love how you show stuff that can be done from home! i have been trying this for awhile and its grat.
This is amazing content, Marty! Feel like I learn so much from every vid
appreciate it! trying to grow this!
Looking forward to watching this one when I get finished with practice a little later. 👍
Awesome content Martin. You are continuing to crush it. I definitely prime before speed sessions. Band work, core work, glute and leg activation, and precession machine work… currentl ball speed record in 188mph… much more in the tank! 💪💪💪💪🔥🔥🔥🙌🙌💯💯✊✊
Let‘s gooooo!!! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Very interesting Borgy!!! Learning a lot here! Thank you and keep smashing it!
thanks!
Really liking the videos - incorporated some of your technique like the rotation of the lead foot into my driving and got some more distance so thanks!
Keep going!!
Love it Martin, keep it coming! 💪 not 100% quickest ball speed, but quickest swing speed 115mph
Love your vids brother...have a young kid getting into LD and I told him to watch all your vids!
Let's go Martin! Great tips for priming! Current BS record is 169!
Amazing stuff ..having lesson with Lee as well …compliments
Priming for speed as you’re doing it reminds me of how I primed for powerlifting. The principles were very different (with a few overlaps), but what strikes me as similar is the time frame for rest and recovery.
In a quest for strength, very heavy negatives and ridiculous pause reps were common.
As a side note, I went back through journals and pictures to locate when I had my fastest ball/club speeds, and since Golf had become less important it was merely by coincidence that I located a 179 ball 126 club with a hybrid at a pga superstore and the preponderance of work in the gym was geared towards squatting body weight * 2 for a set of 25, secondary emphasis on taking my 10 rep max and slowing down the negative and exploding upward for sets of 3-5 repetitions.
Circling back around to the original comment on priming following a 48-72 hour recovery, I have an abundance of evidence that these in combination were either responsible for or assisted equally in breaking plateaus in strength training.
Back in June I had surgery to reconstruct my jaw, bone grafting etc. The process is nearly finished but I’ve been on a strange diet for eight months so I’m interested to see what happens when I reintroduce higher levels of protein next month, specifically high bio available protein such as red meat etc.,
Question for you Marty, god forbid you had 80% reduction in your left ankle mobility from the absence of the ankle joint, how would you structure your speed training? A basic assumption would be that everything else is as it is now, but your ability to get to your lead side and explode up was reduced by a factor of 2.5.
TLDR, apologies, but please keep in mind I’m a Golf Pro in Michigan and I’ve increased ball speed by 6% since July, going from 100 to 107 mph club speed. I need a speed program that accounts for limited range of motion whilst I work like a madman to increase my lead ankle ROM. (According to Kneesovertoesguy , TPI, and a variety of Orthopedics, this is either impossible or a very long and difficult 2-3 years away before there’s no mobility issues).
Your editing is hands down the best there is, it reminds me of voice memos in the new iOS where it doesn’t record any prolonged pauses.
If you’re ever in Dallas, especially at Golden Bear, you really ought to meet Russ Ryden. I have no idea what you might learn from him, but you’ll learn something that will be of value and application. Ask Maness or anyone else about Russ. Devotedgolfer is his channel.
Great vid dude!! ❤️
Will definitely try this before next speed session. Ball Speed PR currently 176, chasing 185 this year
In my mid 40s before a shoulder injury I was at 127 -130 swing speed I’m now 66 I can get 110 club speed but it’s tough with the bad shoulder
I did for Track and Field in in college alot. Never thought about applying it to golf, I'm starting out in amateur Long Drive, I like the idea behind it. Sweet.
love the half shot speed drill...will take that to the range in NZ
I’ve been using the half swing power improvements drill for 50 years
Yes, I like to experiment with light weights and belly dance also . Uppercut with 2kg dumbell up . But in my case, it is archeology . However I keep fit and reconstruct after confinement sarcopenia .
Good stuff! Love it.
Just listened to your Rick shiels podcast . Man keep it up . You are opening a lot of eyes to your sport. Also love the videos. Good luck at the worlds
Glad you liked it!!
Great content thank you
Martin! This is great stuff! Every tip you put out is like a tiny gold nugget that I need to collect! By the way, my fastest ball speed is 165 this year! I’m hoping to get it faster.
let‘s gooo!! Keep going 👍🏾
I havnt tried to prep but I will next time before my speed session
Very informative. Dope!
Such a good video! Banged out a lowly 180mph in my usual range session today - feels a long way behind 230!
Nothing lowly about 180, keep up the good work
Great video 💪💪💪💪💪💪
Excellent work! I love watching your swing! I have been training for about 3 months now and average full swing club speed is up from 101-106 got to get that to the tour average of 115 is the goal. Do you have any videos of mobility training?
Informative thanks
Glad it was helpful!
You should write a book dude. These ideas about the way the CNS can be manipulated or hacked is very interesting. Great content! Latest PR 314 carry can’t wait for golf season here (New York).
I actually started a notepad as a collection of everything I do on a regular basis. Might turn into a book at some point ;-)
I'm glad you added the clip of the driver to the face haha had me extremely curious since you told me you lost a fight with a driver hahaha. 🤣
117 club head and 170 ball at the moment aiming for 120 club and 180 ball this season training on core, stretching and speed sticks currently started a year ago at 101 club and 140 ball with driver. Just struggling to get that last 3 mph club head and 10 in ball. Keep grinding away.
I'm naturally fast twitch muscle dominant, I don't do any priming fastest ball speed so far was 222 with 148 club head speed - I've also got 3 torn discs - jumping is kind of out of the question for training, I jumped about 35mph in club speed this year - mostly focusing on full range of motion training/loading. I think if you are slow twitch dominant then priming is a must because what I do doesn't work for most ppl, I just got lucky being more fast twich dominant.
I would say for training I'm also doing mostly lower weight, and 2 sets 2-40 reps for endurance - but I also switch off and go heavy weight low rep every 3-4 times - just depends on what I'm working on. I think the biggest thing ppl are missing in their training is posterior chain full range of motion. I'll upload some of my training stuff this year - I'm really glad to see these videos / how the world champ is training.
Great stuff Martin! Look forward to more even for us old guys chasing 160 bs😂
Sky is the limit!
Dude I love your energy, even if I didn't play golf, I'd still love the videos. I owned the oldest standing CrossFit affiliate in Michigan for 14 years and I've never even heard of a K-box. It seems like cleans, snatches, or clean pulls / snatch pulls could do the same? I've been doing those for....ever. And no worry about dodging any eccentric (if you're doing pulls, you can just drop the bar). Not to mention you can dial in the weight you want, do snatch pulls the day before because they're lighter, etc.
Also love that you introduced Bryson to Kettlebell swings. Absolutely nothing better for priming (see?) the hips to explode.
I agree! On the flywheel training: go try one and you‘ll see how different eccentric overload feels like. The whole movement has a completely different dynamic to it
Just watched you on rick shiels podcast awesome show love the content!!
Glad you liked it!!
I hit wedges this way pretty often. Shocking how far it'll go going half way back, squatting, and firing through.
Awesome content. Definitely have overlooked this in my training. Going to start doing this the day before.
My fastest ball speed is 198.4. Trying hard to get over 200
let‘s gooo! You will break it very soon!
@@MartinBorgmeierLD I’m working on it. Been creeping up little by little. Started out 189 in January. Just more work to do
Please Marty. Can you do a video explaining how to rotate left foot wide open coming into impart. You do this even on your half swings. I wear Athalonz but my left foot will not rotate. Gets stuck in ground.
Can anyone tell me what that “towel” thing was that he was using to simulate impact? I couldn’t tell what he called it or find it in Google.
Post activation potentiation is 🔥
Kannst du vielen mal ein Video machen in dem du zeigst wie man ohne Geräten gut trainieren kann um ein besseren Clubspeed zu haben
Got new max club head and ball speed on trackman 136.7 202 ball play driver you videos helping me get there ThnKs
let‘s goo! Keep up the great work!
Purchased a Paderson shaft today from Bobby I got bit by the bug. Letttttssss gooooo now I have to work out.
let's goooo!
BOOM! 🤯
Martin is a beast - This channel should be way bigger
working on it, started not long ago and trying to grow it!
@@MartinBorgmeierLD I got an idea for a video - helping a random golfer hit 300 yards ;)
Who makes the magnetic contact training aid?
I have topped out at 162 ball speed so far. I'm interested in the idea of overcoming a collision. Does the speedball have a uniflex shaft? Will it damage my driver if I hit Headcovers with it? Thanks for your content.
wow this is so sick love i came across this video. i definitely suscrobed
Hi Martin Where can I get the impact training tool you show in this video. Searched online and nothing like it. I need to train myself to stop killing my shots after I feel the impact and learn to continue my follow through. That impact tool might just do it for me. Thanks for any help and best of luck on your next championship move.
where to buy that impact like towel device you are hitting? Whats it call? Who makes it?
I’ve noticed I’m fastest after a few days rest. And reversely, slowest the day after a heavy gym session. Also faster after light cardio/mobility session. I train in the gym 3x a week and play golf 3x a week. I use speed to gain relative distance to my level of golf and noticed that my speed reserve improved my game a lot. Shot +1 on a round last week, even though I had a slow day and weather was not helping either. Priming for start of comp golf 5 weeks.
let‘s gooooo! Great work
i love the idea of priming! thanks to you, i do it before my speed sessions every time! and i just bought a door mounted pull up bar just over a month ago, so i am glad that fits in with the speed training as well. thanks for the awesome tips and for being such an inspiration! keep funky!! p.s. can you recommend any exercises in place of that flywheel apparatus??
just go with normal squats
@@MartinBorgmeierLD thanks! i run 10km each day, and when i run through the park, i do jumps up onto the benches in sets of 7 per bench. and i do 50-60 squats per day, and recently after seeing you and bryson do it, i started doing squats with weight (about 50 lbs on a bar). i have loose plates in my living room, so all my workouts are done in a small space, but i can do most of the muscle groups. since getting into your content and seeing you in mesquite last year, i have been making great strides for a guy who is going to turn 53 in may! my swing speed is about 125 now, maybe a bit more. my next event is in april, so i have another month to get even better . thanks again martin, you rock!!
@@lazy_dad Deadlifts with moderate weight, like 6-8 rep weight. Goblet squats work well too. I like to use a low bench I can touch my butt to at parallel depth then explode up. I call them teabaggers.
@@7676ezra thanks so much!!
What machine is this and do you have any other alternatives to this one.
How do you do a speed session is it just swing as fast as you can?
Marty! Those vertical jumps were insane! Time for a colab with Matt Blois Golf. Need to get him over 200 ball speed!
let‘s goo, hook me up
I don't know Matt personally (although I do play hockey against him #smallworld). I've suggested the idea on his channel. I don't know how CZcams gods communicate but I think you'd be a perfect fit. Awesome to see you on the Rick Shiels podcast. I can't wait to listen to it! P.S. Matt is running one of his regular Q&As and Alex Etches is in the chat. Might be cool if you dropped by. Appreciate all your help with my golf game!
Matt responded to me on the Q&A. He's down. He wants to message about it.
Another great vid. Channel will explode to 6 figure subs soon enough!
I hope so! Trying to grow this!
I want to start doing some of this training I’m way fat 5’11” 220 and my ch speed is 125-130 how what the first thing I should do
This is similar to something I read german javelin throwers do. Apparently they do weight training in throwing sessions to prime muscles they want to get better at utilizing in the throwing motion
love it!
185 is the record, goal is 195 this year. Training but can’t seem to break it. Maybe we can meet up at a competition. ;)
let‘s goooo! Great numbers 🔥
Martin you should try to prime using a hex bar instead of that flywheel. You could jump with it if you wanted to or you could just pick up like 450 lbs 3 times and then hit after waiting 5 to 10 min. I think it would probably ramp up your CNS more with less fatigue.
Awesome video as always Martin. On the half swings it seemed like you kept your weight on the right side from start until the push off. Is that correct?
trying to load into the lead side and then push off of it
Can you create a video on how to keep your back healthy. Like if you do a stretching routine or some kind or some other treatment. Loving the content btw keep it up!
love it!!
Ich will mir sofort beides bestellen. Es muss voran gehen!!!
Und Du bitte immer weiter machen.
Du bist ne 1 plus mit Sternchen. Ende
PRGR is the monitor, the other gear is from Tour Tempo. A bunch more content on that coming soon!
Took up golf again after 20 years in April last year . Got up to 159 then hurt my neck 2 month ago not been able to swing a club since.
be careful and get well soon! 💪🏾
Fuckin' beaddafull! I be doing my own scratching around trying to find the best gym workouts!
Thanks Martin... My man!
let‘s gooo!
@@MartinBorgmeierLD let's dooo iiiitttttttt!
What hitting screen are you using? I saw you mention it in your last video. I think you said it was a prototype? So not available to the public?
Not sure if it made it to market yet, but my testing is going great. The manufacturer is called Fenris
70% need to get off their a$$es and sub and get faster! Gems! Dropping knowledge...love the priming...being older now 40, it is even more important the older we get! body needs to move before moving fast! Thanks again!
tell your friends to sub, Keith!! 🤠❤️👍🏾
@@MartinBorgmeierLD my golf friends idea of "priming" is a shot and a beer and lets rip it! Ha...they wonder why I blow it by them at 41 lol...the channel is a must watch! Would be curious when you would be ready to share some LD "secrets" in private for pay seshs? Cheers! Keep up the GREAT work from Cali
Will you do a fans swing review video like bryson did recently, but with emphasis on speed? Would love some insight myself what's slowing me down technique wise
yes, will definitely look into that!!
I’m really struggling for distance on my driver I hit it 170mph+ but only getting 240 carry’s please could you do a video on this
probably spinning it too high, check out my hit it longer video
Very helpful.would be great to know where you buy all your training aids. Also maybe consider partnership with those training aid companies and create an online merch store. I think many people would like to support you.
Maybe down the road! I appreciate it, Ben. Still trying to figure out what content you guys wanna see 👍🏾
Do you take any supplements for recovery? Just curious because you mentioned your knees. I’ve found Krill oil tablets to help me drastically in getting around a course
I‘m using some different things to help my recovery. Might create some content on that soon 👍🏾
5’4 and 120lbs. PR 176mph ballspeed. I also train with the speed ball and face plates
let‘s goooo!!!
Aside from these particular drills...how much...in terms of a % do you attribute your speed to your weight bearing exercises in the gym. You're a pretty muscular physique, so which is the most important if you are starting at a 110-120 speed. More time in the gym or more time on these drills?
mechanics > strength for speed in golf
A quick question, in regards to a 48 inch shaft for long drive. What's a good store to purchase from? And ships internationally. Struggling to find a good website
you can go directly to padersonshafts.com for example ;-)
@@MartinBorgmeierLD thank you. You're a gentleman and a scholar. Cheers
Love your content bro! Would be epic to see your warm down routine your flexibility, stretching routine. As that's what I'm focusing on. Would love to see how the Pro himself increases his flexibility. Kerp up the content Huge FAN!
cool idea, if more people are interested in this, I‘ll make a video on it 👍🏾
Love to see your stretching routine also
Have you ever used smelling salts for over training? I see alot of power lifters use these. Would this be useful for training golf?
I‘ve never done it before but I‘ve seen a few guys in the LD circuit do it
@@MartinBorgmeierLD Thanks for sharing the Epic Shiner 😀
is that k box the active, lite, or pro?
kbox4 pro
How long does a typical speed session take you? Roughly how many balls do you hit? What are you looking to accomplish each session?
between 30 and 150 balls, depending on what my goal is. Very much depends on the time of the season
Do you have a nutritionist for leading up to events to give yourself the best prep?
I‘ve been working with one years ago, now do it all myself
What was is the name of the device you were hitting?? The towel looking thing??
Tour Tempo
I need a sound bit of Martin yelling boom for my notification sound
😂😂😂
Interessante Trainingsideen... Coole Videos mit gutem Content... Was ist eigentlich aus "Punchline Golf" geworden? Lebt das Projekt noch?
Check out the latest Rick Shiels podcast on that 👍🏾
have no idea what my ball speed was but carried 420 on the fly wit no wind help 45 inch driver
We know Half swing if very fast look at Ralm he kills the ball..Tiger said to play the game use a feel of 3\4 swing
Would you rather prime the day before or the day of a speed session?
both works, in my experience a bit of recovery between the priming and actual hitting is key
It reminds of a squat any difference
171 mph. I’ve gained quite a bit but seem to be stuck and can’t get over that. I train and speed sessions. Maybe need to work harder in the gym, I don’t know.
let‘s goooo!
never primed before
I do much of what you showed with slight differences, but I also prime internal and external humeral rotation (infraspinatus and supraspinatus), wrist cock, and forearm pronation and supination. I do this both with a heavy bag (boxing) and a speed bag. I treat these as reactive plyometric movements. I use my hands, a heavy broken swing stick, and a very light broken handle from that same swing stick, and an ordinary hammer. I believe people overlook the importance of the internal and external rotation of the arms and the pronation and supination of the forearms with regards to creating speed through the impact zone. This is my little secret. I may end up changing my mind and deleting this comment. Should I post this? Man... okay... I'm gonna post it. I may still delete it. 👍
I meant subscapularis - not supraspinatus. My bad. BTW... the subscapularis is almost as big as your pectoralis major and is located inside of where you shoulder blades are located.
That‘s some interesting details, TJ!!
has he addressed the black eye? New here
Great video thanks
But can you get a pair of shorts that fit you 😆
these fit perfectly!!!
172 mph!
C`mon, that was about primining! To be honest I`ve expected some heavy weight lifting sessions😇. Nevertheless good to know how you do prepare the CNS to gain speed
