This vid is 11 years old and I have a mallet as I made that one, I have a clamp rack as I followed yours. This channel is the best woodworking channel as Steve shows how to make things, not hey! see what I made? Your channel made woodworking achievable, not out of reach. I'm going back to all your vigs on building. Thank you for all your work
It was so weird watching this without a gripper ad spot at the start of the video.
Very rare to find a woodworker that isn't old and boring.
I'm subscribing.
I had planed on buying a heavy beach mallet from woodcraft until i saw this video, i really like the idea of this type of mallet and I wish I had found your video series a long time ago. Your projects are simple but very nice looking and you are not pretentious like a lot of the "fine" woodworkers. You are down to earth and I like that. You have really gotten me excited for some projects. Thank you for doing what you do.
Love that tenoning jig. Sooooooo simple. :)
I'm enjoying "classic" Steve videos...
"by sand I mean cat litter."
Ah Steve, Steve, Steve... You are so unapologetically merely mortal in your approach. Please never change.
I like that idea!
This is the only channel in which I like the video before watching it. Great job!
I made this mallet over the weekend. I've been needing one and your video came at the perfect time. Thanks for posting it!
Have a nice time off....I appreciate your time spent showing me so much great stuff / ideas
I watched this video years ago. Recently I bought a bunch of new tools (axes, mattocks, chisels, etc) to give to my nephew and spent the day sharpening them all. There was just a ton of metal on the ground so I picked it up with a magnet and I've been sacing a small collection of metal powder wondering what the heck I could possibly use them for. Just now I remembered watching this video and remember that Steve weighted the head of his wooden mallets with metal. I never made a mallet before and so now I'm thinking I finally figured out a good use for all this!
Thank you Steve, I'm excited to put your techniques to use.
Steve,
Thank you so much for your video. I made my first Wood Mallet and know I'm hooked. I had a blast making the tool and look forward to making more.....
Cheers
Oldie but a goodie
You inspired me to create my own wooden mallet. The effect on my channel. Super movie. I'm impressed
So true, I love how happy and fun he is, im not that into woodworking but I really enjoy watching these
I'm just getting started in woodworking and your videos are a huge help. Thank you!!
I really appreciated you showing proper safety precautions when using your table saw. I can't believe how often I see really dumb stuff that people not only do, but feel free to post for the whole world to watch! Well done...
Want to see dumb? Search "spats bear table saw". I found it while looking up info on craftsman table saws and the poor information and practice by those two donkeys is only outdone by their sheer arrogance. Shockingly, they've disabled comments.
rochat And for frightening, watch those "how to turn a circular saw into a table saw by bolting it to some wood" videos that people make.
"I'll just turn this on by reaching under the table and putting my face near the blade"
'mere mortals', indeed...simplest explanation for a tool I've ever seen!
Thank you for always making it simple...
I like it! And, as much as I enjoy your sense of humor, this was fun having just a straight up presentation. You have a talent in presenting (with enthusiasm) woodworking both ways! I know this video is old enough to vote (in youtube years), but, two thumbs up!
You really make perfectly what you make..Your art is great ! I enjoy when i am watching you .Thank you ..
What a great video! Thank you for your instruction!
Thanks for another great project Steve. I hope to dive back into woodworking in the near future and your videos are always informative and entertaining. Have a great week off. You know what? Take two!
Don't you just hate trolls. \/ that guy. Lol love the simplicity. I was going crazy trying to figure out how to get a slanted square whole in the middle. I'm a disaster with chisels. Thanks again
I like the added weight from the hollows. Good idea I may make one of these :) Thanks again Steve.
Beautiful Steve!!
This is the first mallet I have seen that I like. Good job.
Steve, here is yet another great project to do with the kids.
That's a really awesome video! Thanks for sharing your wisdom and experiences with us Steve!
It's amazing!!!! Congratulations.
Gee thanks... As if I didn't have enough projects already awaiting my attention, it looks like I'll be adding this to my "to-get-to-soon" short list. I've been in the market for some decent [yet inexpensive] mallets. My search has come to an end. Thank you sir.
Steve ,you have some great skills!! Love the vid!!
nicely done, love your videos, they relaxing to watch while picking up some tips, and some laughs. Keep it Steve!!!
Very entertaining as usual...Thanks again Steve.
Thanks man! Just made my first one, and it turned out perfect! Will make a few more just for fun!
As usual an awesome learning experience ,,thanks Steve
Got to make me one of those, thanks for the video.
nice mallet if you go to a garage and ask for scrap wheel weights they work really well.you don't have to melt the weights all you have tou do is break them apart to fit in your mallet.
Nice looking mallet...good job.
Nice instructional vid, thank you! :)
Planning to start making one this afternoon!
Great vid, Steve. Just to let you know, I've watched a ton of your vid's, and every time, I hit the "like" button before even watching. I just know that you do high quality entertaining work. Thx!
Thanks for the video....Have a good weekend Stranger...and if you are a Dad.... Happy Dad's Day...I am going to spend mine in the mountains (I am in Colorado) fishing for those pesky rainbow trouts~
If you leave a little space whilst installing the lead pellets/balls you can effectively make a dead blow hammer.
You deserve a vacation. Thanks for all you do.
Love this project. Have a nice youtube vacation.
Thanks for showing a way to make wooden mallets
This is a great video. 10 yrs old, and still chugging.
11 years now :-)
Nice work again Steve. I need a wooden mallet so I'm going to find time to do this. We'll miss you next week, enjoy. Thanks!
My father has one of those... for 10+ years, its still working great! :)
I like how the head is made with the sand or lead shot. That's basically how a plastic dead blow mallet works. It probably has very little bounce when you strike something and imparts almost all its force into the object. Very nice. Thanks for providing the video.
Steve, this a is an fun and excelent wood working project for us mere mortals. i made one after i saw this with a golden oak and maple handle and a maple and ipe head. then i used red oak wedges. the result is nice dark and light contrasted tool. very usefull also. thanks for the idea. keep the vids coming
Good project, nice outcome bud!
nice 1 mate. i already have a mallet but i love wood working so what the heck ill make another 1.
i love his camera angle it feel like I'm watching new yankee workshop again
Just made my first mallet, thanks for the tutorial. I didn't use any weights in the head but man it has some power in it regardless. Love the channel, keep up the good work.
-Newb woodworker
But even though it didn't make any difference in reality he does also explains what he does and that you yourself could use BBs if you want to. I cant figure out why there are so much bad critics at this mans channel, he does a good job and on top on that he is positive and entertaining. THUMBS UP Steve ;)
This is great Steve.
I liked your tenon jig
This is a great project I made it with my new table saw and it only took 2 hours thanks!
awesome truly what a nice project with a really usable tool...great job with your video. Thank you!!!!
I honestly thought that was a litter box you were using to fill the mallet with, and quite honestly, with your sense of humor, I would no have been surprised if it were. Haha, great video Steve!
Very Nice, I'll have to make one. Thanks for showing this.
Great plan and how-to, WWMM! I'm a newer subscriber but found this 'classic' video! I couldn't rummage up a sufficient "heft" of lead fishing weights, so I piled in a stack of 1 1/2" washers, with a few daubs of epoxy between and around.. (also considered a stack of our Canadian dollar coin Loonies, but I'll save it for my 2.0 version down the line!). Thanks for these oldies, and all the new videos, too! Stay safe.
That was nice. Thanks, Man.
Another great video, have a good holiday Steve
I am so going to make this. You have terrific Ideas.
Great video!
Thank's steve nice mallet all the best john.
Pretty awesome job, dude!
Good new Mjölnir , Thor !!
Simply , it´s perfect .
Best Tenoning jig ever, I think I almost died laughing at how awesome it was, and the fact that it totally worked.
Great video as always have fun on your break :)
I built a router table based on your videos and appreciate your efforts. Thanks!
Cool project. Enjoy your week vacation
Very nice!!
I once saw an article ina a magazine telling that the little fishing weights are used not only to add weight, but also to keep the mallet from knocking back. These kind of malled are known as dead blow mallets.
Anyway I loved the video as usual! Cheers from Brazil!
i liked how you incorporated leather for the mallet head
really helpful
Man ... You are the best
Awesome man 😮
Thanks for the video and have a nice week off. You really earnd it.

Now I can make all the mallets I need

You deserve it!

I've been wanting to make a couple of mallets but just haven't run into a design I liked. This one I liked, thanks.
