Most understated part of this... He gets rid of the guy with the series 7 license because he would expose the operation in 5 minutes
True. Or at least he would be like, what are you doing? You can’t do this. Anyone already with experience would be like, what’s going on here? You can’t do this.
@@davidmulhern5877 Would you really want to go against Affleck in this scene lool, he's so intimidating, which is done so well because Affleck knows he needs to put up this persona from the get-go, so that they know that this guy ain't messin loool
and @Winston 100% loool i clocked on my second watch why Affleck was so quick to dismiss that series 7 dude xD
ahh. didn’t know that thx

@@davidmulhern5877 Yeah that’s my exact point…. If you have a series 7 license already… You’ll spend 1 hour tops and see all the violations they do… remember this isn’t a “real” regulated company… they are doing a lot of cons so he would probably report them…
What they do is train you, make you loyal to the company then they will tell you reasons why they do their dodgy stuff…
Just another day at Wayne Enterprises.
+Paul Morris Batman's a smug jackass yuppie scum? Nope. And the Bruce Wayne persona is a playboy and charitable philanthropist. Lucius Fox takes care of much of the Wayne Enterprises business.

"You want vacation time, go teach third grade public school." Is a reference to his mother who was a 3rd grade school teacher at Tobin in Cambridge, MA. I had her as my homeroom teacher, she was one of the nicest teacher we had.

I guess Will Hunting being a janitor in MIT was a reference to Ben’s dad being a janitor at Harvard
@Francis Serra yes i know the script are not written by him. However, actors do have some say in the script depending on how close they are with the director/producer. Sometimes they ask permission to alter the lines for latent references or just being witty. The line he said does not impact the main story, just adds to his characteristic. Don't pretend like actors NEVER get any say during a film, and they just follow orders like a bot.

@@FSUjonnyD do chop shops still exist or whatever they're called
@@phatlewt2932 XD the movie is called "Boiler room" lmao a "chop shop" is for stolen vehicles XD! Yeah they do, I worked in one kinda... You see a boiler room (a high pressure or just unethical telephonic sales team) in the context of securities sales can span on legitimacy. It can be a full scam where they sell you nothing from India, lie and just steal your money by draining your bank account. Or fully legit, where you are ethically but immorally talked into registered and fully disclosed investments like loaded mutual funds (I did this, not really screwing people but twisting arms to get sales). Or somewhere in between.
This movie revolves around the belfort case where they were engaging in market manipulation. Basically I call you tell you this stock is a great buy (only partially illegal to do so, also stock promoter firms are legal, this is the more preferred rout to do this today, not a boiler room) , I already own the stock, I sell it to you for more then I bought it for. I keep doing it, the price keeps climbing, when i've sold it all, I walk and the price tanks. People who bought high now own worthless trash they can sell for a huge loss. Hence the "pump n dump".
We saw this basically just happen with GameStop. The stock was being pumped on reddit, not via a boiler room, people bought, stopped out a few hedge funds (idiot political commentators that hardly have a HS Diploma let alone formal ed in finance loved this) then dumped. Anyone who bought has lost up to 85% of what they spent that didn't bail out before the dump. It doesn't take a Masters of science in quantitative finance to understand the tactics.

The real reason for getting rid of the series seven exam guy is not that they want to mold their own brokers, they want fresh naive brokers who won’t know or call out the illegal shit they do
i never got that. They all have to get their Series 7 anyway he's just ahead of the curve. They could have still coached n molded him anyway they wanted hed be able to start sooner
@@grinchoi1even if they let him stay hoping or even knowing he wouldn't expose them they would still have to either pay him for the 40 initial clients that they keep for themselves in the movie or half of it or they wouldnt get 40 out of him in most real legal agency's you only have to prove yourself with 10-20(depending on the company)and that's if you dont have your s7 already so it's actually plenty of reasons to get rid of that guy

Ummmmmm Boiler is not underrated? Hello McFly?!
Many people dislike Ben Affleck's acting, but I think he's cool. He's just different and has different unique style. This scene is cool and seems very organic like he was actually living through it.
Ben Affleck can nail any role no one can talk like him can listen to him talk for hours about anything
He's a great batman too. Ppl hate what they don't understand
I actually liked him in Good Will Hunting as well as Dazed and Confused.
He’s a great actor from business to action movies
I gotta admit, at first I thought he was just another interchangeable pretty-boy actor. But he's got this . . . menacing undercurrent going on
I first noticed this in "Dogma", when he slams Matt Damon against the wall and growls "We're going HOME, Loki!" OMG, I felt honestly frightened at that moment. He can unleash this volcanic, visceral RAGE, with no warning. It's amazing, actually
"We expect everyone here to treat their coworkers with a certain level of respect"
Later in the movie: team leaders saying "you couldn't close a fucking windows you moron!" and "you're in my team don't you forget it bitch" with impunity
Crooks don't practice what they preach, but they're willing to make up the rules as they go.
He said those things because he's a senior broker and because it was personal, because Seth was dating his ex girlfriend. Obviously they're not going to fire a senior broker for being impolite.
perception management
@@cuteshoesandbags8094 This should have been the movie's tagline.
I think the point is he wanted to take that as an opportunity to give these newbies the impression that the place was a fraternity of sorts.
I used to have a role in compliance, and our "heavy hitters" would blow us off as they embraced this character's kind of attitude; they worshipped this movie. The regulatory environment changed and two of them ended up in court .... the company disavowed them, despite egging their exploits on behind closed doors. If you ever find yourself in this situation, be smart. Everyone loves a winner but they aren't going to post your bail.
@IHaveSwatches ...somebody's watched the big short.
@Kai Nope, they'll be the ones heaping charges on you.

@@johnwalter5875 but both of those guys that left the room, already had a job. They worked there. The whole thing was thespian theater.
My circle of friends were heavily involved in an MLM pyramid scheme many years ago. They were desperately trying to get me on board, and I refused to take part in the scam, which they insisted it wasn't. I was actually extremely insulted when they did, as they were clearly looking at me as the next sucker.
One night, we watched this movie at their "office." They absolutely loved it, trying to pick tactics from it. They failed to understand the FBI raid at the end, and I tried telling them, "Told ya this stuff is a scam." The ego is a funny thing, deciding when it wants you to understand, and when it needs you to remain blind to how you're ruining people's lives.
Omg…. You obviously don’t know WTF you are talking about. U sound like you’re putting down Network marketing. Probably because you have a shite personality, which comes through amazingly well in your comment. You probably could never do networking because it would require real leadership skills with a volunteer army of men & women. You have to actually care about people. You obviously have know clue. Sure there are some bad companies with bad leadership practices which is with any company. I have plenty of successful friends who work in the industry. Study to know what the industry is & quit talking out of the side of your ass… at least your friends had the guts to attempt to develop themselves and try to change and grow into people that other people would be willing to follow.

Wow, that brought back memories! That is pretty damm close to reality. When I entered the training program of the firm that hired me, 19 started the program. One quit after the first day. I was the only survivor, who actually gained my Series 7, 3, and 65. It's irrelevant that the 'firm' here was illegal, a "Boiler room" concern. The manner in which business is conducted is very similar. The Wolf Of Wall Street is an extreme example, but still, plausible. I managed to be quite successful, before I decided I would no longer feed the greed. It is a business where you have to sell your soul to the devil, if you want to do it. I am too moral. The BMW was nice, as were the crazy perks. But, I have my German luxury sedan without having to be somebody I'm not.
arklat . Who cares. I work a regular, well paying, low pressure corporate job and still have two new German performance cars
You mean you have to sell your soul to trade successfully? Or to be a successful broker?
35 people gave a shit and actually believed this crap in 7 years. Not bad.
I used to be a broker as well. I always thought this movie and Wolf of Wall Street were the most spot on. Got PTSD from WOWS the first time I saw it {No one died at our Christmas parties!). It is an amoral business even if done by the most moral person. "Greed is good, and information is the currency. How you get that information is none of our business. Just don't get caught." I remember my mentor telling me this as a junior broker. Chilling as I type this now. I lasted only 6 months. 100% commissions; made $1 for a month of work my first month. Made $5000 a day thereafter. Made enough to pay for Grad School and quit.

I was actually once in an interview for a trading firm and it was somewhat similar to this. There were no curse words thrown and the manager was well mannered ( after all it was real life not a Hollywood movie). We were about 20 young people in the conference room where they explained about what the job was like and did some q&a with us, and they made sure we understood you have to work your ass off, and that you are supposed to become a millionaire within a few years.
Out of about 20 people in the room they only picked 3. I didn’t go through but I also knew it wasn’t for me.
I have a spoiler for you. Only one of them became a millionaire (in the best case). They also have no life but have mental issues instead.

I actually happen to like this scene and find Affleck to be quite good in it. Overall an iconic movie.
I think the monologue at the beginning of the film was much better, "I just wanted IN."
Affleck is always good....not great but he knows his shit! This film is the start as The Batman in my opinion.
Ben isn't always good, but I would say, to be fair to him, he has been great. The Town (2010) was a great movie. He did a great job directing and acting in that Film. Often he is not good, often he is in bad movies and gives bad performances. I'd rather that than an actor that is always mediocre. He has potential to be remembered as a great talent, so long as he doesn't get to heavily involved with politics. I have no issue with celebrities sharing their political beliefs, especially if they passionate about them. But they need to understand the possible implications on their popularity, and weigh that with the good they will do for their cause. This was a long way of saying I agree with you.
BigHorseFilm Affleck is good he had success and not so much much .....but he came back and now he's great!

Love this movie and especially this scene!
Now this is a motivation
"I'm not here to waste your time"...except the guy who I just kicked out of the office by not telling him to not bother showing up if he'd already passed his 7.
I noticed that too... like they couldn't have just told him that on the phone? But sure let's have the guy drive out to Long Island and then instantly kick him out for something that was probably already on his resume lol
He was saying he wasn't going to waste the time of the remaining candidates, not the two he previously ejected from the meeting.
Technically, he was saving that guys time by kicking him out early because the firm “doesn’t hire brokers, they train new ones.”
"that's it skippy, pack your shit!"
Best line hands down

I thought Affleck was great here. In fact, he is pretty good whenever he ISN'T trying to carry a film as the lead actor. He's not good enough to be the main attraction of a film, but he's much better at smaller supporting roles.
There's no shame in that, some of the best careers in Hollywood are guys who always play smaller characters in movies. He's much better in small doses.

I love the thesis of this movie: that committing securities fraud is the upper middle class white boys version of selling crack.
“Upper middle class”? Tf? Having 400.000 dollars in the bank is upper middle class. Having the privelage to blow that shit on a yellow rari is rich. And the mansion, in New York? Yea the taxes alone should blow your grandmas retirement money. It’s always the youtube comment section that has something to say.
You would do it too lol
...or just selling crack
It doesn't have to be criminal activity... you could legally make a killing selling junk bonds, penny shares, sub-prime mortgage bundles or insurance policies that never pay out. There is no morality in capitalism. You have a proposition and you just create a dream and a pitch that you hope will sway those people that still believe there are better ways to make money than to work for it. That's how we ended up where we are, with tax-payers bailing out the banks when these "solid AAA Rated" derivatives turned out to be unicorn tears
