when it was released I even thought price of $300 wasn’t bad considering the hornet is around $150 and this was packaged with radio gear. Truly just to collect would never run it but could never find one all sold out right away.
I think I’m more interested in Pedals than I am about a Tamiya kit that was released solely for “Hotboiz”. I’m not against Supreme at all but the hype surrounding them seems… strange and no one can really seem to define what it is they do and why these “collaborations” exist in the first place. Plus, most of the stuff they sell is bought up solely to resell like those weird Supreme Oreos that went for $100k on eBay. Yes, $100,000. For broken, stale crumbles bought from Supreme’s physical retail store. As a Tamiya fan, the only thing wrong with this release was that it was sold to people that are about following Supreme, not Tamiya and it’s genuinely sad.
I don't mind The Hornet Supreme, even though it's dumb that guys pay stupid money for em. I think the Super Avante TD4 is kind of offensive to guys who love the original Avante. Everyone gets to buy whatever they want with their own money, and that is that. Thanks for another cool video, Glenn.
Something that always puzzled me is that strange rear wheels suspension the Hornet has, along with the Grasshopper and its sequel. I'd love to hear your opinion on it, how it works (or doesn't work), and why Tamiya would create such a strange type of chassi. There's no real vehicle besides scooters that has the motor mounted to the rear axle like that, and scooters have only two wheels. Come to think of it, it all started with the Grasshopper.
I love the Hornet Supreme Edition I’ve had a couple of them I thought they were pretty cool, maybe not worth the price tag though , but I love the Watanabe hornet the Black edition grasshopper etc. when there freshly built they look superb. Oddly I’ve still got the radio get. Very cool and I could be tempted again in the future . Ace vid

I didn't know this car until your video. I like the design but I wouldn't pay this money for a decal set, black rims and a radio I don't need. So a rere might be cool.
Glenn you can buy the decal sheets on MCI so if you weren't bothered about the box a standard hornet and the decals would be exactly the same and much cheaper
Glenn, Thanks for this video. From the perspective of another 1980s kid in the US, north east CT, body art controversy is not Tamiya. Tamiya’s body box art has always been 💯% awesome, inspirational… & optional. Tamiya’s guide books celebrated personalized body art as did magazines in the 1980s without judgment.
300 units is very possible, most stores dont get many of the “lifestyle” type items, most supreme items sell for 2x and higher because of the limited quantities
I agree and I think it is more of a collector car than anything. Much like the Wantanabe "cow car" is now. When that came out I laughed and thought who in the world would want that thing but now I really want that thing!!! I do like the Supreme version but i could not justify spending that much money on one. Both of those kits are just ones that got away for me and I enjoy seeing them but would not spend the silly money people are trying to sell them for. There are just too many other cool vintage kits to get! I am looking forward to seeing it all done up and I am sure those flame decals are going to be nerve wracking to put on!
Hey Glenn is the grey edition clod buster available in your area? It is only available through horizon hobby here in the USA, Supposedly only available in the USA.
Buyers of supreme clothing are big collectors of anything supreme, so it makes sense they released it only for supreme fans, the idea that, its part of the supreme brand. Its a cool collab.
Let's try that name again Glenn... say it like what-un-are-bee and you are there. :-) The Hornet was my first RC kit when I was young and I was very disappointed. I thought it should have put Tamiya out of business it was so bad to drive and had such poor dynamics. Shows you what I knew. I then had the Fox which was a little bit better. I was then lucky enough to get a Kyosho Salute after doing paper round after paper round and I know we can't compare 4wd and 2wd but just with materials, engineering, and plastics it was leaps and bounds ahead. So much so I still have it.
Those didn't sell well here in the states with many of them being sold at or below the cost of a normal hornet. I picked one up for $150. I wanted the Metallic Hornet but this was sitting there for less money so I picked it up. I did find a metallic hornet later for less and bought that. I have seen these posted for sale for $700 and people were buying them. I still think the JUN Hornet was the most controversial but I still love it.
Take for instance the Supreme & S&M bikes collaboration, they built a Supreme version of their classic Dirtbike BMX, the bike was probably worth all of £1500 if that , but because it had the Supreme name on it it was £2500 , prices soon arose to 5k & higher , think the last 1 I saw for sale was $7500!!!

I had seen this Hornet before but to be honest I thought it was supposed to be a top of the range Hornet 😆 I had no idea it's from a store, always thought it was an all out Tamiya kit for the masses.. Tamiya could go into business with tampax and l would still want it lol, fantastic Glenn I love the Supreme version its as cool as hell and will look killer on display! I predict these being absolute mega gold in the future! Absolutely love this and very jealous lol can't wait to see this build and on display in your super hobby room! These are cool but will never be “mega gold” collector kits. Nostalgia is a key driving force for that and these don’t resonate to the masses that way.
@@Ts-zy4bw Its made by tamiya and different and very unique and of course rare and that is plenty to qualify! They don't have to be vintage anymore to be collectable plus a Hornet will always have nostalgia soaked through it 😉
I have it and it's awsome, easily as collectable as the Watanabe version and more so than the black chrome one but, hardly anyone at the moment has realised that which, is exactly the same as what happened with the Watanabe and soon the black chrome. I've said it a few times in post on the legends page. This version and the Watanabe are easily the rarest most collectable ones, there's still more vintage cars for sale than either of them.
I agree. The price is always brought up but if you bought a kit, radio and servo the price is close. So to me the pricing hasn’t hit collectible pricing yet like the Wantanabe.
Think I will buy a regular Hornet and buy the decals from MCI. I do like the flames. But the odd bit I'm not into those true flames on real cars. I'll stick to old Hot Rod style flames for that. I still have my vintage Hornet I got in early 90s, that has been resting on the shelf for years. Needs to be taken out after I got hold of some wheels and tires. And I still want to a neon one like you did a while ago. I love that one!
Can you say something about Marui RC Cars? If you haven‘t already of course. I had a Ninja as a Kid but of course it couldn‘t hold up with the better kyosho‘s and Tamyia cars. Maybe also because most kids also had higher specced tuning motors than me. I still liked the quality and the look of the car. If i once find one i might build it as a shelf queen, just because of the memories. I took the torsion bars and the front diff out of the car and run it as a rwd. I had better steering if i remember right. But back then i didn‘t really race it other than on parking lots, where we built jumps and crashed some parts and then had to wait for weeks/months for the spare parts. Then immediately crashed them again. I‘m more than 30 years older and i think about joining a race club (or go have a talk) in the area and build myself a real brace buggy 1/10 or 1/8. i don‘t know where to start when deciding what to buy… So i enjoy watching your channel a loz. It brings back the memories of when these cars all were real hot and new and something you‘ve never seen before. As i have once seen a kyosho inferno and early schumacher i thought they are from space. Greetings from Switzerland
Cheapest one I can find here in Japan is 39500 yen. Or 230 pounds. which is 2000 yen above RRP. Water damaged box by the looks. Tamiya Japan website has nothing on 92411 when searched. I think they sold them only in Supreme stores here. There was another Supreme version of something that was super popular here in Japan. Oh, Hot Wheels Supreme Transport truck. Super popular here. I think they'll only ever be popular with RC enthusiasts that want the "whole set" of something. Like every Hornet version ever made, or every Tamiya ever made.

Yeah the only two vintage rtr kits I can think of was, the Thundershot and Sonic Fighter. Both go for big money now if you can find one 😅

Very cool! I wish Tamiya would reissue some hard to find parts. I have 2 Falcons that are complete except for that darn speed control resistor.

In my opinion, the graphics make it much more interesting than the standard Hornet. The box art is classic Tamiya perfection!

Glenn, Thanks for this video. From the perspective of another 1980s kid in the US, north east CT, body art controversy is not Tamiya.
Tamiya’s body box art has always been 💯% awesome, inspirational… & optional.
Tamiya’s guide books celebrated personalized body art as did magazines in the 1980s without judgment.
300 units is very possible, most stores dont get many of the “lifestyle” type items, most supreme items sell for 2x and higher because of the limited quantities
I agree and I think it is more of a collector car than anything. Much like the Wantanabe "cow car" is now. When that came out I laughed and thought who in the world would want that thing but now I really want that thing!!! I do like the Supreme version but i could not justify spending that much money on one. Both of those kits are just ones that got away for me and I enjoy seeing them but would not spend the silly money people are trying to sell them for. There are just too many other cool vintage kits to get! I am looking forward to seeing it all done up and I am sure those flame decals are going to be nerve wracking to put on!

Buyers of supreme clothing are big collectors of anything supreme, so it makes sense they released it only for supreme fans, the idea that, its part of the supreme brand. Its a cool collab.

Let's try that name again Glenn... say it like what-un-are-bee and you are there. :-) The Hornet was my first RC kit when I was young and I was very disappointed. I thought it should have put Tamiya out of business it was so bad to drive and had such poor dynamics. Shows you what I knew. I then had the Fox which was a little bit better. I was then lucky enough to get a Kyosho Salute after doing paper round after paper round and I know we can't compare 4wd and 2wd but just with materials, engineering, and plastics it was leaps and bounds ahead. So much so I still have it.

Controversial would be a re-release of the Blazing Blazer or the Toyota Hilux 4x4. The ones that started the multi speed transmissions in RC!👍
Those didn't sell well here in the states with many of them being sold at or below the cost of a normal hornet. I picked one up for $150. I wanted the Metallic Hornet but this was sitting there for less money so I picked it up. I did find a metallic hornet later for less and bought that. I have seen these posted for sale for $700 and people were buying them.
I still think the JUN Hornet was the most controversial but I still love it.

Take for instance the Supreme & S&M bikes collaboration, they built a Supreme version of their classic Dirtbike BMX, the bike was probably worth all of £1500 if that , but because it had the Supreme name on it it was £2500 , prices soon arose to 5k & higher , think the last 1 I saw for sale was $7500!!!
I use the Expec GT with my Db01 and Avante…two more boxed sets for other kits ….works s treat 👍

In Canada the font used for supreme is the same as the font used by Petrol Canada on their pumps for supreme fuel.

That's a cool Hornet and have to say never heard of this version. Good luck with the decals as they look tricky. You are right for RC runners pointless over the stock kit.

In the 80s, they produced 1/24th Tamtech models and the complete kits, had a battery pack called a Tampack.
These are cool but will never be “mega gold” collector kits. Nostalgia is a key driving force for that and these don’t resonate to the masses that way.
@@Ts-zy4bw Its made by tamiya and different and very unique and of course rare and that is plenty to qualify! They don't have to be vintage anymore to be collectable plus a Hornet will always have nostalgia soaked through it 😉
I have it and it's awsome, easily as collectable as the Watanabe version and more so than the black chrome one but, hardly anyone at the moment has realised that which, is exactly the same as what happened with the Watanabe and soon the black chrome.
I've said it a few times in post on the legends page. This version and the Watanabe are easily the rarest most collectable ones, there's still more vintage cars for sale than either of them.

I agree. The price is always brought up but if you bought a kit, radio and servo the price is close. So to me the pricing hasn’t hit collectible pricing yet like the Wantanabe.
Think I will buy a regular Hornet and buy the decals from MCI. I do like the flames.
But the odd bit I'm not into those true flames on real cars. I'll stick to old Hot Rod style flames for that.
I still have my vintage Hornet I got in early 90s, that has been resting on the shelf for years.
Needs to be taken out after I got hold of some wheels and tires.
And I still want to a neon one like you did a while ago. I love that one!

Can you say something about Marui RC Cars?
If you haven‘t already of course. I had a Ninja as a Kid but of course it couldn‘t hold up with the better kyosho‘s and Tamyia cars. Maybe also because most kids also had higher specced tuning motors than me. I still liked the quality and the look of the car. If i once find one i might build it as a shelf queen, just because of the memories.
I took the torsion bars and the front diff out of the car and run it as a rwd. I had better steering if i remember right. But back then i didn‘t really race it other than on parking lots, where we built jumps and crashed some parts and then had to wait for weeks/months for the spare parts. Then immediately crashed them again. I‘m more than 30 years older and i think about joining a race club (or go have a talk) in the area and build myself a real brace buggy 1/10 or 1/8. i don‘t know where to start when deciding what to buy…
So i enjoy watching your channel a loz. It brings back the memories of when these cars all were real hot and new and something you‘ve never seen before. As i have once seen a kyosho inferno and early

Cheapest one I can find here in Japan is 39500 yen. Or 230 pounds. which is 2000 yen above RRP. Water damaged box by the looks.
Tamiya Japan website has nothing on 92411 when searched. I think they sold them only in Supreme stores here. There was another Supreme version of something that was super popular here in Japan. Oh, Hot Wheels Supreme Transport truck. Super popular here.
I think they'll only ever be popular with RC enthusiasts that want the "whole set" of something. Like every Hornet version ever made, or every Tamiya ever made.
