- I was travelling to Abu Dhabi for work recently and took the opportunity to get some spearfishing in while I was abroad in the UAE. It's been a long time since I've been able to get into some warmer water diving and this didn't disappoint. Diving on shipwrecks looking for amberjacks and king fish was the name of the game and we certainly got the job done! Particular thanks to Will & Abdullah from Abu Dhabi, Kory in Dubai and of course my colleague Laura behind the lens for this video.

That was Fantastic!! As a Canadian I am used to dreaming of going to far off places with warm waters teeming with a variety of different fish! I know many people from Canada that have been to the UAE for work in the oil business but none of them ever mentioned fishing of any kind on their days off. If I ever get the chance to head over, it's nice to know that heading out on a spearfishing mission is more than just a wish! Cheers, and it's nice to see you back!!

What a great video, thank you Daniel. These days our harbour in Odessa is full of mines and russian battleships. My fishing partner joined the army to protect our country (Max,if you're reading this - keep it safe and kick some as)! And the mullet season is about to start...hope we'll get this situation done by the summer and come back to normal life that we used to have!

Great video. That tangle at 13:30 is exactly why I no longer use dyneema for shooting line. Been there, done that. Seems to work great for rollers but I've tried the rollers, standard is the way for me. May change my tune when I get to try an inverted roller though.
What an edit and trip!! So many prized fish, cool wrecks and happy spearos. Think you’ve just made UAE a spearos bucket list destination. Love the lucky shot on the lost gun amberjack, always getting into random mischief with my dive buddies coming to help. My work has taken me sooo many times to UAE. Well familiar with the drive between Dubai and Abu Dabi. Crazy how much has changed in the last 25yrs! Bahrain is a gas as well. Those boys go hard at everything from business, rugby to night life! I’ll have to add spearin to that ever growing list as well. Cheers!
Such a great video! Was fantastic to reminisce on my short stint working on an island off Abu Dhabi (Al futaisi) just over 10 years ago. I was surprised to see how similar the species there were to northern Australia. Managed a few small mangrove jacks, nice golden trevally off the beach and speared a few inshore fish. I also targeted 2 bar sea bream, found a monster and got the perfect kill shot, was stoked until I realised it was blind in one eye... Didn't see me coming! Glad to got to experience that part of the world it's coast and culture.

UAE is blessed with TWO coastlines: the Arabian Gulf AND the Indian Ocean side on the east coast. That's the one you need to see next time - during summer when all the Mahis invade the place.
The slippery Dyneema is probably your gloves being neoprene? I had this when using thicker gloves in winter... Usually, we use rubberized spearo gloves that are grippy as hell :)

Fantastic video again Dan...I finally got a chance to watch it. Congratulations on the great catches, they looked amazing!! My wife and I are planing a trip to Thailand next winter and I hope to be able to do some great diving there in some nice warm water....for once! (I'm from the west coast of Canada, so most of my diving is in a 5-7mm suit).

It was quite hazy but I’m told it was pretty good visibility for this area. Red Sea looks crystal!

@@DanielMann Yeaa and that isn't going away anytime soon. You can shoot one a day, 28-35in. Still a blast to hunt and we have plenty of tautog, bluefish, scup and fluke to keep us busy as well! Gotta do a New England trip mate!

great video once again. There are dyneema lines with polyester coating and I think that is why you felt it slipping so much.

Super lucky. Similar thing happened to me when a mate second shot a halibut with my gun. Swam off with it and then another mate found the fish and gun 45 minutes later!
