Great video John and Mick! The old gentleman oiling the engine was wonderful to watch, the loving care he gave to all the moving parts, heart warming. I wish there was that love for steam here in the states. I don't think we could take a beautiful contraption like that out on the roads over here. Thanks John. There are a fair number of tourist railroads, and plenty of antique farm equipment shows with a goodly selection of traction engines around the country. In pennsylvania, there is Rough and Tumble and they do a few shows every year, lots of steam.
I'll bet that takes quite a bit of forethought in order to drive, especially with some folks not knowing it doesn't respond like a modern car, LOL! Thanks for the great videos John...Aloha, Chuck
+ChrisB257 It is gear driven. the rear wheels have huge gears on the inside, that's where the noise comes from. Absolutely normal for this type machine.
Just how much work will it be to get that main gear set out, weld it up and reshape the teeth? Not make it a helical gear ( that would destroy the purpose, unless you used the Citroen patent to get the side thrust less gear system, doable now as the patent has long expired but was still in force when these were in use so a period upgrade) but at heast get a more hypoid gear profile to reduce the wear. Still will be noisy as it is open, but will last a long time. Might be somebody who can do the required metal spraying while it is mounted, makes less work, and just a 1/8in layer of harder wearing steel over that cast iron with minimal profiling would make it a sweeter machine.

I live in the U.S., and there's definitely a 'car culture' here where most drivers erroneously think pedestrians have no rights, but c'mon, it's a damn steam locomotive! I choose not to drive, so I'm always a pedestrian, and from my perspective those in this video just seem rude.

They need to enjoy themselves and wander about in a daze and sod everyone else, just walk in front of an engine or other people as and when they like. They never think that a big engine will slide on the cobblestones when braking and kill them.
+Brandon Fesser The museum designers have obviously done their job well if you think this is a typical public road. It is not, it is part of aa museum where most traffic is people with the very occasional slow vehicle moving about.

i'm mildly curious if the number plate is legit. Idk, i don't quite understand European license plates... I like the idea that this vehicle is allowed on the road, legally. ie) you could theoretically drive it anywhere, like you can w/ tractors. Cool stuff regardless. Absolutely amazing machines...majestic af.
