Thank you for posting this. This is the best video on installing a heating system for an above-ground pool (and there aren't very many). Very informative and helpful, and answered all of our questions.
hello, i have a 12 foot by 22 foot Intex above ground pool. I live in Florida and i was wondering if this heater will be able to heat enough to take the chill out of the water?
I found that if you have direct sunlight not obstructed by trees or fencing, it would work well. The key part is to have the panel continuously receiving sunlight to heat it. I hooked up two panels and the water was warm with temps you would never get in Florida.
I built 2 solar boxes. Each one is 4x4 using 2x4 with 250 ft each of high quality 5/8 black water hoes. Got them hooked to there own pump a 12 inch intex sand pump I ran a hose over the top of the pool to suck out the water and a hoes over the top to put the hot water in. You need to find a place in your yard where you get full sun. I put some old shower doors over the top of the solar boxes and the water gets very hot.
I have the same pool and I think you've run your pump backwards. That one big hose that, was spraying is the feed hose, it's the skimmer of sorts and the two jets on the right side are jets and are meant to circulate the water. So one hose in two hoses out you have two hoses in one out :)
Also one more thing, ditch that pump it's not sufficient for the size pool. I've got the same pool and the first thing I bought was a sand filter and 1 hp pump, I think you'll find the solar heater works better when you can move more water. That, pump is rated at 1500 gph in a 7092 gallon pool and then you restrict it a bit by running the heater and it's also not flowing enough because you've routed the hoses backwards. :)
@@uchi00 Once I hooked up two panels warm water came out. And yes I agree that a larger pump is better. I already upgraded from the small one that came with the pool, but an even larger pump would have been nice. My issue is that the panels did not receive sunlight all day long due to trees, so they got cold in the late afternoon.
Ok im assuming you have been disappointed with this product. in my opinion two reasons will be causing 0 temperature increase. No 1 you just don't have enough solar panel surface area (the panel is way to small). No2 your using an electric pump which will result in Water being pumped out the panel before it has warmed at all. Solutions no1 get more panels or black hosepipe Solution to point no2 throw the pump away and use natural convection to pump the water. This will be slower and alow the panels to work. You will find surprisingly good results with convection and its free.
After this video I actually upgraded my pump and changed my pool pump. Even with two panels, the temp increase was quite minimal. You are correct in stating that the surface area is just two large. So I think I might downgrade to a smaller pool (gasp) next summer and connect my two panels. I have considered black piping, which will help, but this is about as handy as I can get, so not sure how much more I want to invest in this.
No dont downgrade no no no...invest in a solar pool cover blanket they look like bubble wrap they are lightweight easily removed amd folded off to the side they make the pool really warm if you have sunlight...i saw a guy coiled a 100 foot garden hose back and forth on his roof another guy simply laid it out on his yard and occassionally ran the hooked up garden hose from the return side throughout the hose back return into the pool sounds funny but it works also black trashbags with hula hoops inside them work for cheap cheap..i used to put them on my pools i had for my kids in summer...they were inflatable or preformec plastic but around 8 feet by 6 feet or 9 foot round or 6 ft round. Not deep just 24 inches or 18. The water would be icy cold then within 2 hours warm as bathwater. The solar blanket pool warmer works great.
@@tamarakennedy4976 I had one of these two. My challenge was that I didn't want to buy a roller for it, so it was cumbersome taking it in and out of the pool
I would install a divertor with a shut-off valve and separate it from the pump and have a 1/2" hose go straight to the solar heater and then to the pool . That way, you can control the flow of water and have real heated water in your pool
I just bought one of these 2nd hand..going to make a portable shower for my van. Will use PV and maybe an electric dc pump to assist...anyone have any ideas??

That’s one hell of a pool pump !
You've gotten fantastic info these.
I have one like this plate really heats up

Did you need to put bypass kit for two panels?

If you want to gain lot's of heat put this on your rooftop and get longer tubing with a stronger filter.
How did the solar heater work out after?

@@wisegirl also the water flow is to fast for the solar panel to work put a diverter valve in
I have two of these in series and I swear they have done nothing gimick
so does it work does the pool get warmer ?
Looks good . Where did you buy the solar panel ?
Amazon
What city are you located in? Just trying to understand feasibility for colder climates.
This was in Vancouver area, BC, Canada
How big is that pool
Ma’am you need a bigger pump. I upgraded my pump and love it
where did you buy the extra hose?
She mentioned in the video she got it from Amazon
It looks like you followed the water flow that is embossed on the heater, NOT what is printed in the instruction book. Correct?
Not sure what you mean, but the heater did output warm water
wisegirl It turns out that it doesn’t matter which way the water flows through the heater. Enjoy the rest of Memorial Day weekend.
The instructions now say that it doesn't matter which direction the water flows in the unit.

So does this heater work or is it not worth it?
I would build your own, trust me
How warm does your pool get?
I CAN DO THAT not very warm, barely in the 70’s so I was disappointed. Part of the issue is that my pool is shaded for about 3 hours of the day
intex bestway and coleman pools are made by the same company also get yourself the intex sand filter pump to replace the garbage coleman pump
Does it work? we are considering getting this to heat our pool since it's June and our pool is still 70*
It does work, but I would recommend connecting two panels and have them in direct sunlight all day to work well.

Not sure what capacity of the panel is. My camp shower is a 5 gallon bucket left in the sun with a ball valve and a hose. Works well.
Just make sure it is at the best angle to the sun! Best of luck!
hi good night i have a pool just like yours just a sign heats it
Did it say you had to buy another hose?
Yes
What is the water temp coming from heater
no the water pass through the solar panel and heats up.but you have to work the pump
WHERE CAN I GET THAT HOSE AND ADAPTERS????
Amazon
If you're not renting. How about an inground pool?
I H this was a bit of a test to see the layout of our yard with a pool in it. I’d love one. Maybe in a few years or so!
I could answer that because I've priced it. Inground is very expensive.
Inground pool 35-50k + landscaping
Does it work or not ????
Yes it works, but it needs a lot of direct sunlight during the whole day
Too long and boring
