Heathkit power supply upgrade and restoration

Heathkit power supplies such as the HP-23/A/B/C and PS-23 are ubiquitous, but the dried-out can caps can lead to failure or worse. This video covers the upgrade of a power supply using W8AOR's upgrade kit found here: www.ebay.com/str/scottyssleds.... The can caps are replaced with electrolytics that mount on four individual PCBs and in my opinion are an improvement over the after-market boards that mount on top of the chassis. I'm upgrading an HP-23A here, but this can be applied to any HP/PS-23 power supply.

Just picked up a PS like that one at a local “junk store” and I plan to restore it. EBAY had a “kit” to restore the power supply. Bet it’s
Iike the kit you used.

Hya, what a great job - thank you for documenting this. I think our mains wiring may be a little more stringent than yours, here in New Zealand, a knotted power cord inside a chassis is illegal. Happy new year sir.

A power supply that old it would be expected to have newer caps. if you leave the sleeve off it will be obvious that it was restored. It will not affect the value at all it's value will be to someone who knows about the rig and wants it for being restored. different from Harbauch mods
