    Your chin goes forward, is that also part of proper form? (Not being sarcastic, truly wanting to know.)

      It's not part of the exercise, although you will want to keep the muscle tension in your traps only. If your neck or face muscles tense up during a shrug it may be an indicator that you're using too much weight

      @@jarvifuentes7077, thank you! I have been waiting for a reply to my question. Thank you for answering and also for explaining why this happens.

      @@ILfarmgirl1970 You're welcome. Also of note is that the natural act of shrugging pushes your head and neck forward because shrugging compresses the traps, located behind the neck. Shrugging "foward" (caving your chest) will not target the traps as much.

      @@jarvifuentes7077, I just tried it both ways without weights and I can definitely feel the difference in the muscles. Thank you for sharing your insight and knowledge. I appreciate it.

    • @KeksimusMaximus
      @KeksimusMaximus Před 2 lety +1

      Not really. Dumbbels are better, sure. But it's not that barbell is "improper"

    • @ModilleNeuvoja
      @ModilleNeuvoja Před rokem

      Dumbells are heavy to lift and move around but not heavy enough for working sets. Much safer and efficient to use squat rack or smith
