- As much as we wished we could determine the exact date our Model A's were built that information doesn't exist. So for those of you who have ever tried to pinpoint precisely when your Model A rolled off of Ford's assembly line we made this video up to help you narrow down a timeline of your vehicle's production date.

Very good video, maybe do an episode on all the different colors of the Model A.
We've been shooting video at national Model A gatherings the last year or so for a few similar projects but hadn't thought to do colors. We'll have to go through all the footage to see what we have. Thanks for watching!

Well said. There is no way to know the assembly date of a Model A. There is someone on the tube trying to say they have the 'first Model A off the the line in 1929' . They have no proof other than the engine# [ all US engines are from Detroit] & car was assembled in San Fran. I think $$$ is the factor here. Your Model A videos are always the most correct we can get ; well done.

Check out some information on rebuilding the speedometer. That's where I found that there's a build date code on the back of it. From that code, I was able to determine that my Model A is a Feb. 1930 car. It's not the exact date but knowing the month, if your speedometer is original to the car, is pretty close.
True, if the original speedometer is in the car you could help use that as a way of narrowing down the build date. Also, the starter band had a date code stamped onto it for all the non-powerhouse models. Thanks for watching and pointing out another way of getting closer to an original build date.
Great video! Is there some kinds of list some where of all the ford plants that assembled these? Would there be a way to find out which plant it was manufactured at by looking at the number by the cross member like you said?

If you find what plant a model a was assembled at, based on the number, would you be able to tell when the body was made? Do they have records of each factory when the body was completed?
I don't believe that specific info exists at this time. Say you have a '29 Coupe labeled JE (Jacksonville) 2217. That'd mean it was the 2,217 Coupe assembled at that plant since 1928. Since Jax only assembled 2,414 coupes in '28 and '29 you know you're probably at the end of the year. Other things to take into account would be that the Jax plant didn't open until May 10th 1928. The following isn't an exact science since production was still not at its peak until 1929 but you could surmise that the Jax plant assembled approx 120 coupes a month, meaning this example coupe would have been built in November of '29. There's a lot of variables though such as the plant closing down at the end of '29 to retool for the '30's etc.
Again, its the sum of the parts that'll narrow things down.
are you trying to say Phaeton, or are you saying the name of a city? you're adding an extra syllable in "Phaeton" if that's what you're saying. it's "fae-ton" not "Fae-at-ton".
I've got a 29 Phaeton. I've always wondered about the year, it's technically a 29, but it's got the flush body of the '30, there's no step at the firewall. I always just assumed it's a late 29 car, but now I'm not so sure.

There was a very small number of 1930 Phaetons built in December of 1929, perhaps yours was one. What is it about your car that tell you it is a '29?
@@AModelA title says 29'. previous owner said it was a 29. grandpa said it was a 29, that's what we called it. never really thought much more of it until I joined the local club. fella there says it's not a 29 because of the flush body and hood/cowl.
as for the pronunciation of Phaeton, this video is the first time I have heard it said like that, and I've been around Model As for decades. It could be simply because I'm from the south, but Florida sees plenty of yankees, and a lot of them have As and are in the local club I'm in. they all say it like I do.
There were 16 1930 phaetons made in December of 1929. I believe they were built at the Rouge or Kearny (NJ) plants. You could check out this study and compare the small details listed to your car to determine if it was a Dec 29 car.

Who cares? This is a model A for crying out loud. It is ancient, and you are lucky to have one if you still do, what with wooden floors and such.
And all those that build them are dead now.
