  • Today at Ewetopia Farms, it was supposed to be shearing day, but it got canceled until this coming Thursday. So instead of showing you a video of sheep shearing as originally planned, we are going to spend our time today taking you around the farm and getting up close and personal with a lot of the various sheep on the farm.
    Sheep and sheep farming is our passion and we hope that the love we have for what we do is obvious to you the viewers. Our operation is a large scale, registered Suffolk and Poll Dorset sheep farm combining the best of pasture and confinement to manage the flock for maximum comfort, minimal stress, and producing a consistent, very high quality product. Our focus is on providing breeding stock for sale to other sheep producers. All our sheep are treated with the utmost compassion which I think will become evident as you join us on our daily rounds on our working sheep farm in eastern Ontario, Canada.
    I hope you enjoy this video. If you would like to follow along with us and experience life on a real live sheep farm on a daily basis, please subscribe so that you don't miss a single episode!
    Thank you for taking the time to watch! We love to hear from you so be sure to leave a comment as well.
    Thank you!

    Hi Lynn, Well I watched most of the video this morning. But in the last 10 minute I fell asleep. LoL, It wasn't boring I just couldn't sleep last night! I zonked out and had to come back this evening cause I needed my sheep fix!! I really love when the lambs and their mom come and seek you out for a good petting. That's what I love about my furry children, when they seek us & not the other way around. Can you imagine lying in bed with 5 kittens hopping on you & the bed while you slept. It's not annoying at all. Well not for me!❣🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🌴

      Yes, it is very rewarding when they seek you out. And yes, I can imagine kittens crawling all over the bed - been there LOL! Hope you caught up on your sleep. I have been having a tough time sleeping lately too!

    Good morning Arnie and Lynn. Yay an unexpected play day on the farm. The little guy in the jug starting to get with the program. He is your little Pokey of the season. He is aiming for the top now. Thelma and Louise are such good mascots for the barn. They are always on secret missions and they have mastered cuteness. The big boys are looking regal. And I am so glad you are keeping Monty he was really a star as a lamb. Now look at him. He is going to be a daddy. It will be funny if there is another son that sounds like his father. It is so relaxing to sit with the big boys. I can see why you like it. Such sweethearts. What a great day. Work got done with time left for sitting with the sheep. Luni is so perfect and you can’t beat her disposition. She will have some special lambies herself. Arnie and the sheep with white hair try have earned. 😂😂 Arnie seemed to enjoy this day as well. He is a softy with the sheep as well. Enjoy your day. You guys have earned it. Big hugs. 🥰🥰🥰

    Lovely video. I'm very much looking forward to the shearing.
    My ewes are starting to widen significantly, not sure if its the wool or impending babies, but I'm thinking that if you can see that they're a "wide load" from the rear, it's probably lambs.
    This morning my father declared that he's not - probably not - going to sell the house and kick out the five people who live here with him. As he's got dementia, that might not last, but we're coping as best we can.
    I'm definitely looking forward to the shearing video. It's satisfying to see the animal emerge, and to see the gorgeous fleece inside out, with the creamy white inner surface.
    When you evaluate the boys, to choose which two rams you'll use, will you record that? Might make a separate video on that, but I think it would be cool to sort of have some of the before-and-after of the boys prior to shearing, you might point out some of the features that you like, and after shearing, especially if you rule one boy out, or another one, what are the features that you can see on a shorn sheep that wasn't obvious on the fluffy ones.
    Just some food for thought. Thanks again for being a part of my mornings.
    We're having wave upon wave of bad weather. The good news is that it's likely we'll go from Extreme Drought to not-a-drought, and so hopefully our fields will recuperate from the destitution of the last few years of extreme drought. Yesterday hubby went to drive me to my doctor that I see every three months... he's 92 miles from our house. Frustratingly we got 82 miles on the journey before the weather got so bad we had to turn around and drive home again. We only use about a 4 mile stretch of the interstate and had a couple miles before reaching it, when the snow and freezing fog all got so bad that we had zero visibility and the plows couldn't keep up with the roads, then the power went out, and they had something like 6 crashes on that 4 mile stretch of the interstate so they had to close it, and you needed chains for the back roads. It was just insane. After we turned around (a couple of semis had run ins with regular traffic so we looped around the wrecks to return home).... the snow and fog got so bad that we probably couldn't have seen a hood ornament if our car had one. We dropped to only a couple miles an hour speed, and when the gust of snow & fog passed, we were on the left side of the road fully in oncoming traffic. Luckily nobody was coming our way, but it was scary. Turns out my doctor's office was dysfunctional anyway due to the power being out, the roads being impassible, so they just did a tele-visit with me. Anyway.... yet another long comment. :) Thanks for listening.

    Also , are shearers like farriers and fairly unreliable ?

    • @claymonsterpottery
      @claymonsterpottery Před rokem +2

      Unreliable not. Just need to be flexible. Lots of things happen on a farm and sometimes the sheerers are are also farmers and/or shepherds. Lots of clogs.
