    That McMahon press conference was fascinating. I've never seen a coordinator answer press conference questions like that, he wasnt just spouting a quick answer, but actually explaining things like a coach. I wish more coaches did that publicly. It also seemed like Graham was a lot more enthusiastic than previously.

    I always thought it was weird Josh mcdaniels staff moved dylan parham over the left side in the first place. Dude played on the right side his whole college and nfl career up to that point when we brought in alex bars. I think it goes to show how much better this staff is already since they're putting him where hes more comfortable.

    • @RaiderWing
      @RaiderWing Před 24 dny

      It’s cause morons like McDaniels are so arrogant, they think they’ll make something work because they think they can shove squares into circles. Especially with OL and defensive players.
      Just look at the defense last year. Night and day after AP and Graham coached players to their strengths, changing up schemes, etc, to get the most out of their players talent, instead of their mandate from McDaniels, to shove squares into circles.
      It’s like the GMs/coaches who keep drafting man corners, thinking they’ll make them zone corners. Rarely works but they keep trying it.
      It’s the craziest malfunction with coaches at the NFL level. We don’t see it in college very often at all. For example, Ohio State recruits certain types of WRs and LBs to play their schemes. Year after year after year, and it works. In the NFL, many coaches and GMs are so arrogant, they’ll take over a very physical, power running, play action offense, NOT change any of the personnel, other than a couple skill position players, and try running a spread offense. Now while I’m exaggerating a little, 90% of the time, that’s why coaches fail. They rarely are gonna be able to flip their entire team personnel wise, but flip their entire scheme. When what they should do is have a goal to reach their scheme completely, but until they have the players to play that scheme completely, they need to adjust their schemes. Unfortunately they refuse to do it, and it’s OL and defensive players who suffer the most because of it. They’re expected to be able to play all these different schemes, way more than skill players are.
      It’s why McDaniels will never be a great head coach. Well that and he’s just not a very likable person. They have all these complex schemes in their heads, but fail to realize basics still work. It’s why guys like Harbaugh usually always win too. They come in and get back to basics.
      It’s why teams like the Ravens and Steelers win year after year after year. Whether they have great QBs or not many times. They draft players who fit their schemes to a tee, rather than drafting a great player, but only getting 80% of the player, because they play him in a scheme or position, he doesn’t excel in as much. Then if they do draft a player who has other skills, on top of what they need, they’ll add things to their defense or offense, that allows that player to contribute even more.
      That’s why we should be so excited about where this team is heading. Very few teams seem to copy that Baltimore/Pittsburgh way, but we’re seeing it now in Detroit, and so far with the Raiders. We know it’s gonna continue too, because AP is from that Marvin Lewis tree. Marvin’s addition to this staff cannot be talked about enough. It’s that Baltimore philosophy and we should all be ecstatic, because if they stick to it, in 10 years the Raiders will be viewed the same way. As a franchise who’s in the playoffs more than not, and always has their eyes on the prize.
      So hopefully, and it looks that way from what Hondo is saying, they’re going to put Parham back in the position he excels at the most, rather than continuing McDaniel’s mistake. I’ll wager he won’t be the last player from that regime, we’ll see excel even more under this coaching staff.

    Most fans rank, rate, judge, or whatever you wanna call it, how a team is built, and it’s expectations, with high draft choices, high end signings, etc, etc. Whether it’s stuffing circles into squares or not.
    It’s the biggest mistake fans, media, and even owners, GMs and coaches make.
    Every once in awhile, we have teams like the Patriots, but more so the Ravens, Steelers, and now a team like the Lions, who are really good because they acquire players who “fit” what they want and do. Not so much system players, but guys who’s skillsets fit with what those teams do. For example, how many times have we seen free agent signings from the Ravens and Steelers not work out with their new teams? Patriots too. Tons of them. Even further, those teams don’t seem too upset when they lose players because they don’t wanna pay them what they’ll get in free agency. Baltimore does it yearly. Just drafts players who fits what they need physically and style wise, and then it’s “next man up” at every position.
    That’s what we’re finally seeing with the Raiders. That’s how they just drafted for the first time in decades. Just look how certain players improved overnight with AP instead of McDaniels. Look how Jack came in and dominated almost. He was cut by NE ffs. They’re putting players in positions to succeed. Not forcing circles into squares. So while fans are screaming to draft a certain big name player in round 3, the Raiders may have had zero interest in that kid in round 7, because he wouldn’t fit what they do. Where a kid like Glaze might fit what they want perfectly.
    It’s why you never see Pittsburgh or Baltimore fans complain much about their picks anymore. They just trust their team, knowing they’ll likely fit perfectly.
    Telesco seems to recognize this. So it was smart for him to be all-in with drafting players who fit “OUR” system. Players who may not play well in LA or KC but will be very productive football players under AP and Graham.
    So right now, we really do need to trust what these guys (running this team) are doing. For example, everyone’s been screaming to sign a starting corner. They don’t seem too nervous about it. Do they just know Bennett is gonna have a break-out season? Maybe so.
    The Ravens and Steelers have been consistent playoff teams, with or without a franchise QB for 25 years now. Because this is what they do. Starts at the top though. Mark has to keep this regime together. Don’t panic with a bad season here or there. If players are performing for a certain coach, you keep the coach.
