While the Zhongli & Xiao "father-son bond" is entirely fanon and doesn't have a single hint in game (they were both adults & Xiao has his own entire backstory before even meeting Zhongli for the first time), the Jing Yuan & Yanqing father-son bond has plenty of in game mentions.
Yanqing is an orphan and has no knowledge or memory about his biological parents - he doesn't even know if they are alive or not. Jing Yuan found him as a toddler and has raised him ever since.
Yanqing Character Story Part 1:
"Ever since he could remember, Yanqing would follow Jing Yuan around like a shadow."
Part 2:
"It's recorded in the military annals of the Cloud Knights how Jing Yuan came to discover the young boy [...] In the family lineage column, Yanqing's lineage was relegated to the category unknown."
This is again confirmed in text messages to the MC (the ones about finding kittens while the mom cat is not there):
Yanqing: "I just thought how I never saw my birth parents. I don't even know if they didn't want me or if they're already gone.
But then again, I don't have many memories anyways, so... I'm okay.
My earliest memory is the general teaching me."
In at least 2 voice lines (when opening a treasure chest & Chat: Swords) Yanqing talks about having an allowance (aka not a salary) and if he needs more money, he nags the General. So while not outright confirmed, it's reasonable to assume Jing Yuan financially provides for Yanqing from his personal funds rather than the Cloud Knights budget.
It's not entirely clear whether Jing Yuan adopted Yanqing legally on paper (we don't even know whether such a system exists on the Loufu), but for all intends and purposes Jing Yuan is his father figure since he's the one who raised Yanqing and provides for him.
I appreciate the sources more than you know, I love to see them recognized as father-son! Iâve seen it mentioned in a lot of places that Yanqing was found on a battlefield and havenât been able to tell if itâs canon or fanon - do you happen to know?
Cy Yu saying that Yanqing is his son makes me incredibly happy for some reason.

tbh if I lacked Gepard I'd be sad too lel. Even if I had every other 5 star. Dude makes content braindead. Also, realistically speaking, everyone has at least 2 standard 5 stars at this point(guaranteed 50 pull pity + 120 or so more standard pulls), more likely 3 since Seele and JY were both great pickups and their banners were good. So it's not like f2p's are a tragic case, really. If u managed 2 grab Gepard, Bailu or Clara, you're probably having an easier time with the game than people who don't. Cy Yu is in the second category. Worth remembering that just cause a character is a 5 star, that doesn't mean they're always better or even good. Besides Gepard and Seele, the most broken character in this game is a 4 star (Tingyun).
@@ValD98 I'd add Bronya to that list, but I somehow got lucky, and got her from the novice banner and also her E1 and LC from standard. Wouldn't say Gepard makes all content braindead, or at least not in my case - I desperately want a second healer haha
@@ValD98 I only ever got one 5*, because I wanted Clara, but the past 2 standard 5* pulls have been her and BAILUâs light cones. So realistically, I should have 16 characters, but I only have 12, with people bullying me for my account being ruined for wanting Clara but the game simply refusing to adhere to my wishes. I donât even have tingyun or sushang or arlan, Iâm stuck with Bronya who I canât properly use because her kit only works if you have a good enough dps, which I donât. Which is why cy yu shouldâve been grateful for his roster because I donât have a single 5* thatâs usable.
