Sorry she married a gay guy; but, if they remained friends, maybe it wasn't so tragic. I am glad she married happily and had kids. I am glad she took the kids' health before her Career, and moved to Ireland. I am glad her Career flowered after. My guess is she was a good Soul with talent, and deserved all the accolades that followed; and a long career into her Old Age. I think her experiences gave her a peaceful acceptance of all that life holds, and that transferred into a presence that the Public enjoyed.
Question should be why would a 35 yr old gay man marry a 19 yr old girl? She was young, naive and in love? He was who knows? In denial? It didn't last long and they remained friends. So I guess it worked out OK.

Back then men were more feminine but they had to keep it secret. Men were more effeminate in the old days as they were breastfed longer (all that estrogen exposure at a young age) and they ate less meat and steroids. When I look at old clips from the 1960s and before men had higher pitched voices compared to today!!

Being gay was a death knoll for any budding actor and could get you jailed until the 1990s. Glad we are over that bias.
