    As local of Manila, a car enthusiast who enjoys driving (even in Manila traffic), and as a fan of Andrew's show, Canada's Worst Driver, I can say that MOST of the contestants in CWD will be considered a normal driver in Manila (example: Brittany from Seaason 14. She's like many drivers in Manila.)
    If I win the lottery, I would bring the CWD show in the Philippines and have Andrew host it. That'll be a blast. LOL!

  • @mangoshake
    @mangoshake Před 4 lety +6

    If you're actually willing enough, the first thing you need to do in Manila traffic is to relax and cool your head. Lean back and actually enjoy the fact that you have a cushion in the bucket seat. The next thing to do is to simply follow the rules of the road that you were taught whichever place you came from because it's practically the same elsewhere due to the Vienna Convention on Road Signs and Signals. The Philippines follows the minimum standard set by the Convention so there aren't any unconventional or weird rules and markings that would confuse you, unlike Japan or the UK. The third thing to do is actually more sensible than you might think; it is to be alert and *drive fast*. Driving isnt a stationary activity. If you want to get from point A to point B in as little time as possible and limiting your exposure to crap driving as much as possible, then stick to the speed limit all the time and you will actually get to your destination with minimal conflict. One of my biggest problems with Filipinos driving is that they're aggressive AND slow, hogging the overtaking lane at 80kph and brake checking you if you flash them to move over when there's nobody in the right lanes. How utterly ironic and moronic.
    Keep in mind, just because you're driving fast doesn't mean you have to make you and your passengers nauseated. You also have to drive smooth. Be like Jackie Stewart; he even made a VHS about it. Learn how to drive smooth and fast, seriously. It'll save your life.
    Surviving Philippine traffic isn't about picking up your balls and acting tough like a jeepney driver, it's about actually staying safe and being alert. If you survive Philippine traffic, try doing so without harboring the bad habits here. That's why i can get into highway 401 and into Downtown Toronto within minutes and still be feeling fresh.

    @benjaminallan2756 Před 6 lety +14

    I can't believe it was actually that easy to get a license there holyshit lol. Here in Canada it's a whole 3 year process to get your full license. First year you take a knowledge test to acquire your learners or G1 ( you can only drive with someone that has a full license while you're a G1) and with that you have to have it for 1 year before you can finally take your road test and acquire a G2 license. At this point you're allowed to drive by yourself but only after driving for another year after that will you be allowed take the advanced road test to finally get your full license. But the process in Philippines is nuts !! I cannot believe the process was that fast and the actual driving test is in a closed area!! Here in Canada it's actually on the road. Crazy man.

    • @benjaminallan2756
      @benjaminallan2756 Před 6 lety +2

      Dont even get me started on the fact that it looks like they do not need to safety their vehicles before it's allowed on the road.. Here in Canada again our vehicles need to pass a rigorous safety and e-test to be certified fit for the road. You can't just buy a car and start driving it.

We have pedicabs, horses, pedestrian crossing all over too. Taxi drivers here are just the same as jeepney drivers in Manila, unruly. Practice to drive here in Manhattan first before driving in Manila and I'm pretty sure you can make it.

    I think as of the start of 2019, the number of cars in the country multiplied drastically. The amount of cars you will see in this video doubled (or maybe quadrupled or worse) as of today especially in 2017 when there are more than 170,000 brand new vehicles (that doesn't include used 2nd hand vehicles) released from the showrooms because everyone can get a new car from low down payment prices. Now the city I live in gets longer travel times than before thanks to it

    Funny enough when I had my aunt visit me in Canada and I drove her around she was terrified sometimes b/c the traffic here moves so much faster. When I pointed out I wasn't likely to hit something, and it was unlikely someone would hit me, she pointed out that a collision in the Philippines is at least slow. With that mentality in mind I still refuse to drive on visits, even a slow collision can do a lot of damage.

    Do you know that the jeepneys are military jeeps and trucks left behind by the united states military during japanese occupation and some even came from the japanese and the locals use them for public transport then for more passengers to fit they made them longer and put some roof to protect from the heat. FYI

    Too many people and too many cars in such a small country where there are 7000 people lives per square miles compare to only 79 people live per square miles in the U S. Think about it. There ain’t enough room. Stop producing people!!!

      The population isn't exactly the problem though, comparing to some other neighbouring Asian countries with similar population density, their traffic is nowhere near as close as to this, if ever. It is really the problem that is already shown in this episode. Public transportation is also very ineffective and fragmented that contributes a lot to this traffic problem not just in Metro Manila but the whole, only with lesser issues that can be addressed easier than Manila. The Philippines though indeed not fit to be a "carnation" because of small available landmass with a huge population. A unified and effective mass transportation system is really the solution for people to commute, and needs to eliminate old current "systems".

    Manila is divided into two cities, the old, Latin, formed in 1940's part of Manila. Which is the dirty Manila seen here. And the modern, 21st century Asian Manila, which has the biggest malls in Asia etc... I live in Manila, and I would never dare venture out of the Asian sector into the Jungle that is Manila proper, Binondo, and Tondo.

    Some mistakes of this video
    1. There are 16 CITIES AND 1 MUNICIPALITY, not 16 municipality.
    And the thing where you manage traffic, the traffic enforcers are from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, the agency control some aspect of life and policies of Metropolitan Manila like traffic, sewers and littering

    It's much worse these days, especially on a friday payday and its raining with street floods. Much more traffic jams if you add a long weekend to this equation. I just learned how to drive (manual). 1st time i drove alone (just today) i sweat really hard even though ac is on because the car is dying on me in the middle of a busy street. Whew. I now wish i should have gotten an automatic.

      Artificial problem. Put more trains on the MRT, buy 3 door buses - not those long-distance ones which don't belong in the city. It's easily solvable if the corruption would be lower and leaders would have will-power.

    • @kornkernel2232
      @kornkernel2232 Před 6 lety

      Milton Waddams True! Needs a complete and comprehensive mass transportation system, not the current fragmented "system" that is now already overcapacity and under maintenance. Looking at you MRT-3 which is even incorrectly named, it should be LRT-3 because it uses Light Rail Vehicles, not Metro/EMU trains. LRT-2 should be called MRT-2 because its the only system in the country currently that use actual Metro trains like what you see from other countries, not to mention its even driverless (impressive actually).
      Buses running through every city should be that actual city bus, not those long-distance coach buses that only designed to travel between towns or city. For some unknown reason, the classification and using right vehicle for the job is f#$# up like I mentioned in regards to MRT and LRT classification.
      Right, and competent people really should be appointed to respective positions where it is needed, not just some politicians that most likely have no idea the right transportation system really is. I wish that foreign talents from countries with fully-developed mass transport and traffic system like Japan or South Korea to take over to fix and manage this very issue, until local government fully learn.
