    I used to go to this park as a young kid, and I hold great memories! Kingdom Coaster was my second credit and also the first coaster I marathoned. Once when I rode Joust, my hat flew off and a man sitting behind me caught it. Little me couldn’t believe it!

    Visited for the first time in 2020. The operations were definitely slowest on Merlin’s Mayhem, and a snail’s pace on the Dutch Wonder House, which, due to Covid restrictions, were only taking people in one’s party (as I was there alone, I literally experienced a zen ride on a mad house lol).
    As always, great review. Especially love when you spotlight these smaller parks.

    For many years, I attended the 'World Boardgaming Championships' at the Lancaster Host; that convention moved to western PA in 2016. For all the years I went there (though only once with my family), I never popped in to DW, despite it being (literally) across the street.
    I suppose I should try it out at some point ... but as I could *walk* to Sesame Place in less time, I suspect I'll stick with the latter for the time being.

    I went to Dutch Wonderland about 50 years ago on our annual Sunday School Picnic. I remember the train tracks and the old model cars and roller coaster. I remember there was a woman who could talk to us at the picnic tables through a speaker. She could see exactly what we were eating but we could not see her. As a 13 year old, I thought that was so cool. Now, as a 66 year old, I'm thinking "HOW LAME" and "STRANGER/DANGER". But seriously, that was a wonderful part of my childhood and sometimes I check in just to see how Dutch Wonderland has changed. Happy Holidays everyone.

    I went here recently, as part of Coaster Con. If someone asked me to describe this park I'd say it's better versions of the coasters of Fun Spot Orlando, unique classic flat rides like the Lusse scooters and flying trapeeze, the best set of antique cars, a cool boat ride that lets you see real wildlife (my group spotted 2 real turtles while riding the gondola ride), and totally worth it. Even though the $27 I paid to get in seemed a little much that price was definately justified by the park being more than just their coasters. I can't really comment on food but I will say there was a blackberry tree in the park which they do take care of and you can pick berries from. That speaks to the unique charm of this park that other parks don't have. The fact that they've gotten old Hersheypark rides explains a lot, being that I didn't think it was appropriate to call it "a childrens park" given their ride selection.

      @@CanobieCoaster To be fair, when I was at Dutch Wonderland I was there with nearly 700 ACErs, getting trains full of adults on every ride (ie heavier trains=faster. I did get multiple pops of legitimate buzbar airtime). When I was at Fun Spot Orlando it was just myself with a flight home in the afternoon and a few local kids who went to enjoy Fun Spot for the day while the tourists went to Universal. Weight of train may have had something to do with it for me.

    $55 is expensive for a kid's park, I think. A family of four would cost at least $250 for a day for tickets, parking, and food. In fact, the whole pay-for-parking thing at parks is a hidden scam, given that you can't get there any other way. As is the food: the only reason you can't bring food into most parks is so that the parks can increase their revenues with mostly overpriced food.

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  Před 3 lety +1

      It does rack up for sure at a lot of parks.

    • @quintocreations5091
      @quintocreations5091 Před 3 lety +1

      George, that's not a scam. It's called the price you pay for entertainment. It isn't theme parks. It's zoos, museums, sports venues, concerts, plays, airlines, sightseeing tours, and on and on and on........ it's really basic supply and demand. More people disagree with you. Otherwise they wouldn't buy food or simply visit the parks and the parks would be forced to lower prices.

    • @georgeoliver4704
      @georgeoliver4704 Před 3 lety +3

      @@quintocreations5091 Perhaps “scam” was too strong a word. You’re right that a business sets its price and you’re free to buy or not. Since amusement parks are not necessities, like food, if you can’t afford them and never go, then your life is not worse off.
      I’ll remind you, however, that before the Disney “theme park” model, amusement parks were free and open to anyone, and the cost was based on a per-ride, per-food, per-entertainment basis. That meant a family could enjoy their time together affordably, including the pregnant mother who couldn’t ride anything, the teenager who broke his leg and was on crutches, the kid who was too scared to ride anything, the grandmother who just wanted to watch her grandkids ride, the diabetic who needed to bring her own food, etc.
      I appreciate that you don’t care about such family accommodations, but that’s your age and lack of historical perspective. Disney discovered that he could make a lot of money with a different model and it was very successful. That model helped the demise of small amusement parks.
      Luckily, there are still free and open parks, like Knoebel’s, who don’t charge an entry fee, don’t charge for parking and allow you to bring food in. They are very successful as well, so their “cost of entertainment” is a different philosophy and they weren’t “forced to lower their costs” because that’s the way they’ve always done it. Why? Because it’s a family-owned park, and they care about families and being accessible. If you go to Knoebel’s you’ll see a completely different vibe there, one that I personally prefer. But then, I’m not 20-something.
      Corporate parks don’t have to care about any of this; they care about making as much money as they can for their shareholders. I get that folks like you don’t care how much they pay for entertainment. I and others, unfortunately, don’t have that privilege.

      @@georgeoliver4704 I was scared of all rides as a teenager, so when my home park of Bells ran their special $1 admission, I loved it. I could hang out with my friends at a park for just one dollar. There's something to be said about the points you brought up, and not something I've realized before. I appreciate that insight. It's nice to still have parks like Knoebels that still operate that way.

    I've said this a million times I know, but man with all this douchey coaster and park channels these days clogging up CZcams, it makes this video even better. Once again, I love your reviews of just plain reporting. Opinions are good every one in a while. But you seem to not let that get in the way of just reporring facts. While we have these clowns now talking about: " Park ABC needs to do this because this is why thus coaster didn't succeed". Or videos basically saying how a billion dollar company is "screwing" up a park. Which cracks ne up how there's all these execs making hundreds of thousands of dollars, yet some little rug-monkey on CZcams can give a run down on what they need to be successful. Or what coaster Mfgs are doing wrong. But for some reason these manufacturers and park owners aren't beating down their CZcams door to hire them and pay them the big bucks just proves, they don't know what they're talking about because they know about 2% of what's needed to know.
    But you're doing a great job just doing a channel showing parks and just plain fun. Keep it up. Much respect

    Dutch Wonderland, you need to do better. Educate your employees on neurodiversity and how to provide customer service.
    Today, your employee a 4 year old autistic, non verbal child off of the gondola ride for being “unruly”. He was clapping and crying, as that’s how he communicates.
    When the parents said, he’s fine. She slapped the boat, clapped in his face and screamed repeatedly, are you ok? When the parents said, he’s autistic and non verbal. She rolled her eyes and said, get off the boat. He’s not calm.
    When we addressed the employee, her response was, I’ll my supervisor. While he was apologetic, he did nothing to redirect the employee.
    She embarrassed the family and humiliated them for having a disabled child.
    Your business is a “family attraction” yet discriminates. The entire situation is disgusting.
