    Fell in love with it when it first came out as an LE, but of course missed out on it. Was able to get in on the 2022 batch (went with a salmon+BOR bracelet) and I enjoyed it greatly. Sold a Samurai that I fell out of love with to fund it and it was totally worth. A lot of other similar watches on say, Aliexpress use the same movement but the MR01 is the only one that pulls it off with just the right proportions and design. There's just something about the small case that really gets me.
    I do wish they contoured the case a little more so it wasn't so blocky, but it does give it some much needed presence too. The non-hacking bugs me when setting the time, but apparently Hangzhou already had so much trouble putting together a micro-rotor movement this small for this cheap that they couldn't manage to fit hacking in anymore.
    With this and the new 38mm Seiko 5KXes, us small watch enjoyers are eating real good these days.

  • @SoXFireBlade
    @SoXFireBlade Před rokem +18

    I was fortunate enough to visit the dealer in Paris which was really the coolest dealer you can find with their laid back atmosphere and homey feeling. I ended buying the MR01 with blue dial and to be honest I wouldn't mind it to get even smaller maybe at 35mm or 34mm. these watches look better when they are smaller but then again i'm accustomed to wearing smaller watches and my wrist is small.
    The issue with modern vintage style watches is that they are always large and defeat the purpose of buying a vintage looking watch. but with baltic you get the same dimensions without the vintage mechanical issues and this is my i'm leaning towards microbrands at least the vintage inspired ones.

    I bought this as wedding watches with my wife in blue and salmon. She does not wear jewellery but I could convince her to get a watch. This one is special enough to stand out from the crowd and being a bit special without breaking the bank. I am surprised how good it looks in different situations. While it’s not a tool watch it’s not only for dressy situations. It’s perfectly fine to wear to the office. She also loves seeing the movement which is better looking than a Miyota or Seiko movement. It does rattle a bit and mine had an issue when we first got it. But Baltic quickly fixed it and it’s been keeping time very well.
    I agreed with you about the bezel but it has definitely grown on me and I find myself staring at the watch with a smile on my face every day I wear it. And is that not what this weird hobby is all about?

      Just curious what straps you use with this? I struggle to find the exact right colour or texture and keep bouncing around. I would say that in addition to the beads of rice style, I do think a Milanese strap looks pretty good with this, but again... yeah... I do not find that the Salmon goes well with any of the browns. Am looking to play with some green, but it needs to have some texture otherwise I find that a clean fresh new leather watch strap just doesn't seem to want to fit with the more "vintage" aesthetic.

Often times, pulling the crown out would not allow me to change the time, pushing it back in was somewhat gummy and soft feeling, and turning the crown to adjust the hands wouldn’t do much until a certain point was reached and then the gears would mesh. I had heard similar stories from others and from what I hear Baltic is actually quite happy to take the watch in and go over it for warranty problems like this. Boxed sapphire will bump up the price considerably if they decide to put one because of the production cost and labor cost to fit the crystal, but a boxed mineral glass is still a better choice compared to hesalite. • @jonathanlau6964
    @jonathanlau6964 Před rokem

    I bought both the silver and the salmon. My biggest issue with these watches other than the microrotor being not only loud and a bit "sticky" and not smooth at winding (needing a bit more aggressive shaking), is that I do find that the lugs are a bit disproportionately wide. I am a "carpenter of children" so my understanding of design is a little bit limited, but I still do think if they narrowed the lugs a bit, the whole design would be just a little bit more elegant. It would create a bit more of a visual taper that to me would just make the whole case look a bit more elegant where as the lack of narrowing makes the whole case seem just a bit "fatter" like most of my patients with bowed legs. I just feel like the lug width for a 36 mm case should either be an 18mm or at least the dreaded 19 mm. Keep up the great work!

    You hit the nail on the head - I was about to buy one last year, but the flat wide bezel prevented me. Either making the dial 1mm bigger, or rounding out the bezel (or stepping if you want to be pp5070 fancy) would have made this watch look a lot better. With these microbrands you're paying for the design, so something as obvious as this is a no-no.

    It can't always be about style, though, can it? Because style is just surface, with the same movements, and then you get like King Seiko, pumping out a dozen of the same-looking watches with just pigment variations in the dials. Assembly-line watches. That's one example, but I'm sure everyone can cite thousands of other instances of sameness. It is the path to boredom. That MR01 from Baltic has a micro-rotor. Amazing! And it appears to be regulated, which I don't recall you mentioning in the video. Does that make this a chronometer-like watch? If so, then the price makes this a remarkable and collectible item.
    Some people like Seiko's Dolce dress watches because they have high accuracy quartz movements that rate at +/- 5 seconds per year. For their price, which is similar to the MR01, that is an incredible achievement. High accuracy quartz isn't quick and easy to produce. I don't like how they look or feel, but what it does and what it accomplishes inside is what counts.
    EDIT: Nevermind. Turns out the movement in the MR01 is garbage and they should be ashamed for putting "regulated for 5 positions" right there on the bridge.

    As someone who has been collecting watches for more than 4 decades, I would say that the only thing that could make this perfect is if it were 34mm. That would complete the "retro" look and it would be perfect on my 7 1/2" wrist.

    Just fell for the hype. Got my hands on the salmon dial today. Definitely not worth the price. Maybe a bad comparison but Seiko makes better watches at this price point. MR01 Watch is flimsy and puny. I definitely prefer micro brands but not happy with the quality and finish. Sorry.

    Ended up returning mine. IMO felt it wore smaller than it’s 36 diameter. With its size,it just all seemed too cramped on the dial which is a shame because I enjoy the aesthetic of it.

    I put two bad scratches on my MR01 as soon as I got it. I couldn’t get them out with any of the common methods. Baltic won’t send me a crystal and wants I think 120 euros for me to send it back to them for a new crystal and service. I haven’t had the watch a year yet.
    These two scratches are so bad it leaves shadows on the dial. Horrendous to look at and horrible plan to fix.

    I bought two of these because I couldn't decide on the color. But upon receiving them I was immediately disappointed. The 36mm and thinness really was a turn-off on my 6.75" wrist. 36mm wouldn't be a problem but with the large bezel and case shape it just doesn't look right. My 37mm grand seiko has a much larger dial and feels so much better. This is truly one of those watches that is best in pictures or for a sub 6.5" wrist.

    What a crying shame. I would probably go for a 40mm.

    Great video. One data point - there are masses of vintage watches available for well under $1000, let alone $5000, equipped with the finest micro-rotor movements ever made. E.g. Buren, Hamilton and Universal Genève.
    So personally I'll stick with vintage as the Baltic looks incredibly overpriced to me in comparison.
    I recently picked up a 60s Hamilton Intra-matic with the world's very first micro-rotor movememt for $200. Servicing and parts weren't cheap at another $250 but for me it's special to have the original genuine article. Oh and it's 14k solid gold, not stainless steel.

      Good for you...what do we care...the 1960 intramatic was meant to be worn on ladies wrist due its dainty dimentions....the water resistance is none existing... has a plain boring dial. It has no display back to show off the movement.
