Mercedes S600 field find 1st start in years. Old start cold start.

- This had been sat around for literally years, and it needed moving,
After a lot of messing it started and ran.
It originally came in with top end knock but we think it has never had an oil change so what can you expect..
It has an amazing spec it even has a an air conditioned wine cooler in the rear seat armrest.
My phone decided to loose the video of me actually driving it, so inserted a knackered ml320cdi cold start in the mix too... - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Surprisingly, it's not hard to restore an S600 like this. Just a lot of patience and parts sourcing. It can be done and they'll act like new. Never underestimate a W220
One of my favorite videos! Would love to see this car brought back to life. You guys should wash it and change the oil!
clean from dust, change oil, give him an inspection -
and then CAREFULLY take him back to life !
Amazing car.. i never saw one personally in my contry. shame its been neglected..v12 gems like these are rarer to find
Eu também nunca vi um pessoalmente aqui no Brasil.
Some great old cars that still work..!! 👍😀👌
This makes me want to cry. Poor old Merc. This is like the car equivalent of waking up from a coma.
I totally agree, ever since I first saw it squashed down on a slanty hill, I wanted to start it!
Best day ever when 'we need to move the s class was' heard...
I can see it being my next purchase....
can confirm that waking from a coma is utterly bad and confusing as hell (two weeks in my case)
Marek puhar
Lachlan Cook You can get one of those for under 3k. And it doesnt even look good desingwise. The poorest thing in the video is the VW Bug rotting there.
@@leoborn6595 you can't buy this for 3k, car like this in good condition will cost you at least 15k
Start-up @ 8:09
You're welcome
thx
i dont read coments before i see the video
Thx
Thanks for that pity i watched a load of shit up until then.
That is not the real start-up.
The V12 always needs something to drink first. I wanna see this one back on the road!
How could someone throw a masterpiece like this away...
After only 48,000 miles! It wasn't even out of warranty!
Because it's the worst S class ever made by Mercedes, full of problems ( oil leaks, repeated suspension problems, electricity repairs, you name it
Couple of pints of paraffin in the old oil.. Let it just run for an hour or so. Then an oil/ filter change (cheap stuff will do) but don't run the engine hard. It wont rev over three grand anyway in park. Give it another O/F change with good synthetic and at least it will be cleaned out and probably unstick the lifter. Fully charge the battery (off the car). Clear all the fault codes stored. Drive It. Hit the up down on the suspension repeatedly while doing at least 50kmh and toggle the ABC sport a few times. This should clear the ABC, BAS and ESP problems. Oh, put lots of petrol in it :).
lousbits you sound knowledgeable. Tidy motor. Worth saving too
Where it is
One of the best engines ever made. NEVER be intimidated by stories or comments. If a man built it, a man can fix it. Follow a systematic logical approach to get it running perfectly, then throw a header on it. Plenty of info available online from guys who have conquered every "problem" engine. Have fun, nice car.
I love THIS comment straight facts I'm keeping my w221 😂
Nuh uh this particular one isnt great, they ditched it after a few years for a complete redesign into the m275 this model had issues, not a bad engine but it certainly isn't the greatest
Hahaha nah bro German engines out of warranty are a nightmare
@@Edalfredo no it’s not lol - it’s only a nightmare for people who can’t look after a car themselves .
Sffggg
gotta love that key mark going right down the driver side! Someone was jealous
Nice car and interior. Only 48,000 miles and it's life ended too soon. Very, very expensive when new too.
Nathan Nelson they should save that car
Beautiful car i hope it gets back on the road
I've got my fingers crossed too.
and back to the rightful owner ha ha
dragon 71 hhh
v12 to start with...
i hope the last owner will go to prison for such a crime
es un vehiculo de buena calidad y hermoso, trite verlo en ese estado, vale la pena rescatarlo para que le haga la vida mas comoda a alguien que lo necesite.-
Mercedes is a Mercedes !! you should post an update on this baby..This car is for life !
You sound a bit Welsh 😊😊😊😊 the car's not even got over 50,000 miles on it. That's amazing 🖒
They aren't the smartest no gas an sounds like little to no oil
Your probably right, on some counts, the car came to the field several years before with top end knock, highly suspected it had never had a service, they changed the oil and filter, ran it several times, pronounced it still ticking and needed at least a top end rebuild or engine. Owner has other cars, didn't want to spend the money, it has sat. It was on quite sideways slope, and I would of probably put 2 gallons fuel in if it was me. The oil was up to level on the computer.
What ever moron said it needed a new engine because of lifter tick should be sent to the kitchen. Poor service history can be remedied if caught in time. Bet if you took the valve cover off and clean the lifters that engine wouldn't make a sound when its running.
Gfix s
Oil 20-60 and molykote good bye bads sounds
Could you not have bought the car, refurbished it and sold it for a profit before it became so far gone with sitting unused? The same could be said for all those cars sat around for months which I assume have come in with similar stories. A salvage yard near me refurbishes and sells interesting cars sold to it as scrap and they go back on the road. Often what makes cars uneconomical to repair is the cost of labour searching for a problem and pursing false leads. If you can do the fix yourself that cost is cut out and with a bit of time and a few parts you've got a nice Merc you can use or sell.
Bad handling of an engine that hasn't been started in a long time, even the petrol could be a hazard to the efi system, not to mention old oil and stuck rings seals and bearings, for the very least this engine and fuel tank should've been drained and flushed. This vid should be re-titled 'How not to do an engine first start in years' . Good luck to the S00..
They didnt care about the car for years. Why should they now? They probably just needed it to go for a short distance so someone else could take care of it. I bet you cant even change engine oil so you should stop talking on what needs to be done.
@@NomNomNom1989 You'll be wagering against reality in your own ego..are we now supose to bet that you're a auto-mechanical engineer ? Gtfooh with your foolish logic man,you make no sense .
No oil change no cleenup no fuel no small checks just cranking and cranking this man must have never touched that thing!
Половина ролика машина на зарядке , когда сразу можно было поставить свежий аккумулятор и всё на этом ! 😆👌💨 💯
Cars are made to be driven and when i see car like this sit abandoned its painfull. Many people say that cars are just metal and nothing more but i dont agree with that

Mercedes Benz 500 big car sitting there long time hope you get moving seats good condition engine needs cleaning up inside the mechanic shop awesome video keep up the good friend bless you
Bad ass car and ABC still works! Save her! Probably just has a stuck lifter. Has rare Segin wheels too.
poor trying to start a v12 without gas
I would of probably put a few gallons in if it was my call. So agreed.
We didn't realise how low the fuel level was and it was on quite a side slope.
look at the inside of eng for sludge. if no sludge then drain and repl fuel and retest
SMOG the moment I saw those jumper cables that was my first thought!! To 'fry' Isn't even the word.

so you started a practically brand new car. amazing.
Mercedes Benz is My fauvorite car model So is nice to see when it's alive after years :)
The interior is amazing!
That old S class is much better than 99% of new cars! Abandoning it is a crime, there should be some jail time for it haha
I am used to see 1940's 50's 60's classic cars videos called "cold start after years" "barn find Ford T starts" etc. but a 2003 Mercedes now ? Damn I feel like future is coming fast
Its really beautiful ❤️
I love this generation of Benz S Class, the design of the rear lights is very beautiful,It's a shame that this car is in this condition.
Wow! 48k miles! Barely even used!
Well, we could not afford running it for another 25k miles. It's an S-class and not even that old. Good car, but not quite budget friendly.
I've lived in Spain before as well, ( we have a holiday home there and i went to college in Valencia for a year) and people seem to keep very old cars on the road. Those s classes are not really worth anything. I bought 3 the same as that petrol one all diesels, I think 2 2002's and 1 2003 facelift for 900 euro ( for the 3 of them). 300 euro per car! ahhahah its a v12 though
so you buy diesels, of course they are cheaper. Gas versions are always more expensive
It is just sad how this expensive V12 luxury car is sitting in pile of dust just with 48k miles. I mean how much service this car really needs at this mileage if maintained properly? These M-B should last houndreds of thousand miles...
In Spain they are not using miles ! Thats 49000 km so 30500 miles are right.
A first-team I like it Nextime you look battery and they Sheikh système break, good luck and thank you
What a beautiful car 🥺 Wish I could drive one, to own one would be a dream coming true 😇
And you wish to maintain one too, thousands of dollars and endless things breaking on it.

absolutely incredible the airmatic suspension still worked!
Its not Airmatic, its ABC ( Active Body Control )
Did they even bother to look at the oil stick first?
The oil is on the dashboard on these and that read level as good before we started trying to start it.
When he said "look at the oil" that also implies the quality of it, not just the level; after so many years is not that good
Running it for a short time wont do any more damage then it already has. Had an S-Class that sat for 4 years. Moved it 5 km to the mechanic on its own power. It was later parted out and I got probably 4 times more money parting it then I would selling it.
fuck that, as long as water didnt get into the oil its fine. I had an engine that sat 10 years in a car and i swapped it over into another, got it running and ran it for 100km before i changed it. to this day its been to the track, redline it etc and its still fine
The W220 V12s don't have dipsticks. It might have a tube with a plug, and if so, you can buy a dipstick. Otherwise you will have to drain some oil to see the quality of it. When you've gone that far, may as well do a proper oil change, which is required after sitting for over a year.
That car has no fuel in it. I love that particular model.
This looks like the earlier 1999 - 2001 non bi-turbo 5.8 V12 367 BHP model ??
I had the 2004 version of this same car (S600) in Maroon with Cream leather seats and walnut wood trim.
It was 5513cc (smaller 5.5 version of this same engine) but it had 2 turbos bolted onto it and an inter-cooler, which made it produce close to 500 BHP ! (493 BHP if I remember rightly?)
I have to say, that this was one of the best and nicest looking cars I had ever owned and it was very fast for what it is !! (a big saloon car weighing over 2 tones)
I part ex'd it in 2014 for a 2009 CLS63 AMG which is also a brilliant car and also very good looking too, but somehow it doesn't quite match the ride quality of my old S600 even though both cars have height adjustable airmatic suspension.
I now miss my old Mercedes S600 now !! even though its power delivery was more lazy and lay'ed back compared the CLS63 AMG !
Wow! Only 48K miles!? This is a great find!
Criminal
If a car/bike been sitting for too long .. first thing I'd check is the OIL ... most of the time the oil is unusable.
I have a garage in Velez Malaga, have the same problem.I charge for storage though and have found that works.
Some gems in that yard. See the old beetle.
Fantastic car, keep it and modify the beast!
I imagine one of the people at Merc company calling the guy who assembled the engine by hand...
" Yo Frankfurt, come and check out your engine"
I was going to say 'yo fritz' but yes....
ScoutSpyScout what makes you think that this car was assembled in Frankfurt?
Mercedes is in Stuttgart.
I didn't state so , i presumed it's some guy's name in Germany
Only AMGs are hand built.. this v12 is garbage if you ask me. Rather have a v8 with twin turbo.
the interior magnificent
That volts wagon bug is nice I like it as it is
Painful to watch, as I'am a previous Benz owner. These Mercedes were really engineered well. Hope they get good service and a caring owner if they go back to the dealers.
A drug dealer I got involved with took me to see his 600 getting worked on. The problem started with his dash lights coming on when he stepped on the brake. He took it to a shade tree mechanic place along a street called Caesar Chavez Boulevard (You know what part of town this always is if you lived in California).. The guys wore bandannas on their heads and purported to be Mercedes "experts". They gutted the interior and waited 6 months for a new wiring harness to come from Germany. The guy thought he was being screwed so he took me to see the car. They had the harness on the floor.. it must have weighed 200 pounds. The guy bent the wires back against their natural lay and all the insulation cracked. (Remember..the original problem?). I noticed that the catalytic converters were missing. They had welded in some jumper pipes. I figured they stole the converters. I didn't say anything. The harness came in and they reassembled the car and the problem with the dash lights persisted. He paid them 14K for the work and drove away. They said it was the "computer". He came to me about 2 months later and said he was going crazy with trying to get someone to get him a computer for the lights. I opened his trunk and swapped out a single prong bulb that someone had forced into a two prong socket. The single prong was jumping across the two terminals and causing the dash lights to be back fed from the brake circuit. I replaced the bulb in about 2 minutes and the guy got an angry shocked look on his face. He asked how much I owed him. I told him $100. He tried to argue with me and I told him that he willingly bent over for the royal screwing the other guys gave him. He punched me in the face and threw a $100 bill at me and burned tires all the way out of my lot. (I looked under the car.. the converters were still gone.. I didn't have the heart to tell him).
Love this story lool
I was expecting like a big dust cloud to come from the engine, when it started lol
I always wonder what happened to this car….
Mercedes S600 field find 1st start in years. Old start cold start.
Or
How to ruin a v12 engine.
They said in another comment the engine already had a knock before sitting for years. So it needed a rebuild anyway. It's not worth it when they just needed it moved
obnxs donky never had a oil change so that would do it
If you fix it up I'm sure you can get 20K for it, its almost brand new
Great video!
Engine sounds great 😂
It is so sad to see a car like this abandonned
It is a pity that people leave their cars around in bad shape ..
John Doe :Yeah,it is!😢
yes true but you never know what happened. Maybe the owner was ill or fucking ladyboys in thailand
that poor 6.0 V12 engine's lifters have seen better days, this car truly is a diamont in the rough

2 things, GIVE THAT DOG WATER and the battery will probably EXPLODE in that weather
In personal experience, There coulve been damage done by not putting atf or deisel in the cylinders. Also Looking at the plugs and checking the air cleaner would've been for the best. Only because of how long it sat, regardless or the maintenance being done right before it was parked.
The reliability of these fucking cars is amazing........ love my 2006 s55 amg

8:16 that engine sounds like it is running with literally no oil in it at all. You can actually hear the camshafts coming into contact with the valve tappets.
It slowly gets a bit better as oil flows into it

Take the dog off the chain
They aren't my dogs or my place. They are let off in the nights, (they are fed twice a day, given loads of water, given treats and toys etc.) but in the day the white one is a bit racist and wants to eat any spanish people who come in range, so in the day she is tied up. The black one is normally off chain but followed the landlords dog onto the road and headbutted the side of a new jeep. We have to pay for the dent so he is on the chain for a bit. They are guard dogs...
haha
Gfix head butted ? Lol
They both sound alpha as fuck. Also it's wise to keep them on a leash, in case they dislike someone and there is no one else around. Not many people can fend off an attack dog / pitbull.
