Tales of Arise - 15 Things You Need To Know Before You Buy

- After being announced at E3 2019 and pretty much disappearing until earlier this year, Bandai Namco's Tales of Arise is finally set to release on September 10th for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 and PC.
Quite a lot has changed since the last title in the series, from the visual quality and scale of the world to the combat and skits. Let's take a look at 15 things you should know before buying.
Played the demo last night and loved it, gorgeous visuals, fluid combat system, nothing is thrown in your face, great beast and location design, the characters have amazing views. Can't wait for the game to come out.
Phyconauts 2
Another JRPG on my list to buy. I already have Ys 9, FF7 Remake, Persona 5 Royals/Strikers. I'm getting this game and maybe Trails latest game.
yes all your list are almost the same my game list also
A list of great hits
Add Scarlet Nexus to that list
Cold Steel 3 & 4 are incredible. Especially 4. I think my first playthrough was 100 hours so be ready for a loonnngggg game lol.
Why would you buy persona five royale and not just The vanilla version of persona 5 The creators of persona five strikers have said strikers Take Place after persona five not persona 5 rolyal so any of the new stuff like characters new story or anything new from royale want is it in strikers. I am not trying to discourage you from purchasing either one of them I'm just saying you'll be wondering why isn't this character or this character not in the sequel. Reason why am saying not this character or this character and that telling you the names is so that it is not spoiler the game for u
I'm playing this day one
Same
Same tales games are always bangers it’s like persona you know it’s going to be good.
Very rarely do I buy games day one but tales is one of them, I wasn't a fan of berseria and Zestiria battle systems so this new style is a welcome one
Are you all playing it on current gen or next gen? Ps4 for me.
@@yeahyeahyeah688 both myself and my brother are going with ps5 I think, if it came to game pass we’d play it on the Xbox but I think we’re buying the deluxe edition, I’m a sucker for the outfits n stuff u can get lol
I’m so glad this isn’t going to be a trilogy, get expansions, or anything like that. Give me hope for complete story and experience.
Expansions don't me an incomplete story or experience. You seem to be confusing it with day 1 DLC, literally ripped out of the game.
wait was there a tales game that was a trilogy? I always thought every tales game was a one and done story
@@whatthe9256 no tales game had a trilogy (as far as I know) but Xillia had a sequel and Zestiria/Berseris take place 100 years apart. That didn't make them incomplete games though, so no idea what that guy meant.
@@shirokusanagi3901 tales of symphina also had a sequel
@@shirokusanagi3901 1000 not 100
Honestly, I always look forward to fight cameo characters from previous Tales of games. Especially with that new, modern and serious art style I'm eager to see how some characters from older games may look like :)
Can't state enough how hyped I am for this game!
My silly self was expecting a demo for the Steam version.
I wish we could get a remake of tales of symphonia in this style
tales of symphonia: dawn of the new world (my favorite, loved beeing able to have monsters as partners, that could evolve too)
Vespiria would he so good in this style
I can’t imagine arise would not have a new game plus. They are kinda synonymous with tales games, my favourite playthroughs are almost always new game plus ones, aside from the first enjoyment of the story.
is there a proof that they will not?? they probably added them after release update ..
So the grade system is removed?
@@yuriwolfvt It wasn't removed in the demo. After each battle you got grade, so i assume, New Game+ is still a thing.
@@Ultimabuster92 I heard that this time around Grade is rewarded by doing exploration. certain things in the world will reward grade, which will be used in the New Game+. It is not completely removed but tied to something else instead, this rewards the people who decide to explore every nook and cranny.
they could never get rid of the grade system. It's such a staple of the series and gives replayability.
This is my first tales game. Looking forward to it
Same
you're going to love it!
@@MoezZist I hope so 😊
You have a ps4 go get the others now
@@clintjackson7359 sadly you need a PS3 to play most of them as not many of them are available on PS4/5.
Right now I'm currently replaying tales of xilla/xilla 2 so very much can't wait to play arise.
Tales of Xilla was my introduction to Tales of!!!! They're so damn good
The game looks really good, It would be cool to get some non human characters, seems like the norm these days, anybody remember Repede?
I'm expecting someone from Vesperia to make a cameo, probably Yuri if so but Repede could be with him. As a wish I'd like to see Ludger show up again
@@exile1373 really? has that happened before?? only time i remember stuff like this happening is past characters being fashion attachments
@@MultiFunkyjunk Ah, no Ludger hasn't had a cameo battle. I just meant like to see Ludger again in general
Agreed. I want more tales with more than just human-looking races. Like maybe Beastman or Lizardman races. I'm aware of the Gajuma in Tales of Rebirth but I need more.
@@exile1373 Ludger secret boss would be epic
The demo will be out on August 18.
Really??????
@@thegschannel5283 yep.
Gonna have to pre-order the ultimate edition for the PS5 which I finally was able to get ahold of. 😊
Good for you 👍
@@monsterking1910 Thanks.
Gonna point one piece of info in this video that is wrong: as far as artes go you can only slot in 1 arte to the ground and 1 in the air per button for 3 of the face buttons (the last button is a jump button by default if i'm right), you can not slot in 3 different ones on the air or ground to 1 face button, as such you will only have 6 artes (3 air, 3 ground) at the beginning and then the devs said you'd later get an item that allows you to slot in 1 more to each (likely by holding another button like L1 + the face button while on the ground or in the air like Vesperia, Xillia, Hearts R do with the Artes Ball item)...the way you're describing it is how arte trees work in Graces F, Zestiria, and Berseria which from everything they've shown so far the system for Arise and the arte menu in particular will not be the system they're going with this time. Closest comparison i can think of is Star Ocean's Close and Far system where the attack you use changes depending on your distance from the enemy (think Eternal Sonata, developed by Namco, also used a similar system though the change was based whether or not your character was in an area with light or an area with shadow) but using ground and jump to differentiate which arte comes out instead of how far you are from the enemy. Granted this is based off of all the videos showed so far so unless you've gotten the game yourself and the slots go further than what they showed off it should be as i described as above.
Man as a fan of the tales series really enjoyed playing most of them especially Xillia, Xillia 2 and Beseria. This new tales looks so new and different from the past tales cant wait to play this one.
Newbie to this and I’m definitely buying looks amazing
Same here. I actually just started playing Genshin Impact. This reminds me of it, except not having to spend real money in game haah
The "Tales Of" series has always been really solid. There are some that are bad, but I've always found them to be far outnumbered by the good ones. Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Vesperia, and Tales of Berseria were all very good, and while I haven't played it personally I've heard plenty of people say that Tales of Symphonia was really good. So while I can't gaurentee tjis one will be good, chances are quite good that it will be.
@@EndanDrachon symphonia is the best story wise
Little Nightmares 2
Scarlet Nexus
Tales of Arise
Damn Bandai are on a role!!
LET’S GET THOSE DEVIL ARMS!!!!
I’ve never played a tales game. I preordered this because it just looks so cool. I hope it’s good 😩
Your in for a great time. Tales games are one of the best jrpg franchises
@@prabhneeksohi5451 Is this game multi-player? Can I play with my friends online?
@@zackd2852 unfortunately no tales game has had online multilayer in the past and the same is most likely in this case. However they have been multiplayer locally in the past and this should be no exception.
I was the same as you about a year ago. Never heard of this franchise. I purchased "Tales of Berseria" because it was on a discount and i was in the mood to take a chance on a JRPG that i've never heard of. I am legit excited for this game after playing the demo. I feel this will be a modern JRPG masterpiece. Strong art style, lovable characters, charming dialogue, awesome music, and, extremely fun combat. Each character plays uniquely, Shionne and Rinwell being my favorite to play as. And I'm usually a melee or tank in most games.
I might take the week off from work just to binge this game to completion.
So happy this game is getting haptic feedback! The haptic is all i dreamed of and after getting it its amazing i wasnt let down at all. And this game has it im so jazzed
Must be nice to own a ps5...
@@Rohgamu i dont wanna be that guy. And i was very lucky... But yes. Its amazing. To me it was worth even paying the slightly higher price. The controller is unreal
I did not feel any haptic feedback, or my dualsense just broken..., are there any use of adaptive triggers too?
This is one game I'm paying the entire new asking price for
60 on all consoles
Look very interesting.
Of course, I still need to finish playing Symphonia, Vesperia, Beseria, and Zestria.
technically you don't because they all take place in different universes and settings with different characters.....
except Berseria and Zestiria, that's an exception where both take place in the same universe.
It doesn't matter what order you play Berseria or Zestiria though, it makes sense either way.
Well i need to finish hella games lol...i gotta backlog this to sadly...so many games that come out i cant keep up 🤦

I'm at that part in Vesperia when the party is looking for the party member that was kidnapped. Very late game, and I found interest in another game so I stopped playing. I wish they could have fixed a free run mode as a control option.
Only just found out about this, 4 days before launch so ima do some research and see its worth me buying
At least this one looks like it has an actual budget.
I think it looks incredible. Actual next gen
Your right it's looks PS4 instead of PS3 lol
I'm getting that collector's Edition for sure!
I can't wait any longer damnit
Me either, and I am getting it on steam to sub for not having a PS4/5.
Just play call of duty that'll quench your thirst for a beautiful, open world rpg. Hehehahahoohoo
Just buy It! Tales series are awesome!
Im really at the edge of pre-ordering it. It looks amazing, but feels like most of the JRPGs improves a lot as the months goes by via quality of life improvements.
Get it. In terms of story, tales games have some of the best. I love persona, but games like tales of vesperia and symphonia out class persona
@@dangelojenkins4296 Ya...Persona does do more out there stories but when it comes to quality i think the Calendar system actually hurts the series more so than helps it by slowing it down and creating tons of pacing issues just to get through each month, usually via mundane tasks (only good side content is character related bonding events imo)...ironically P5 Scramble has a better execution of its story imo due to no calendar system but i like it less than P5 only due to the combat (and i like action combat more than turn based...it's just the weakness system feels to unbalanced by being OP for whoever's using it, enemy or yourself, and then the SP regeneration they go with is horrible for an action game, at least for 3/4ths of the game until you get better skills...until then you're completely reliant on items or the watered down combo ender versions of the spells that deal 1/10th of what the command menu version does in damage, if they at least made it every hit or every 3 hits always regened at least 1 or 2 SP this problem would not exist.
Then on the other side you have Tales/Trails which have their stories more focused on getting throught he story without forcing too many interruptions (every day in the calendar in P5 basically is a forced interruption once you finish the story for said chapter/month and you more or less spend hours on either character events or grinding for levels/gear) and all side content is optional to go find (view in the case of skits). Tales also, imo, does character development better (in fact Tales Skits are, imo, the best character development/world building tool every used in gaming as they're all optional and fairly short but with their number flesh out each game drastically when all are watched. And i'm considering bonding events, side quests, and so on while making this assertion) by using the skit system to flesh out the characters as much as possible as well as the world while also giving them the necessary background info and development of each character in the main scenario of each game and they still continue with more forms of character/world development via the side quests that mostly wind up just being scenes that mainly focus on some aspect of the world's lore or a character's past with sometimes a reward at the end (new weapon, arte, mystic arte, title, etc).
And while the stories in Tales can at times be lackluster (i'm talking about actual subject matter here, such as what's going on in the game) almost all the games have had solid writing (as in being able to connect plot points well, proper grammar and that sort of crap, connecting each arc logically, and so on)...with only Zestiria and vesperia being an exception of bad writing (Zestiria has all of it being the issue while Vesperia mainly has Act 3 and connecting each arc logically as it's issue...though that's enough to drop Vesperia to bottom 3 of all main Tales games that I've played (which is all but the japan only releases)...unfortunately for Vesperia story comes first and then gameplay and it loses 3 points alone out of 10 due to the story (I afford story 5 points out of 10...Vesperia only got 2 cause Acts 1 and 2 were interesting and the characters were great...though Yuri's a bit too much fo a Gary Stu that faced little to no repercussions for his actions which i didn't particularly like and didn't evelop at all)...besides story Vesperia aced everything else so it's a 7/10 game for me).
@@ifrit1937 Don't know about skits being the 'best character development tool in video game history' and it seems given your comparisons you only considered other JRPGs(I don't get the impression you play RPGs.) and not really any other type of game.
These are games ultimately, it might be easier to tell your story when much of your game is non interactive and linear but it's certainly not the only way of doing it and often isn't the priority. Each development team decides what matters for their game and players decide what they want from their games.
Don't know about giving Vesperia a 7/10 if it's story's bad. I've been playing through it and so far it's nearly entirely non interactive cutscenes and linear areas that try to funnel you into as many battles as possible, one every few metres or so until your next cutscene. I'm also not at all enjoying the combat, feels slow, unresponsive and awkward. Seems like it's meant to play like a fighting game. The menus are awkward to navigate and unintuitive as well and it seems the tutorial section of the game is endless. Quests seem very straightforward, they really spell everything out for you. Basically just walk where you're told to active the next cutscene. The focus so far has been entirely cutscenes. So if the story isn't good, I don't see how the game is.
I had similar feelings towards the early section of Final Fantasy 9 with it's terrible menus, absurdly (14+ h) long tutorial and constantly forcing you into battles. But I found progression through that game much more interesting, the game asked you to explore, experiment and see how to reach or achieve your next objective and there was a lot of stuff to find while exploring, interesting characters, events, puzzles. There was a lot more to do than watch cutscenes and be forced into repetitive encounters.
Ultimately, it just feels like you're a fan of the tales game. Just like any fan of any other game, and of course your favourite does everything best.
Woah, I didn't know I edited this! Wicked!
I watched this knowing every info about the game xD but seeing this type of video makes me so excited its so soon! I can't wait 😭❤ game looks stunning!
The gameplay looks phenomenal, I just hope the story lives up to the old heights

If you develop the relationship with your team, you get some cool story/cutscenes.
I did the inverse, Yuito first then Kasane.
I completed it 4-5 times and I still play it.
The desert Calaglia instantly reminded me of the desert from FF12
I tried the demo yesterday. JRPG of the year!
Beautiful visuals...what an art! Game is excellent, story is woow! Characters...well everything!
Dana. Raina. Long ago, the two nations lived together in harmony. Then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.

Too much cutscenes for me, is this going to be the same thing as scarlet nexus?
Excited for this one. My first tales game was symphonia and I've been hooked ever since
The visuals of this game are the most beautiful
I miss the crazy air combos from Tales of Hearts R. I stopped playing when the save data crapped out and took a permanent vacation. Gall was one of my mains.

@gamingbolt you are wrong about grade its still in the game but is only given to you based on exploration in the maps and how many of the secrets or treasures you uncover
Hope we get a coliseum and a chance to fight characters from past tales games. Would be sick to fight sorey and velvet
Who?
Every single tales games has 2 worlds always at ends, fighting each other for some dumb reason usally due to resources running out, and of course I will be getting this game as well.
Yep that's a tales game finally worth getting ...
Abyss, Symphonia, and Vesperia are all worth getting as well. Same can be said about a couple of the other newer ones as well. Phantasia has been fantastic so far for my first playthrough of it.
vesperia, graces, xillia, symphona and berseria all great games
I hope the Cameo Battle in the coliseum will be a 4v4 Battle ala Tales of the Abyss!
Awesome succinct review. So complete. Thank you!
Glad this game is on the xbox one as well cause I don't have enough money for series x or s
As a day one tales of fan for year's since early middle school, this series has stopped me from making kid's so I can have uninterrupted time too 100% said games and get lost in the stories.
lol dude, i feel ya. Love my kid but rip my gaming time...

my biggest fear is that there once again, like in berseria, will be no real dungeons. the dungeons in past entries where sometimes pretty boring, sometimes nice. i so hope dungeons will be a focus again.
my hype is too much i cant contain it
My question is, when I get later party members will they stay long enough to max out skills or will I have to grind in areas before they leave and Combe back
I guess it’s a story question but I hope I get every party member in the first 1/4 or 1/3 of the game
1 thing you need to know is that it’s the best game of the 8th gen.
Been preordered. Can't wait.
hopefully stahn will make appearance in this game as a secret boss
Played the demo for some reason I was not digging the battle system it felt very spammy and not really any layer of strategy as far as I could tell. I learned that I could easily spam aerial artes without even taking any damage and able to restore the gauge simply by standing still😒 not exactly any incentive to mix things up felt cheap but its definitely flashy I'll give it that.
Tales of Berseria was also very flashy and spammy. I honestly don't see much of a difference here. I haven't played the demo, (no console) but based on plenty of footage I like what I see, as I enjoyed Berseria thoroughly. I honestly don't think demos are very indicative of the final product quality, and by that I'm referring to the skills you get to use and so on, which can make combat a lot more fun. Plus you actually get to play the whole story and have complete control over how you alone play the game.
Do we know if loot is going to be a thing? New wepons and armour and all that? If so, i think I'm sold...
The skits part reminds me of Scarlet Nexus. Looks like they're taking advantage of that feature here
I've gone through the demo. They actually really hurt to look at and feel super lifeless.
So…. if you’re good we’ll let you get great but if you suck we’ll make sure you’ll always suck?
Get this to hold me off till Elden Ring
Hell yes!!! Super excited for this on PS5!! Pre ordered the ultimate edition
*Is there a previous game k should know of??*
rammus voice: ok.
now they improved the skits from just dialogue with animation make them more lively
Have you done this video before playing the demo?
It'd be cool to have a tales game that is set in a more modern world (xillia 2) again.
I also loved the idea of using monster in battle like symphonia 2. If not, a world of non human characters would be cool.
Arise definitely has modern elements since one planet seems to have the technology to rule over the other.
I'm definitely going to play this on Remote Play to my PS Vita, just like I did the Tales of Zestiria! Hahah!
i have all the tales of CE but this is where i draw the line, it would cost like 300$ CAD to get it 😅
Tales games are so hit or miss this looks like it might be one of the good ones
This will
Be my 3rd Tales game. Haven’t played them in a lonnnng time.
Im still fighting urge to cancel my pre-order. Visuals are nice but characters feel so anime and generic and combat didnt really do anything. Should play demo one more time tonight or tomorrow and decide if i keep it or cancel.
Huge step up for Tales of series, though.
This sounds and looks amazing.
Only thing i need to know is what clothes to wear when i go to town and get this beautiful game.
Day one buy
Super super dumb question, but is there an English release? I don't even care if all the VA work is still Japanese, I just want to be able to read the game.
Definitely be getting this on Christmas
Its fantastic u get to pick out of the 6 characters to be ur main awesome ok I am sold.
It's amazing how wrong you are as you said that it wasn't going to get any kind of expansions but yet two years down the line it's getting an awesome looking DLC
Main characters toting a great sword. Nuff said. Buying.
Just preordered it I guess I’ll watch this video now
Only thing that bugs me is the small little transition into battle i kinda wish it would just start kinda like ff7 remake
But its not FFVIIR
This is how the Tales series is.
Keep it from u til the game comes out they often gives u a few goodies when u get the fully game
As a long time fan, this looks very promising. I understand why they make you purchase costumes as DLC but I'm just hoping for more in game costume's than berseria.
finally someone cover a combat side of the game
Yup and it saved me $60
Will they release a ultimate edition upgrade since i just got base game it wont let me upgrade
Hope the Collab Pack has something to do with Hololive with Takanashi Kiara being the ambassador
My only complaint right now is 3 ground arts and 3 air arts, really Namco? I’m sure you will be able to have 12 arts later on in the game, it will be 6 ground and 6 air arts. Guys I don’t hate the game, in fact I purchased it on Steam already and played the demo too, I just don’t like that they are limiting you really bad. Tales of Graces f allowed theoretically up to 32 arts. I can’t even do 16 in this game, it’s safe to conclude that this is for newcomers, I think they said that too.
I can't remember how many they said there were but they limited the amount just for the demo
@@ht-xz8ei I sure hope so.
I already pre-ordered the deluxe edition!
It is Bandai Namco so I am going to wait for the Complete Edition with its 70+ pieces of DLC
code vein still does not have any complete edition the same goes for tales of berseria so no.
Uh...i don't think i've ever seen Namco release a complete Edition for a Tales game...ever. Closest would be Vesperia DE but that's only because it was based off a enhanced version that was PS3 only that was released over a decade ago which was never localized and they finally decided to localize it now.
And ya other people mentioned other games such as Code Vein and then there's games like Eternal Sonata which only released an enhanced version with more content on PS3 only a while after the Xbox360...so unless they release an enhanced version for PS6 or 7 and the Xbox/Nintendo equivalent system you'll be waiting a very long while for an enhanced version...if said future version isn't just a direct port with no enhancements.
Same with Ni no Kuni 1 and 2 if i'm right.
So outside of the Deluxe version of whatever game you can think of by Namco (which came out on release and is permanent like any other Namco Deluxe version, which do go on sale btw sooner or later...especially during Golden Week) you don't really see any other new versions anymore...especially since Deluxe versions more or less do what enhanced versions do and stay on the storefront practically forever and have their own sales thus making enhanced versions obsolete. Only real exception i can think of is cases like FFVIIRI, FFXVRoyal, P5R, Fairy Fencer F ADF, etc...and none of these are Namco properties. And honestly outside of remakes or complete overhauls made due to some sort of issue with the game where the entire combat system had to be overhauled (Tales of Graces comes to mind as the Wii version apparently had many issues which was the reason Graces F was made on the PS3 and they decided to add in the whole after story on top of it while they were at it...probably to calm some anger about the Wii version) or cause the combat was dated Namco almost never makes enhanced versions outside of when they port it to a new console after the initial console had lackluster returns (case with Eternal Sonata and Vesperia releasing on Xbox360 first and then later on PS3 with additional content). Enhanced versions seems more of a Square Enix or Gust/Koei Tecmo/NISA/any fighting game out there thing more so than a Namco (especially jrpg) thing. Maybe the Namco fighting games have some but from what i've seen they've mainly done multiple DLC packs rather than enhanced additions for a while now and generally don't do a 'buy all the dlc packs in one bundle' kind of thing that often or at all...they might put all of them on sale at the same time separately but that's about it.
They will do the release multiple editions at once on release BS though...like the Complete Edition with 70+ DLC will be the Digital Tales of Arise Ultimate Edition that they announced...you're not getting any better edition than that most likely and best case sceneario for you just wait for the Golden Week jrpg sales next year (pretty much around April or May if i'm right) and you'll be able to get said edition from anywhere between 15 to 30 bucks off (so about 30 to 40 US dollars). Any other dlc they release that isn't in said version You'll likely need to buy separately.
Almost all the dlcs are usually shit anyway like butler outfits lol
Went to Bandai store and bought the collection hope it’s worth it 😊
