Will Love in Spring is absolutely one of the best dramas I have ever watched! The writing, cinematography and OST is first rate. The story catches you and the way they depict death, dying and grief is just wonderful. So many shows shy away from this difficult subject, but this cdrama does such a wonderful job in showing the grief, love and resilient spirit of the characters. The chemistry of the leads is off the charts!!!! I love how even secondary characters are fleshed out and add so much to the drama. Don’t miss it!

Will love in spring, the first 8 minutes was …. eh, but once the main leads came together on screen 🔥 I found myself captivated and humoured by the FL flirtatious, extrovert, charming attitude and ML’s cold demeanor. Ep 7 had me BAWLING. No dramas are without its flaws but I enjoyed it so much, I don’t even care what flaws it has. I was pleasantly surprised by this 21 ep drama. I enjoyed the soundtrack quite also.
I am enjoying Blossom in Adversity, City in a City & War of Faith. Just completed an 8 episode Taiwanese drama called Imperfect Us. That was a really good one, I believe.

There's this ONE scène in a war movie that lasts perhaps 30min in a 1h40 movie where the team must past unnoticed, camouflaged themselves as locals, which is a common practice in real life & even in westerns movies.
The movie is not even in international cinemas yet it's mostly westerns netizens who's shocked screaming scandal & wanting to roast one of the actors. Not the producers, not the director, not the scriptwriters, not even the entire crew, just the second male role...🤔
Perhaps it's none others then haters doing what they're best at doing , spending hate ,rumors , demanding & expecting that his international brands fire him...

Will Love In Spring is so good so the high Douban rating is deserved, some say it should be 9 (but has Douban awarded that high ratings before?). I started late on watching it so I am still very much enjoying it. While trying to catch up with self inflicted (lol) backlog of lovely romances and dramas and more.

Will Love in Spring is so far the best Chinese drama I've watched in 2024. Everything about the drama is just sooo good! The OST is so sexy, Li Xian so oozing with sex appeal. Li Xian's chemistry with the leading lady makes me feel like they are on in real life. This drama reminds me of the same feeling I had with Goodbye My Princess.

Douban ratings for the first drama can't comment as have not watched. In the name of the brother was too slow for me. There were many points which cud not interest me to stick to the drama so quit it half way. I guess the rating is OK for me as my POV. Will love in spring was good. All actors have acted well. Special words of appreciation for the little girl Niaoniao. If she pursues acting she will shine. Storyline was good. Loved the goose and geese coming back as the wrap up of the ending. Chemistry was fantastic. Hardly seen such wonderful chemistry. Overall a great watch. Rating cud be more. 8 cud have been better
Blossoms in Adversity is also good. I particularly like Hu Yitian here ... the role fits him perfectly.

Context DOES matter. The film is showing what UN Peacekeepers actually did irl. It wasn't done to mock or insult any race.
Netizens need to get a freaking life. The military, undercovercop, etc, use blackface and blackmask to hide their ID. Those Netizens needs to be sued.
Absolutely agree. Intention is what matters. All spies, secret agents and undercover cops are trained in disguise and how to blend in, in their speech, dress and looks. No different from an uncover agent having tattoos and acting like a gangster to infiltrate criminal gangs. Just ask the CIA. I'm sure they are authoritative on this matter.
People really need to get a brain and not be so easily triggered by some so called "sensitive" words.

People these days are just too easily offended, if they did it to mock African then yes, it's not ok; however, if the context is because they need to camouflage and blend in with African, then it's ok because it makes sense, realistic and that's what happen IRL. Imagine, if the actor still look very chinese but they can still succeed to fool African, that scenes would look so laughable and so unrealistic.
I think the problem lies with the fact that they are actors that looks good so their "camouflage" as locals doesn't work for the audience. I am darn sure that in the real life mission that was used as a reference for this story, they have much more convincing look. It just looks quite ridiculous judging from the BTS scene pictures alone.

Hi Marcus! Told ya there was a huge thing going on about the YiBo movie on X/Twitter and Weibo! I do understand, though, that many Asians don't get the implications behind blackface. When I was a kid, my TV in Malaysia had the Black and White Minstrel Show every Saturday and I watched it without thinking much about it. Neither did my parents. Many decades later, and having lived in the States, I tried explaining it to my parents and they still didn't quite get it.
My sister and her friend are still gushing about Will Love in Spring. I'm tempted :).
In The Name of the Brother has an okay Douban opening score, even though everyone seems to be critical about it. The score is higher than some of my favorite dramas, so it can't be that bad, eh?

I don't think the actors are the ones to be blamed. But it's highly disrespectful to do black face , I believe the producers should have thought about that and apologized. BiA is a great series and deserves the good recognition it's been receiving. There’s really no decent costume drama to watch so everything seems really empty and boring right now. Blossoms in adversity was the only good thing I’ve watched and now I’m just watching old movies and stuff. It’s taking way to long to wait for an interesting drama to be released 😑
I have my own opinion on Formed Police Unit as a black person and a direct descendant of slavery and also a fan of Wang Yibo....sigh...no hate to him....I don't agree with any type of cancel culture here but I would be lying if I don't feel offended and disappointed that the cast and production let this scene be filmed and I don't care about the plot or context....
Similar to how China also don't depict many accurate historical and real life events into film and dramas because it may not be inline with gov polices or best interests towards the Chinese people....do they think that this will be ok by all black people given many of us history....esp...for Wang Yibo who benefits from the Western Black Culture???
They literally delayed the drama for a few years to edit out Zhang Zhehan as they say....his actions hurt the Chinese people for his ignorance towards their history after canceling him....but yet let this part pass??
The real UN Peace Keepers....did so for a life and death mission...not for entertainment, profit and glory....I things can change for the better going faward and use this moment as a learning experience.

I'm seriously not trying to be insensitive but if historically this was actually done by UN peace keepers, why is it bad to portray it accurately in the movie? Yes, they could have left it out but I don't think it was put in to be entertaining, mocking, or offensive to any race.

Binged on "Will Love In Spring". It was a well written and well-acted drama. I hate to say this, but not enough directors are willing to do lots of PDA and intimacy to show love between two people. They would rather have them hug the whole time and one little kiss and that simply is not realistic. Additionally, as a single leg amputee, it really resonated with me and the sensitivity to that subject that the director so wonderfully portrayed and how she too can be loved. The love story itself, if you can get past the FL and her certain behaviors, is engaging with a message that you don't have to be an amputee to be disabled. And yes, I cried at certain parts. I'm also watching Li Xian in "Shooting Stars" and his character couldn't be more different. The sign of a good actor is NOT to get stuck in a stereotype. Although, as an American, I don't agree with some of the politics on this drama, there are enough interesting and exciting scenes that do keep me interested. Final note: Li Xian may be on my list as one of my new favorite actors. BTW, I give it an 8. It would have been higher if not for MY irritation with the FL.

Context in my book trumps shortsighted politically correct spiel in my book. The use of camouflage to blend in with the surroundings is not an unusual or contentious practice in the armed forces during training/active combat or reconnaissance missions. From the snippets of information I have come across regarding the film under review, netizens have focused on a single element (the blackface 'makeup') ignoring all other elements. What next? On stage it is not an "unusual" practice to "blacken" the face of Othello in the grand opera of the same name seeing that the character is a "dark skinned" foreigner in Venice. A practice which is never seen as an insult to persons of African or North African origin. The slavery trade involving persons of African descent lasted centuries (and modern forms of such practices exist today). Shutting one's eyes to these realities is the real insult to non whites, not blacken complexions on screen in a work of fiction where the reason of using such an expedient is in fact not contentious. The narrow mindedness & limited cultural background of some netizens has never been more clear as in this latest internet uproar. Neither am I surprised that the "blackface" of one actor from the ensemble of the cast was deemed more serious than that of the rest (a classic example of contorted thinking). Any excuse goes if it could be ammunition during a bout of online lynching at the expense of a high profile artist.

I have not seen the movie, simply because it's not the kind of storyline that attracts me. In my opinion, however, people are getting way too sensitive. How else would the Chinese characters be expected to blend in with a predominantly black population? It was necessary to the plot and presumably not intended to poke fun at black people.

Really. They could easily use black actors instead of using black face. There are many blacks living in China that speaks Chinese. Black face has a been used by whites to mock the enslaved Africans in minstrel shows. It depicts a painful and racist history that span over 200 years ago. It is wrong then and it wrong now. Everyone and country should learn to respect other cultures. Treat people and other the way you want to be treated.
I beg to differ. Black face is an insult to Blacks and African continent as a whole. Mikey Cyrus and Gigi Hadid were banned in China for pulling back the skin around their eyes, making their eyes slanted. Both were wrong in doing that because what they did was racist against Asians. So why would say that it is ok to use black face. There are many Africans living in China that are fluent in Mandarin. No human or culture deserves to be put down.

If they use the black colour on their faces as a camuflage during the mission, that is just NORMAL technik for soldiers, so that Is nothing to appologise for... 🤔 Be carefull on choosing your sources and do not just copy dirty things about the others ... Will Love in Spring was good, I think it should have gotten a higher score; it was a very mature drama.
As for the film; blackface is never ok. I’m not into woke terminology but this goes beyond that. It is disrespectful and ppl who say “oh it’s just a movie” or “oh the actors didn’t have a choice.” Those excuses aren’t valid because everyone has a choice (in fact WYB’s agency was contacted back in 2021 with these same concerns but were ignored) so everyone was aware. These actors aren’t children; they’re adults. Because we’ve all seen that if lord forbid someone in the West or Europe portrays Asian ppl disrespectfully, there will be immediate consequences and backlash. Pot calling the kettle black; respect goes both ways. It won’t affect the Chinese box office but it’ll be a problem if they decide to release it internationally. In any case, I’m not interested and I wish it wasn’t done the way it was. But not much any of us can do. Watch what we like and hope ppl make better decisions in the future.

@@patts7516 The ending does not justify the means. I am fully aware of what the UN peacekeepers have done as it relates to undercover operations in certain parts of the world . However, to see it displayed in a movie is offensive to certain audiences. Using blackface in entertainment is offensive or insensitive to the Black culture because of the horrible history. In America it was rooted in racism because people who were not black used Blackface to dehumanized the black race.

For all those people defending the black face incident I have just one question… if a white soldier was in china dressed himself in “Chinese face” colored his skin and made his eyes smaller to “blend in” how would Chinese ppl react to that?
Every time china does this they play innocent, but if you ever flip it to where they are the victim then they are outraged.
Asians have been mocked many times in entertainment. The difference here is this wasn't done to mock. UN peacekeepers actually did this camouflaging and the film portrayed it truthfully.

Marcus. I am really sad that this movie used the black face. It is all about respecting others. It is so sad that they did this. If any country were to do a movie and depicts China in a negative way, the citizens will boycott the movie. Chinese government will speak up against it and rightly so. Zhang Zhehan was boycotted for visiting the shrines in Japan. He was wiped out of all the social media in China. There are other actors banned in China, Miley Cyrus, because she took a picture where she pulled the skin around her eyes making it slanted. What she did was wrong because it has a racist connotation against Asians, like wise Gigi Hadid. If these actors were punished for what they did wrong. Why do this movie producers think that it is ok to use the Black face? It is insulting to a whole African continent and black oriole as a whole. What is good for the goose is also good for the gander.
As for the foolish ambassador of the Republic of Benin. He does not speak for all Africa or black people. He needs to apologize for being stupid. I have never rated any movie. Unfortunately I have watched all the main actor’s movies , dramas and I respect their talent. One would have think that they would raise concern about the use of the black face. If I have the opportunity to rate this movie, I will give it zero because of production team being culturally insensitive.
I saw on the news a racial discrimination against Nigerians inside of Nigeria. A Chinese owned supermarket in Abuja, Nigeria banned Nigerians from entering the store. Upon investigation from the consumer protection watchdog, they found that not only the discrimination, the prices were all in Yuan. The store was closed down. The owner was told that they can allow to do business if and only if they cater to everyone who can afford to ship there and prices has to be in local currency.
The problem in life is that if you allow something bad and call it trivial, it will keep multiplying.
I am someone that love and respect others and their cultures that is why I love watching movies from different countries, I love to know and understand people and their culture. My friends are comprised of people from different countries and cultures. When you understand people and culture, you learn to respect them.
This was a REAL undercover operation of UN to save lifes, not to mock anyone. The problem is that people is faster for being "offended" long before than caring about finding the true context.
The Chinese are not culturally sensitive and have no motivation to be so. This is the ugly truth. The revisiting & condemnation of the whole history of colonization of the Americas & Africa is a recent exercise undertaken by the ex colonists post WWII .... the Chinese have neither subscribed to it nor supported it. Need more be said. If anything, China is now eager to step in where others now claim they should never have intruded.

The FPU thing is just so disappointing and poorly handled. It was filmed so long ago and should have continued to gather dust on the shelf forever. I hope at least it starts a conversation about why bf is not okay/funny (or worse, "cute" like I saw some people calling it on weibo). I know there were originally plans for an international release, and I hope it gets as much backlash as it deserves if that ends up happening.

Good to see Wang Youshuo. Saw so many dramas with him then nothing. Lol I can't get used to your use of "booting". Here it means something is ended, given the boot, tossed away literally kicked away, finished. Mermaid sounds good. I had dismissed it as I was thinking it was some crap, frivolous Disney-type story.
But OMG - the blackface is pretty fucking bad. The pics you showed seemed so unintentionally hilarious i rolled on the floor whilst being shocked. There is no excuse. The context is terribly contrived and seems like they just wanted to do it as an FU to PC. All that is missing is a speech bubble saying Yes, massa". This is not good. Looks like the old minstrel makeup from the 70's. These shows were still going then, not just 19th century but relatively recently. Yibo looks the worst. I am so surprised. Especially regarding who he is and what he does. Not sure Street Dance of China will be the same. It ALWAYS has black dancers from all over the world. His dance life is directly related to the culture of black people and their invention and mastery of the dance styles showcased. Can't imagine his colleagues and friends will be happy about this. I love Wang Yibo, I still love him. But concerning use of BF, I was extremely offended and disappointed as an African, him and together with the rest of the cast. Since no Chinese has taken this seriously, I will just......It seems China nowadays will do what they want to do even if it hurts other people.

Context does matter imo. BF is wrong when used to mock or be prejudiced. Here though, they were undercover in the movie which accurately portrayed what UN peace keepers did irl.
