- Hey guys! Back again with a beginner build order for Terran in sc2 in 2023. This is a basic build order that can be done in all matchups (but as you climb it will struggle versus Terran). I recommend it for plat and below, but you could use it up to diamond as well (and against Protoss, all the way to the top!). It focuses you on macro mechanics and winning with a simple macro style!

Veteran diamond league Terran here was looking at builds and this came up. I appreciate this build because it keeps it very simple. It is something a new Terran would do get marines and stim up into your opponent, lol. Difference is you give the build order, timing and explanations! Very great build for new Terrans! Dude, you're absolutely awsome, I've been playing starcraft since 2015 but because of uni I need to remember some things first. I can't imagine how much of a help you are for absolut beginners. Keep it up, it's great
Best beginner build order I've seen. It's actually simple, and super powerful. I was on a losing streak, but now I'm doing super well, and I feel way more confident in my macro cycle as I move on to other builds. This was exactly what I needed. Thank you. Comment, like, and sub baby!

Hello , I’ve been trying to play online and realize I’m a noob….. I’ve try to be better (second day playing online ) but it can be fustrating, because I get harrased for that , other players can be really toxic , some of my teammates even start attacking even though I ask them what to do. I hope that watching this videos I can become better and have some fun. Never played ladder before, and recently came back starcraft. Qualified for the first time ever (after years of only playing campaigns and custom games) at Gold 1 using this build. Thanks so much for a good guide that doesn't stress my low effective apm.

Remember the streak will eventually end, so don't get disheartened when it does, just keep on that grind.

@@MrTroxism yeah i was surprised. I did counter a cheese but a plat player, he left after a few minutes only (I had the first two Marines).
Great guide to start with! I like that you're concerned about the mental stack for beginners like me. There's no way I'm gonna be microing units, scouting, and managing a third base when I'm barely just starting and it's great that you take that into consideration and give me an idea on what to focus on! I know this is a beginner’s guide, but as someone literally playing sc2 for the very first time, most of this went right over my head, especially just the buttons you’re pressing to actually get stuff done like setting rally points or selecting multiple building at once that are too far apart to just drag that select box
Yeah I would class it as a beginners guide, but not a total noob guide (which is a perfectly reasonable state to be in).
I will make a guide for people playing sc2 for the very first time as well.
Not sure if it's just me or its placebo but I find listening to the same album whilst playing helps me hit my timings better. Also with this build specifically I like planning out what each SCV does. Like the first one built builds my depot>barracks>natural and the second one depot>bunker etc. I feel like pre rallying them to the locations I want to build those buildings really helps me not miss them in the build order.
Also I've found in really low ranks if you put down a 3rd base just before your second push you can play a standard macro game and shift tech into something like battlecruisers and you'll still usually be ok even if you just used the units you have to prevent them taking a 3rd then walked them home. Below high gold the first push was winning me almost all of my games so I feel like even if you do the timings wrong you should still be able to get a decent contain in bronze and silver.

Thanks for your videos! I just recently decided to learn SC2 Competitive (Long time singleplayer and co-op guy). Builds and build orders and yadda yadda confuse me so I like that you come out with these simple yet flexible videos and you even back them up by saying you could make it practically to Diamond with them! It makes me feel a little bit better about learning the game. Great content!

Yeah I found most guides too broad. Goal was to make it as simple as possible, yet still strong and teaching the fundamentals skills that can then be applied to other builds.

awesome guide and build. i recently came back to sc2 and for some reason started playing terran and it feels really nice and fun.
contradicting to what a lot of people say about ''terran is so hard and you need like 800 apm micro for bio'' honestly i find its rather easy. you dont need 800apm micro against not so great players. i m just a gold player. i can literally just a f2 a move my main army over, and then have a medivac filled with marines click it to the opponent base and shift click unload so it unloads when it gets there without further micro and it will be totally fine.
and i think terran goes really easy on you in the way its more forgiving on mistakes it feels like. macro cycle on terran is really simple. supply drop can counter supply block, mule can counter a bit laziness on workers and you can just select all raks and hold down a button to que like 50 marines and once your fight is over you already have a new army at home. on the other side with toss or zerg, if you miss an inject or you miss lavae production once or you miss your warp in cycles once, you re pretty much screwed because you have no backup army.

Hey probe, I hadn't seriously touched sc2 in about a year, and had only peaked silver. when i came back to the game i started practicing this build order every game, and i just hit plat for the first time with a 60% winrate. thank you so much for the clear and concise info, it's really helped

marine is among my favourite units so this build is something for me
im fairly new to the game and didn't know if they can be that effective so i always teched too early and probably its one of the reasons why im stuck - early void ray rushes and similar tactics from opponents usually quickly ends my matches
im stuck in silver so i hope i can get out with this :D

Moved from low gold to plat 1 pretty much instantly using this build. Also if anyone wants to see this build vs Terran Harstem has some videos one tricking a very similar build.
Also literally no one in plat sees you dropping widowmines into their base if you do it during the second push.

yes there is a lot of smurf in law league now with a lot of APM and some making 3-5 racks attack

Great product here. I just had a 22 win streak and my life is better than ever. Got married had a kid got her a little guinea pig. Funny enough my daughters guinea pig is even on a 20 game winning streak. Co-Workers have even been saying I look a little bit more attractive and in shape.. Shush. I not tell them my secret.

great guide but would like to see a few more games with it to see how it's implemented against Bronze, Silver, Gold opponents. Especially against early aggression like reapers etc
I see this as a solid build order guide for lazy micro player(im one of that). But there's no casual game lobby to practice with at all. The only vanilla mode is now in matchmaking.
Players in matchmaking are just sweaty and they'll use any tactics/cheese. You will need to convert somehow to repel those things.
aoe2 build orders are much more simple. Everyone who posts a SC2 BO guide never slows the game down for new players. 100 mph 100% of the time. Doesn't explain hotkeys. APM to the max.
It's like SC2 players don't remember what its like to be a new player.

Yo man thank you so much! What about a classic 1-1-1 tvx 2-base all-in with +1/+1?
When I do another Terran build it will definitely be a 1/1/1, to get people comfortable with factory units, and a bit of harass.
This build is good to get a great start but my concern is with invisibility and air unit rushes. An enemy terran rushing banshees could really mess this up as well as those invisible dudes on the protoss side, I would suggest slapping down a few AA turrets near your ccs and some other strategic spots, just add that in to all this and it would cover all your bases
If you want to add 1 turret in each mineral line you can, but don't build them too early, and don't get the ebay earlier for them.
Scans are more than fine for dealing with an initial invisible unit, and you have plenty of units as well.
I find this very easy to grasp by watching it, but when i'm playing, my brain shuts off after starport when i do 1-1-1 😂. This will be easier to follow im sure ... Only rax in the opener 😅
Don't worry, I feel the exact same. 3 rax is just so much easier to do :)
So, I saw Pig had a beginner Terran build as well where instead of doing 3 rax like you, he went rax rax and a factory. What are the difference between the 2 builds and which one is easier
Well they have similar goals: get to full 2 base economy and then produce a big army. Mine has a clear timing to hit. So you can iterate through games much faster in my opinion. You will also win games with the first timing.
Both useful, mine will get you very comfortable with bio, but struggle in TvT.

hi this might be a dumb question but the build order you have some numbers next to the name what does it mean?
e.g.
14 supply depot
16 barracks
16 gas
What supply to build on. So you build your first depot at 14 supply. Usually this will assume constant worker and unit production.

You know, someday the ai will have a breakdown from everyone calling it a noob all the time, and hes gonna remember you..
Yeah I've been trying this and so far every terran I encounter end up doing the stupid 3 rax rush
I am in silver and no joke, it's just pure cheese in the ladder. out of 10 games, if you try to play macro like this, you will loose about 8 because I've had proxy double helion rush at around 3 mins mark with 6 helions in my base, 12 pool rush with about 8 lings in my main by 2 mins mark, proxy 4 gates, you name it I've had it thrown at me. I was forced to scout, and even with scouting sometimes you can guess their cheese but with the timings, there's just no way to defend unless you forgo the natural expand and focus on heavy def.
This beats any cheese, what helped me in silver is having the mindset that yes, the cheese is doing damage, but they are not macroing behind it, they are tunnel visioning on the cheese, so if you go in with that mindset, it’s a lot more positive and you give yourself more of a chance
I am consistently over a minute later than you for the completion of the bunker, I have no chance at having a strong 4:30 timing, how to improve? I try really hard at doing everything as soon as I can according to the order so I don't understand why I'm taking much longer
Well the answer is to look at the replay and compare it side by side to what I am doing. It should become pretty obvious what is missing.
If you struggle with this I recommend joining my discord and posting the replay.
I think there has been a change to the supply cap. Your video has a starting 15 supply cap. In my games my start supply cap is 11. Am I missing something?
Yes. You are playing on the OLD versions of sc2. Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm had a 6 worker start. Legacy of the Void introduced a 12 worker start.

Theres so many builds that you need to scout and be ready for. Like 4 gate mass stalker even kills me with this build, and i am executing it to plan. Proxy stargate + shield batteries also kills it, bc marauders.
I cant get behind the "no scout" portion of this build. Suret works on the AI, but not actual thinking human beings.
Yes this build is serious. You might not win every single game, but it puts you in a good position to defend most things.

I need help, whenever i play againts terrans they rush me with tanks and i cant defend with marines or when I attack they always have tanks sitting there and all my marines die! and also someone made like 3 barracks near my base, flew it over into my base but where i couldn't see and made a ton a marines and destroyed me :( also thank you for this build im new and i got to gold!
You probably will struggle with the 3 barracks build. But for both of them, at your league, yeah you might lose some games, but just self reflect and compare to where I am at the same point.

i lost twice vs zerg to zerglish /roach rush timing and had to cancel my cc on the low ground. how to handle this ?
maybe a little too late for this response but for timing attacks like that u gotta build second cc inside, army also inside (marines or whatever you choose to go first) warding the wall and 1 or 2 tanks behind them, that will stop almost anything. only then you lift cc to natural and keep doing macro.

This strategy is great, untill you verse your average terran. It doesn't seem to matter what you play, they just turtle with tank viking lib planetary, etc and mass ghosts, BCs etc. I just cant do anything to them.

Well TvT definitely is the toughest matchup with this style. But if you are struggling against them getting mass ghost and BC, well you should be winning well before then.
Realistically when you attack they might have a couple of tanks, which can be tough, but they aren't going to have planetarys and libs.
So my advice is to first check your replays and cross reference them with the timings in the video. If you aren't hitting them then you know what to improve on. The secondly if you are and still struggling to break the turtle I would look at focusing your attacking efforts on your 2nd push with medivacs and tanks.
@ProbeSC2 I got a chance to check this recently, my timings are definitely off (just not used to macro yet), however by the first attack they still tend to get one or two tanks up on the high ground with a wall off, how should I fight that?
Continue with the game plan of getting Medivacs. Do a drop while pushing the front.
If it keeps going you'll have your own tanks and can slow push with them.
The nice thing is that you have versatile units. You can be creative how you use them.
All this being said though, macro is the biggest thing. You can trade poorly vs tanks if you macro better than your opponent.

Part of the problem with this game is it takes a while to get good. We don't need the cheap shots he gives u gg and u call him a noob. There's a lot of jerks in sc2

Yes, but maybe TvT will be the toughest. You can do this style against Protoss and Zerg into GM.
@@ProbeSC2 Would that be due to seige tanks? If I don't get damage done with my first push, I usually get out-macroed. It's hard to win on 2 base without perfect macro.

How do you start on like13/16, I start on 7 and max cap is 11
In wings of liberty and heart of the swarm (previous expansions) they started with 6 workers. In Lotv you start with 12.
So you probably aren't playing the latest and up to date versions
I used this method for qualifying I have lost every single match.
Compare your games to mine (in the replay). Look at the supply at different times and see if they match up.

Using this strat how do I deal with Reaper rush?
This will probably lose to a well executed proxy 2 rax reaper. Otherwise just a standard reaper rush you will just hang on until you get your first unit out. You can even switch to building one marine before the reactor.

Ive personally tried this several times, im only in gold 3. Ive gotten smashed every single.time. im just not fast enough. Granted that sc2 is mostly a twitch clicker in 2024 and this video was done in the past, it gets a pass IMO. It's based on solid information. Perhaps an update for this content?
What's Required for this to work, is just have at least 150apm a minute, and git good. At that point this will work. But mostly in lower leagues. But then again if we had such high apm we wouldn't be watching this in the first place...
above the platinum league there is only rush...
What kind of rush is giving you problems?

What kind of rushes are you facing?
This is a framework and should cover you for a lot of situations. But of course it can't do everything.
If you are constantly dying to really early rushes, then you know what builds you can specifically learn to deal with. You don't have to do this build in a vacuum.
@@ProbeSC2 i also dont get one thing: why so many tech labs instead of reactors. ok, vs protoss we want to have marauders, but against terran and zerg we still dont want to go just 1 tech lab and 4 reactors for larger marine numbers?
At the very least you need 2 tech labs for this build. You need to research both stim and combat shields, and you are attacking once both are done. So you need that as quickly as possible.
What you put on the 4th and 5th barracks don't really matter. But generally reactors take so long to build that you see a lot more tech labs than reactors.

Your starcraft journey will be long, you will lose games.
If you are in the lower leagues, and you truly focus on good scv production, getting production down on time, and not missing unit production, you will win a lot more games than you lose.
Scouting is going to be detrimental to the improvement of the majority of people this build is designed for.

2 base all in all the time will not really make you understand and be good at the game, lets be real here, so in all, i think its a terrible build for begginers, it will only get the stuck with all ins.
Correct. This build is a framework for learning how to macro, and then hitting a timing so you can iterate quickly and effectively.
You will build the underlying skills required to solve the majority of your problems when you decide to start adding a third base, a fourth base, adding ghosts, etc.
wow no scouting and have a reactor. must be a pro. me no pro so will not build this. i need beginner safe stuff like send the scv who build the barrack to scout etc. the only thing that i can guarantee is that this will not work in Asian ladder above silver.
I mean you can try it. The reactor actually keeps you safe against a lot of things.
And if you don't scout and just focus on doing everything correctly, you are going to be better positioned to deal with things, than if you scout.
