My grandfather David Randall Campbell who was president of the North American Clan Campbell society from 1993-1996 just passed today. This song will be played loud and proud at his funeral. Ne Obliviscarus
God bless your family's loss!❤🙏❤
Im so happy to see so many campbell brothers and sisters!
I am a proud Campbell. My Dad the marine survived (3) tours of duty in Vietnam, earned (3) purple hearts, a bronze star with valor, and was recognized for valor by the South Vietnamese gov. twice. At his funeral the gun salute was nice, but when the (2) Gentleman broke out the bagpipes is when everyone lost it. To this day every time I hear bagpipes, it gives me the chills. What really took us all back was all the metals he earned but never spoke about.
Im happy to see so many of my fellow clansman here
I thought clansmen were only in America.

i am neither campbell nor scottish , i am from india but i listen scottish bagpipe music everyday, i love scotland , it's culture and history . thank you for sharing such a beautiful tune .
Im from Sri Lanka and I'm INDEED a Campbell and I have Scottish Ancestry from my great great Grand Father. Proud of my Campbell roots.
My friend, we are coming. Fun fact, Campbell's did not play this song. Our enemies did. It was a warning!
I like Indian folk music music and I'm a stuart campell.
So does my son.
Theres Indian bagpipe fusion music on CZcams.
The melodies and drum beats are the same pace qnd so the milenials have managed to create mash ups that fuse together.
Maybe look it up x
Ps. Like with the empire and some Indians who ended up with a bit of rich guys blood.
History and music is often written by the Victor.
But played and adapted by the survivors.
They were masochistic, unkindly and of their time the men of clans.
There were women and men who lead the tribes in peace for ages before all the kilts and war and bagpipes
Their harmony is weaved in.
Like their blood that was taken and made.

Well since it was not us who played it but our enemies whom used it as a warning call... id say it sends chills down everyone elses spine first. It lights a fire for me.

It is said the Iron Brigade of the US Army marched into battle at Gettysburg to this tune. They were one of the few northern units to achieve any kind of victory on day one of the battle.
one of the few respected northern units
Were a lot of them of Scottish descent? In any case, as an American Campbell through my grandma's family I'm proud to hear that about the troops that helped save the Union.

The Iron Brigade consisted of Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan regiments. I don't think a lot of Scots settled in that area, more Germans, Poles, and Scandanavians.
One regiment suffered 80% casualties at Gettysburg. I'm not sure why the choice was made to play this song. I think I remember hearing one of the ranking officers was a Campbell but I just quickly tried to find some info and failed to locate a Campbell.

Hey, we're victims of bad press....
My father always used to tell me about this song. Here I am at 30 listening for the first time and every hair on my body is standing straight. I feel like this is the last song I ever heard in another life. Cheers to my brothers and sisters.
The Union Iron Brigade marched into battle using the fife and drum version of this song at Gettysburg in 1863. That was the last song they heard for a lot of them.

♥️Hello brothers and sisters.
Warmest embraces to all my kinsmen ❤️
Grandmother was a Campbell in upstate SC. Many Scott’s and Scotch-Irish settled in the region around York, SC in the early 1700’s. The names are still prevalent.
It’s been interesting, to say the least, to read all the responses on this site...and for the first time ever, every last one of them. My ancestors were recruited to come here and given land grants in what was then the frontier, upstate SC, to act as a buffer and protection for the Lowcountry and its wealthy inhabitants, from the natives.
Oh yeah im in nc
My side of the Campbell of Breadalbane landed in Pennsylvania in 1600s
Being a Campbell myself, I'm from the Campbells of Breadalbane. Our Clan motto is: "Follow Me". There are others such as the Campbells of Argyll which were where all of the chieftains came from and the Campbells of Cawdor. The crest they show in this video is the Campbells of Argyll . Some of the things they have done is appalling, but other Clans are guilty of just the same appalling acts. But I digress. I had a friend that I haven't seen in years and she was very near and dear to me. She was straight off the boat from Scotland and her name was Shirley Ferguson, or at least her maiden name was. I immediately set about to befriending her and chatted her up about everything I could learn about the country I loved so much. When it came time for me to to tell her my name, I told her " I don't know if I should tell you or not, because I value you as a friend and because I don't want you to hate me for it". Her reply was, "Fred your silly, why would I hate you?" "I could never hate you". So I told her my last name and prepared myself for what I thought may be me getting beaten soundly about the head and shoulders. She looked at me and laughed and said "Fred what are you doing?" And I said "You don't hate me?" And she said "No why should I? Yes there is a lot of my countrymen and women who still harbor the old grudges". "But it's not like you were there when all of that took place. So to hate you for what happened all of those centuries ago is unfair". "It's unfair to punish you for something you had nothing to do with". And she smiled that beautiful smile at me and I told her "I love you. If you weren't a married woman and I was less than honorable, I would be chasing after you." She blushed and giggled and said "Fred your rotten, even though I'm older than you?" She was about 10 years older than I was at the time. And I said "Yes, that doesn't matter to me. It's who you are to me that counts." I sometimes wonder where she is now and I hope she is happy, healthy, and I'm sure she's just as lovely as the last time I seen her. Sorry I'm so long winded on that story, but I felt the need to share it.
@@lafalangeespanola4519 yeah, but we weren't the only clan guilty of it. Many others were guilty of atrocities just as we were. Macdonald's being one of the many.
@@lafalangeespanola4519 Check out the other clans, some very bloody things happened amongst numerous other clans as well. Far worse than the Campbells. Makes for some shocking reading. We won't massacre you today laddie. You are safe with us now. 😍
It's a shame that more modern people here in the States do not hold her opinion of things gone by.
Read the history. It was the English as usual that massacred glencoe. There was a few Campbells there who refused to cooperate, but they were simply following the orders of an engerlish general as the Campbell in actual charge refused to carry out the orders so was replaced at the last minute.
Fellow Campbell clansman here. I just watched a video about our history. Holy shit, lads! We have some bloody history!

Campbell of Argyle here. Very proud of my history and where i come from.
How beautiful! Glad to be able to claim that my ancestors used this as their song
Wow! This tune is so beautiful!.
My grandpa heard this while he and his comrades were pinned down on the beaches of Saipan in WWII and stuck under heavy artillery bombardment by Japanese Army troops. Marines and US sailor's were stuck, but a lone piper, apparently somehow with the US military but from the UK, got up and walked the beach with this tune on his pipes and was not killed. That encouraged a charge and the guys killed the troops on the opposite side of the sandbags because of this song.
greetings from the St John MTS. this may be the last thing I hear before I meet my maker Amen! get on line!

My great-grandmother was a Campbell who married a Wagner in Western Pennsylvania... The Campbells Are Coming to settle the matter... :)
My family is a sept of Clan Campbell, joined after one of my ancestors preformed “meritous service” to the reigning laird Campbell of argyll.
After a bit of research tonight, I've concluded that my McKellar ancestors are a sept of Clan Campbell. I always assumed we were from Keilor, Angus, after so many attempts to research my family name origins, this is what always came up on those dodgy sites that look like they are trying to sell you a fake coat of arms.
I found a map of the old clan areas when King James VI was around, clan Campbell owned the area just below Keilor, not far from it. Keilor was owned by Lyon.
Did research on my family tartan, turns out the yellow stripe in it is indicative of being a sept of Campbell.
So hell yes, its 3am but I've just found the song of my people.
A Campbell here, way over in Texas. I have to say this sends a chill down my spine. Love it.
Both are true of me as well. Well met kinsman. haha
I was born a Campbell and was once invited by the Duke and Duchess of Argyll to attend a Clan Campbell meeting.
It does the same thing to me
I'm a Campbell through my late gma, and I have many relatives on that side who live in Texas as well (though I live in Michigan.)
A Campbell from Philadelphia here.
Played at the march into Lucknow 1858 at the head of the British army, literally the Campbells WERE coming in the shape of General Sir Colin Campbell, later Lord Clyde-what a soldier-- drawing pistol and sword at the head of his army. He, of the Thin Red Line and uttered that immortal command - "there is no retreat from here men, you must die where you stand!"-
Apparently he changed his name from McIver (his father's) to Campbell in his teens.
@@maconescotland8996 McIver is a sept of Clan Campbell so no wonder he changed his name to Campbell.
Story time, lads! I'm connected to the mighty Clan Campbell through my grandmother on my father's side. I have several living relatives with Argyll as their surname. I can trace my heritage all the way back to the Marquis of Argyll (probably). My grandmother's family once owned a spot of land near Salt Lake City, Utah, until they were betrayed by one of their own. I can't recall exactly who did it, but one of my grandmother's relatives stole the documents to the land and sold the land from right under their noses. Today, the land is occupied by standard highway-side establishments; fast food restaurants, gas stations, and, of course, a highway. If I ever find out exactly who did it and where they live, you better believe I'm going to slap them with the all the might of our proud ancestors.
On an unrelated note, there's a saying in our family. "The Argyll Squeal is alive and well." The Argyll Squeal is my grandmother's signature scream that she emits whenever she sees a bug, rodent, or reptile that she didn't expect to be there. My mother and sisters have also inherited the Squeal. All the females in my immediate family hate spiders with a passion and will sooner scream bloody murder than look at one. My father and I are the designated spider killers in our family. Meanwhile, my father hates snakes and I hate wasps, but those are both tales for another time, lads.
I have never heard a more pleasurable tune !
Is this isn't played at my funeral, I'm not coming! I will get up out of that casket and walk away.
I just love that we had a song to warn people that we had arrived. Sláinte!

Brings back many memories of my Aunt telling us youngsters about our heritage. The Campbells are coming!!!
About two miles south of Gettysburg, Lt. Col. Rufus Dawes, commanding the 6th Wisconsin Infantry, had the regiment unfurl their colors and the fifes and drums begin to play in order to make a show when they marched into Gettysburg. Dawes remembered later that the musicians were playing *“The Campbell’s are Coming”* when they heard the sound of artillery fire and orders came down the brigade to march cross country in the direction of the firing. The brigade’s rendezvous with a deadly destiny had come. ~ D. Scott Hartwig

Yes whatever, but you and your kin are not welcome at Glencoe, treacherous bastards.
@Carlos Rodriguez hello Carlos ,it's old Scottish history mate, you may not understand it goes back to Jacobean times ,the Campbell's were on the English side ,in Scotland you were one or the other, most of the Highland clans were Scottish the Campbell's took the English silver and slaughtered their fellow countrymen,it wasn't an open battle.the McDonalds gave the Campbell's food and shelter and on the word of the English the Campbell's slaughtered their hosts while they were asleep,so you are one side or the other ,I am the other, have you ever been to Glencoe?
@Carlos Rodriguez no Carlos I'm not a McDonald, all I know about the massacre of Glencoe is that the Campbell's were working under the orders of a guy called Stair who ultimately represented king william.i don't know if Campbell's fought against English later on,but their deed at Glencoe gave them a bad name amongst the Highland clans.
@Carlos Rodriguez hi Carlos I don't think it's that bad anymore ,it's a bit of banter mostly,I heard on TV that there's a pub near Glencoe which has a notice above the door which says no Campbell's allowed, don't know if it's just a jokey thing, you ought to go to Glencoe if you can manage it, beautiful scenery and haunting feel about the place.
