Exactly, most people will replace this exhaust eventually this is just a great way to live with it in the meantime. In reality it sounds good enough this way that if you want a good sounding yet quiet bike you might as well save your money, just do this and call it a day.

Lucas Kich eh... I guess get some steel plugs temporarily. My warranty is already out. I would've gotten the extended, but I wanted to put mods on anyway so it wasn't worth it.
I don't have this bike but I enjoy modifications like this... If you run a long bit or hole saw down the exhaust pipe and drill holes or one large one in that internal elbow (you showed) to bypass baffling. At least that way you have all exhaust gasses exiting properly through the pipe. I bet it would sound better too... Just a thought!
+ACH-2 I've contemplated doing that except for two reasons, I think that would reduce too much back pressure on the engine before I am ready to get an ECU flash and for it being a stock exhaust I like the way it sounds because I appreciate just how quiet it is while still sounding decent.
TheMotorcycleVlogs / TMV 6x3/8 holes in addition to the OEM outlet allows a shitload of exhaust gas to bypass the baffling. It would lean it out for sure.
+ACH-2 I don't know about that, without actually having pulled one of these apart I can't say how the exhaust gases are routed which is the best flow metric.
Very cool! Serious question for someone new to this. Will this damage the bike? Will it improve the bike?...Or is it a net neutral? Many thanks in advance!!!
Nice work. I have an identical bike. Was looking up exhausts and realized I just really liked how the stock shroud fits with the rest of the bike. Going to have to do this myself, makes the sound fit the bikes appearance much better. How did you avoid getting tiny pieces of the muffler from getting trapped inside when drilling the holes?
Honestly there probably is a few shavings in there, if they haven’t blown out by now, that’s not an issue however since there are no moving parts to get caught in. You could put a strong magnet next to the hole you are drilling and it should grab most of the shavings if you are worried about it.
So at highway speeds will I be able to hear my exhaust better over wind noise? The Fz07 is so quiet I sometimes have to look down at the tach because I can't even hear what rpm I'm running at
You’ll probably hear it a little better, it doesn’t make it all that louder as does make it make have more bass. I’d say it comes down to your helmet more than anything, my helmet makes a lot wind noise at freeway speeds but I can still hear the motor at times. I would say go check out some of my road trip videos but those aren’t a good representation as I was using and older GoPro with just the onboard mic most of the time so even more wind noise than in my helmet.

Honestly I really don’t know, I would look for any videos where someone has done something like this to one of those bikes. But just remember, unless you can weld, it can’t be undone.
It would be nice to check engine parameters before and after this procedure. You know that it's tuned to work with a certain back pressure, which is now changed.
"back pressure" (which is a bit of a myth, but I know what you meant) will not be affected, the cat is still in place and is still the biggest restriction in the exhaust, the box that has been drilled is only a sound muffler to quieten the bike.

Interesting video. I'm curious about the performance. Any difference? there is a concern about not having enough back pressure in the exhaust. That can damage the valves. Notice any popping on deceleration?
+David Yawn Basically still works like stock just a little louder. With as much stuff is in that exhaust there is still going to be a good amount of back pressure. No popping.
100 miles and your already drilling holes in it lol. Jeeze man. There was a guy who cut the “can” in half and gutted the muffler “walls” and drilled holes in there. Welded it back up and it looked stock but the van was pretty drilled through. Pretty cool I thought.
TheMotorcycleVlogs / TMV Lol I cant find it for the life of me lol. But he basically cut out the back pretty much in half. From there he cut larger holes and even removed what looked to be disrupting the flow of exhaust. Then put that plate back on the exhaust via welding it. spare stock exhaust can be found for 100-150 max...buy a stock one and drill the fk out of it...if anything happens put the stock back on and you are good to go...100-150 is still difference from buying full aftermarket at 500
I think it would be beneficial to tune the ECU even without doing anything to the exhaust but if you’re going to spend the money on a tuner I would spend the money on getting an aftermarket exhaust anyway.
@@TMVGarage I agree the CP2 engine runs lean. With a aftermarket exhaust (except for the akrapovic titanium) I would always take a tune with it. Hard decision. The benefit of the stock exhaust is I dare to start it in my backyard at 0730 in the morning. Maybe I’ll just stick with this one until I can afford the titanium Akra. Thanks for your response!
It probably will affect the warranty and I’m pretty sure putting on an aftermarket exhaust will too. If that is something you are concerned with it would probably be a good idea to check with the dealership first or wait until the warranty is up.
Hello, ask if it does not interrupt the engine at maximum speed, does it do it as a skip in max, does not drive the engine speed, i want to modify yamaha tracer 700 exhaust similarly drilled holes 6 mm? what the diameter of the drill is ok, the end pipe is shortened by 30 mm so far and I still do the holes, I will see what diameter of the drill you recommend, thanks
@@TMVGarageI thought that if the exhaust repair did not interfere with the engine at high speed, it could sometimes cause a back pressure problem, in theory it should be okay. A friend alike adjusted the exhaust gases and started firing and did not maintain the engine's maximum engine speed, engine running problems a little worse
Generally the bit will pull the shavings out for the most part, but whatever falls in would likely be blown out eventually. Even if it doesn't, it won't possibly end up in your engine so no worries.
You know what? I think that’s the best question anyone has asked me since I put this video up. No I haven’t regretted it for a second. For a simple easy to do modification to equipment that’s already on the bike it has improved my riding experience a lot. It’s not much louder than the unmoded exhaust, but it sounds way better in my opinion. The caveat is that being an experienced metal fabricator I could always easily reverse it if I wanted to.
@@TMVGarage Thanks for your feedback, I think I shall be doing this to my bike however, wanted confirmation that i would still appreciate it down the line.
Honestly yes, any Harley, Ducati or especially the Nuda 900r sound awesome. But for the money it costs to get a MT-07 to sound as good as it does you won’t even get close to any of those other bikes.
I have this bike too! Has anyone taken 2" off the tip only? I can't see how taking a small piece off there would affect the sound in any way, but I would much rather only do that than 6 holes...
I would say it will probably change the sound a little as ultimately you are affecting the amount of steel the sound waves are reverberating off of. It might not affect the overall tone but may change the pitch a little?
@@DL-sy5fv Ya but it's not that I don't want to get a better exhaust it's just that i've had other priorities for the money and time. Because it's not just the cost and install of the exhaust it's the cost and time due to tuning it with the new exhaust too.
@@TMVGarage that makes a lot of sense. I've read few hundred of pages on forums about ECU remap and i am still confused. I went further and visited 2 independent dealerships and 2 guys with over 20 years in this field told me that i DONT HAVE to remap the ECU if an aft exhaust system is installed.
@@TMVGaragejust did this to my Ryker sport 900. I have an intake and have gotten inpatient waiting on my exhaust. It def is deeper and a lil bit louder. I got a phot of the inside to see that it was safe to do(still another wall between cat and holes)
@@TMVGarage You can but it must come with certified papers that have the emission stats and Db stats. Like Akrapovic and SC project etc... (They also must have the catalytic converter in them to have that papers for registrating your bike with that paticular exhaust).
@@TMVGarage Otherwise you must wrench and get the aftermarket off and put the OEM every year when you go to the "technical examination of vehicles" to prolong your registration and the ability to ride on the road with a license plate.

Hey, just wondering how the bike has been performing after the mod ? Do you still suggest this mod ? I’m considering doing it as well, thanks in advance. Safe riding
Not that noticed, granted I didn’t ride it for very long before I did this but after nearly 10,000 miles on the bike with this mod I haven’t noticed any ill effects and it gets great gas mileage.
The factory exhaust is designed to create a sort of suction effect that eliminates back-pressure. By drilling holes in it, you've basically removed that suction effect and now the actual exhaust fumes are being sucked back into the combustion chamber. But probably not enough to lose any power. I just want people to be aware.
I also wondered. But I'm guessing the shavings will be long gone after a few miles at high speed/high revs. I was also concerned about any water that could come in thru the added holes while riding under rain conditions. Also guessing with the hot temperature would help evaporate any humidity in the pipe. My XSR7 is 6 months old now. I may do that mod once the one year guarantee is passed. Thanks for sharing this very cost friendly tip cuz it's truly a crime from Yamaha to release such a great bike/enigne with such poor sounding stock pipe.
@@Northern_Wayrez I didn't do it yet. But I truly should. Wondering if the ECU needs adjustment or not tho as the holes act as chamber-bypass . I'd guess the O2 reading might be altered...

It probably will affect the warranty and I’m pretty sure putting on an aftermarket exhaust will too. If that is something you are concerned with it would probably be a good idea to check with the dealership first or wait until the warranty is up.
Cool
Thanks
Hello, ask if it does not interrupt the engine at maximum speed, does it do it as a skip in max, does not drive the engine speed, i want to modify yamaha tracer 700 exhaust similarly drilled holes 6 mm? what the diameter of the drill is ok, the end pipe is shortened by 30 mm so far and I still do the holes, I will see what diameter of the drill you recommend, thanks
I used a 9.5 mm drill bit
@@TMVGarageok, a 9.5mm drill that makes the engine at its highest speed, does not interfere with the speed of the engine at high speeds?
I’m not sure exactly what you are saying but if you’re asking if doing this hurts the performance then the answer is no.
All I can tell you is that I have not had any issues at all.
Wouldn't you get some flakes of metal falling into the exhaust when you drill the holes??
Generally the bit will pull the shavings out for the most part, but whatever falls in would likely be blown out eventually. Even if it doesn't, it won't possibly end up in your engine so no worries.
Bro i have a 2020 mt7 i dont want to spend 700 and 200 more for instalation for the sound do u still have the bike. Did u have some problem with it
I still have the bike and still have the same modded exhaust with no problems after 10,000 miles on it.
@@TMVGarage bro u got fans and they want a new video. Do it!
Really?! It won’t be on the FZ07 I won’t have access to it for two years
Any update on the mod? Any loss of power?
Over 2500 miles on the bike now, no ill effects, sounds good without being too loud.
Awesome, thanks!
Why there are water in exhaust ?
You get water in every exhaust from condensation, especially when the air is cool and damp.
after doing this four years ago, do you regret doing it? how loud is it?
You know what? I think that’s the best question anyone has asked me since I put this video up. No I haven’t regretted it for a second. For a simple easy to do modification to equipment that’s already on the bike it has improved my riding experience a lot. It’s not much louder than the unmoded exhaust, but it sounds way better in my opinion. The caveat is that being an experienced metal fabricator I could always easily reverse it if I wanted to.
@@TMVGarage Thanks for your feedback, I think I shall be doing this to my bike however, wanted confirmation that i would still appreciate it down the line.
Did you ever get it tuned? Did your mpg change any?
No and no
Can I do this on the 2018 Honda CB 500x ? I'll really appreciate an answer 🙏
Seriously, does any other bike sound as good as the MT-07, whether with an aftermarket exhaust or a cheap exhaust hack?
Honestly yes, any Harley, Ducati or especially the Nuda 900r sound awesome. But for the money it costs to get a MT-07 to sound as good as it does you won’t even get close to any of those other bikes.
@@TMVGarage Good point...
VERY GOOD, BRASIL OK.
Thanks

Ficou bom ? Conta como foi,por favor
cut those clamps off paint it black and it might not end up to bad
I have this bike too! Has anyone taken 2" off the tip only? I can't see how taking a small piece off there would affect the sound in any way, but I would much rather only do that than 6 holes...
I would say it will probably change the sound a little as ultimately you are affecting the amount of steel the sound waves are reverberating off of. It might not affect the overall tone but may change the pitch a little?
Any update after 4 years ? Problems/Performance? Sound?
No noticeable difference.
@@TMVGarage did u keep it and never spent $700 + on a Yoshi/Akra?
@@DL-sy5fv Ya but it's not that I don't want to get a better exhaust it's just that i've had other priorities for the money and time. Because it's not just the cost and install of the exhaust it's the cost and time due to tuning it with the new exhaust too.
@@TMVGarage that makes a lot of sense. I've read few hundred of pages on forums about ECU remap and i am still confused. I went further and visited 2 independent dealerships and 2 guys with over 20 years in this field told me that i DONT HAVE to remap the ECU if an aft exhaust system is installed.
@@DL-sy5fv Nice! Good input, thank you.
No issues weird water getting in or trapped?
Not that I’ve noticed and I’ve ridden hundreds of miles in rain and even snow.
@@TMVGaragejust did this to my Ryker sport 900. I have an intake and have gotten inpatient waiting on my exhaust. It def is deeper and a lil bit louder. I got a phot of the inside to see that it was safe to do(still another wall between cat and holes)
Can you do some drive by's
I do have a video of drive by and drive off on my channel.
Hello. Your video is awesome. Can you do these modifications on a MT-07 TRACER 2017 exhaust? Best regards.
I think you could do this to almost any exhaust like this one. I don't know much about the Tracer, we don't have them in the U.S.
The tracer have the same exhaust
I can't do this cause in Croatia they test the Db of the exaust so...
So does that mean that you can’t do aftermarket exhaust at all?
@@TMVGarage You can but it must come with certified papers that have the emission stats and Db stats. Like Akrapovic and SC project etc... (They also must have the catalytic converter in them to have that papers for registrating your bike with that paticular exhaust).
@@TMVGarage Otherwise you must wrench and get the aftermarket off and put the OEM every year when you go to the "technical examination of vehicles" to prolong your registration and the ability to ride on the road with a license plate.
Oh man that’s crazy
@@TMVGarage I know I almost start drilling when my father told me to study the laws. Now I'm looking to buy the black widow and use the OEM just for the examination.
only issue is it still looks shit
Původní úpravu jsem tedy neudělal, původní výfuk byl uložen a nahrazen plnou homologací EU Mivv titan sound super .. \ t
Why?
Ciao complimenti per il vidio volevo sapere si perde potenza
So I could do this with the R7 too👀👀🤙
I don’t know but if you do, by all means report back, I’m sure any others with the same bike would like to hear how it went.
@@TMVGarage have you had an regrets doing this? No cods being thrown?
No regrets whatsoever. What do you mean “cods”?
@@TMVGarage codes my bad lol no engine light or anything of that sort?
Oh no no no nothing like that runs just like the day I got her.
Hey, just wondering how the bike has been performing after the mod ? Do you still suggest this mod ? I’m considering doing it as well, thanks in advance. Safe riding
It works great and sounds great
@@TMVGarage How about the fuel consumption, just curious, will this affect it?
Not that noticed, granted I didn’t ride it for very long before I did this but after nearly 10,000 miles on the bike with this mod I haven’t noticed any ill effects and it gets great gas mileage.
The factory exhaust is designed to create a sort of suction effect that eliminates back-pressure. By drilling holes in it, you've basically removed that suction effect and now the actual exhaust fumes are being sucked back into the combustion chamber. But probably not enough to lose any power. I just want people to be aware.
How did you cut the holes without getting shavings in the exhaust?
The shavings come out once you start it.
It doesn’t matter if I get shavings in the exhaust.
@@Pentoute45 hey bro did u make this mod ? Can i get your feed-back please ?
@@Northern_Wayrez I didn't do it yet. But I truly should.
Wondering if the ECU needs adjustment or not tho as the holes act as chamber-bypass . I'd guess the O2 reading might be altered...
I'm getting a Delkevic cos no matter how you improve the sound of the stock pipe, that big box under the bike still looks shit. Cool though if you haven't got new exhaust money.
+Kevin Taylor Yep, nice!
Perhaps lessen the fugliness of the Cat by doing a Paint it, Black using hi temp header paint?
Good idea
So MPG must go down bad?
Nope
I did this mod and honestly just sounds like a big farty exhaust leak.
So you are basically making exhuast leaks on purpose?... It is just better to get an exhaust, or a slip on at least...
+DA2THFA1RY Exactly.
Is it just better? What if there is no money?
Did it, sound good under 5000 rpm. Stills wheelie on gaz only but past 160 km/h the engine die. The bike have a hard time to reach 200km/h now
8:51 12:10
you didn't have to cut your pipe LoL
I know, I wanted to it changed the sound more.
Or you could just buy a new exhaust
