  • This is the "B" Side of "Give & Take". A real scorcher! It's amazing how psychedelic this track is considering that MANDALA were in no way a trippy band at all. Dom just liked tripping out with really neat instrumentals. Check out "Mello Carmello Palumbo" on the ATLANTIC Album. On this one he really gets a down & dirty sound, though. Anybody ever hear of a ZONK Machine? That's the gizmo Dom was using on this........screech & raunch all in the same little aluminum box! All the guys tripped out on this......I'm not sure, but I think the second organ solo might have been by George! I've remastered the audio to bring out the drum & guitar sounds - enjoy!!
    Domenic Troiano - guitar
    Whitey Glann - drums
    Joey Chirowski - organ
    Donny Elliot - bass
    George Olliver- second organ?
PUT ON THE HEADPHONES & CRANK THIS !!!

Music from one of Toronto’s and Canada’s premier guitarists. I had the privilege of seeing him twice at Nags Head North and at Club Blue Note. It is hard to believe this is 54 years old. As a soloist The Jokes on Me is in my mind his most prolific work. Miss him so much.

Oh ;yes!!! I remember seeing The Mandala playing at the old Crang Plaza auditorium at Jane and Wilson, I stood right in front of his Traynor Custom amp and was mesmerized by his playing.

Saw them first when they were the 5 Rogues in January 1966. He managed to get close to that tone out of a Brown Fender Concert and a Tele before he started using a maestro fuzz tone.

@oatstao I'm still looking for Yorktown LP of your 1st - elusive after 25 years even living coast to coast in Canada. Is the ZONK machine the same box referred to when they went out to west coast USA and someone gave it to them and then it somehow at somepoint disappeared..or was that a different device? I forget the details. heh.. what kind of fuzz unit did the Ducks use early on? A maestro Fuzz tone? or straight overdrive?

Hey there, Mr. Ugly Duckling. I saw you guys at the Broom & Stone. I also saw you guys departing from Larry Sykes’ music store in Scarborough after you auditioned your guitarist…I was leaving after my drum lessons. Too bad your Mandala Images are fuzzy!
