I have removed 100's of the rear discs from ZJs & KJs.
You need the specialty e brake cable tool for the KJ but a 13mm will work on the ZJ.
Discount the e brake cable from the backing plate & slip the boxed in part over the end & spring. Then just work it out. Bring a 13mm ratchet wrench. It tackles alot of bolts used.
I highly suggest a electric impact.
My best time was 30 minutes to remove a complete set.
I've only broken 5 or 6 of the center bolts. All of them have been 5/16 or 1/4.

I got near-perfect backing plates with 4 bolts behind them off a 97 Grand at the junkyard and brand-new calibers off a 95 (same junkyard) this past week. I need to go back to see about getting the lug bolts and as far as the portioning valve, I only need the spring right? Forgot that part too. I have a ZJ that i am trying to figure out what rear end is in it cause i wanted to do brakes and there are so many choices. It has drum brakes in the rear. Can you suggest a good place to look for markings or tags that would be on the jeep that would tell me what rear end is in the jeep? Any help would be most appreciated, i don't trust what the auto parts stores say it is.

At some point I'm gonna realise that I'm not motivated enough to do an axle swap ( or funded enough ) like I should and I may just do the brake conversion on my D35 on 35's. I know the jokes write themselves.

brother, with that comment you are "right on the money" lol. he was only asking $250 for the D44 so I had to get it. Beach Jeep is gonna need the extra strength when the weight of the 3rd row is added 💪

it wasn't heated enough to loosen rust but not enough to distemper them. If was glowing red the maybe, but it could always be re tempered by heating it and quenched in oil
