    Thank you for the video. I just bought a '97 Yamaha Big Bear 350 4x4. I have never owned (or ridden an ATV) before. I'm learning about how to care for it. This video was very informative. With the help of a friend, we cleaned the carburetor to get it running.

    Hi all. The middle gear has the be filled until you can see the oil near the threads, (375-400 ML). The engine alone takes 2.9 liters and not 2.5L. If you fill 2.5L in the engine, your will only reach the low marking point on the dip stick. so its 2.9 liters with filter and 3.4 L with the middle gear.

    • @OffGridFreedom
      @OffGridFreedom  Před 3 lety +3

      Your welcome, regarding the oil, I used 0w40 in the video mainly because the atv was going to be running in cold weather so I choose 0w40 over the 10w40 that the manual call for. I have used 0w40, 10w40 and 15w40 in the big bear and have not noticed any differences, except once it starts getting below freezing out I always switch to a 0w40. I put a link to 10w40 as it was the best deal I could find on amazon at the time. Thanks for watching!

      @@OffGridFreedom It is pretty good, managed to get out and jack it up the other day and the swing arms got about 10meters of play in it lol. I think the bearing have evaporated 😂😂 so ill be fixing that as well. I want it ready for the snow but need a front shaft as well as its only 2wd at the moment. Parts are pretty scarse round here unfortunately.

    Does anybody know where the serial number for the rear diff is on the 1998 big bear 350 4wd? I have ordered the All Balls Racing rear diff seal and bearing kit from Partzilla and it has the wrong bearing. I sent it back and they sent another and it still has the wrong bearing. I talked to someone at All Balls Racing and he says that it is the right bearing. He thinks that the previous owner replaced the rear diff with one from different model. I don't think so because when I bought it, it was only 5-6years old so I don't think it was. I am trying to get in touch with the guy I bought it from but that was 18 years ago. I found on the Yamaha website what the serial number is for the rear diff but not where the serial number is. I can't see, I am going to try to clean it up some more and see if I can find it but any help would be appreciated.

    Hey I know this is an old video, but I just bought a 1990 big bear 350. Do you fill the middle drive gear up to the threads with oil? I know you said 1/2 a liter, but wanted to make sure it was full with enough oil. Thanks

    • @OffGridFreedom
      @OffGridFreedom  Před 2 lety +1

  • @trucks_n_tractors_6335

    Does that have a CVT trans or the old style high low 5 speed if it’s anything after the late 80s it should be just a 5 speed no high low the 90s didn’t have those second drain plugs or anything

  • @kubzy87

    I had a feeling this is where the filter was, it blows my mind that the shifting lever was welded on lmfao idk what to do

    • @OffGridFreedom
      @OffGridFreedom  Před 4 lety +1

      crazy if its welded on, makes changing a filter a little difficult. I've never tried oil changing mine without removing the shifter, its really the bottom bolt that gets in the way, maybe if its shifted all the way up in 5th you might have enough room to wiggle it out.

      @washburnco5308 Před 4 lety

      Well it does not start and it has not run in a long time and I am sure I will have to replace a few things but not sure what I am supposed to look at first I will probably have to clean out the oil tank

    • @OffGridFreedom
      @OffGridFreedom  Před 4 lety +1

      I would do a oil change and put fresh oil in it. Drain any old gas from the tank/carb, then fill it with new gas. If it was me I would buy a can of Seafoam and add some to the gas to help clean out the carb of any gunk that was left from the old gas. I'd also replace the spark plug. After that it should fire up and run, depending on how dirty the carb is, it might require removing the carb and cleaning it out with carb cleaner.
