Backwards compatibility really should be in the Switch successor. I think many people, myself included are going to buy the next Nintendo console but if it's not backwards compatible I'll just wait until more worthwhile games release for it, since the Switch's first year was pretty empty until the end of the year but you give it backwards compatibility that improves the performance of many if not all Switch titles? I'm running to my nearest game store to pre-order and buy Day 1.

I'm more interested in the specs like what GPU/SOC it's going to use, What will Nvidia ultimately will be putting into the successor? The clock speed, ram, can it do ray tracing/4k HDR when docked. Will the screen be 720p or 1080p? Can it do HDR in Handheld? Will there be a performance/Graphics update for Switch games if it's backwards compatible? What of DLSS? So many questions, can't wait to see what games will look like on the new hardware.

It could be that the backwards compatibility is like the with the 3ds that the "Switch 2" cartridges could have a extra nudge so you can only insert it in to a "Switch 2" and still fits a Switch cartridge
I solved the two card slot problem. The new dock which will have a smaller footprint and a single card slot for og. Switch game cards. When docked the game In its entirety can be uploaded to the console memory for taking on the go. I also have a hunch that 2 of the inputs within dock, , hdmi and lan will be attached to a stand alone portion of the dock allowing for the essential up scaling portion of dock to be taken on the go with a retractable ac power cord. You’ll be able to play docked performance in table top on the go. Once back home, the dock magnetically connects to the standalone portion with HDMI and lan already connected.
Backwards Compatibility Possible Solution
I could see them having the new cartridge slot (3D Nand) on the actual system and put a Switch 1 (2D Nand) slot on the power brick/base so you could still play Switch 1 games on the Switch 2 but only at home.
I really hope that physical hardware compatibility will be supported.
In case anybody missed the news, Red Dead Redemption is coming to Switch August 17. The physical edition is coming in October, evidently.

I haven’t played this game in years. I’m legitimately hyped.
I’m not sure I will upgrade if it’s not backwards compatible, at least I won’t initially. I waited five years into the switch life cycle to buy one because it wasn’t compelling enough to upgrade from the Wii U since most of the games I wanted to play were ports or remakes.
When I was a young kid, I found it so fascinating that my DS lite had a slot for GBA games as well. It's definitely possible and I would love to see it again
I really hope it DOES actually support backwards compatibility for the Switch, it’d be such an interesting insane move to pivot away from that entire library especially if they’re continuing with the hybrid form factor

What they’ll probably do is make a switch two cartridge that allows you to put the old cartridge in it kind of like a microSD going into an sd card adapter
I want everyone to know that Tears of the Kingdom runs at a mostly steady 60FPS on current Switch hardware with homebrew and overclocking. It is a treat to behold, and feels like the ideal way to experience the game. I hope Nintendo considers this when moving to next gen, as it should not be hard to acheive after so many years of chip development.

@Skybr328 Yes. It's a really cool thing to experience, but requires either a mod chip or an unpatched Switch from 2017-2018.

@Skybr328 You still can, but you'd need someone to install the chip for you. If you do, just be careful set up your SD card correctly, or you could get your Switch banned from Nintendo servers. Not your account, mind you, just your Switch. Your account can only get banned if you cheat with online games. Less common.
I believe the dock will play original switch on tv only and the hand held will be S2 only
2 slots is a possibility. They did that on the DS. And the wii played gamecubes smaller disc
They could also do what they did for the 3ds 2 different game cartridges going in the same slot
Third parties will not take advantage of the new cartridges… they will still put their games on a 16gb cart and make you download the rest. Well I should say they will take advantage of the cheaper price of the cartridge.
I'd be interested to see if Nintendo does decide to have backwards compatibility on the Switch 2. I can think of a few solutions that don't involve sticking two cartridge slots on the console but they wouldn't work with the 'hybrid system' gimmick. I'm pretty sure the easiest (and most secure) solution would be a second slot, like some previous Nintendo handhelds. Although I'm sure that's the first feature that would be stripped out of a later 'Lite' release. They've made a 2-way cartridge slot before on the 3DS but it sounds like that might not work this time without causing a bunch of issues due to an overcomplicated slot.

I'm hoping that the next console has full backwards compatibility and support for the Switch's controllers. And also, I hope they go easy on the gimmicks. lol

The original DS had the two cartridge slots, one being for Game Boy Advance games. It'd be nice if they had an OLED screen from the get-go too.
I think it will be like USB2.0 to USB3.1 slot can fit the same but operate different based on the chipset.

When i think of the Switch successor, my mind goes back to what Nintendo did during the GBA to DS transition. Where we were able to play our GBA games on the DS, which made it easier to upgrade Day 1 as i still had a few games on my GBA i had yet to play and was in the middle of playing. But if that hadn't been an option, i probably wouldn't have bought the DS a year later, when the DSi dropped.
I think Nintendo needs to make it where it as more GB vibration in the joystick

I’m okay will no backwards compatibility as well. As long as it has some new games that interest me I’ll get it. There’s usually not many games that I have on the previous console that I’ll still care about.
The original Nintendo DS had a separate slot for Game Boy Advance games. So, it’s not crazy to think they might put a second slot for Switch Classic game cards.
I could see them having 2 versions. A model that is physically backwards compatible and a model that plays digital Switch Classic games only.
My hope is that we’re getting an across the board upgrade that is also backwards compatible. But who knows…
Everybody saying the Switch successor won't have backwards compatibility because of the different card format, but everybody seems to have forgotten the DS and GBA slots you pointed out as well as the Switch having the game cartridge slot and the Micro SD card reader. It is more than possible to have multiple card readers in one machine, and the current x86 or whatever it is that the Switch uses as its base facilitates the next generation to be backwards compatible.
The Switch cartridge dimension is big enough to last more then one generation (compare it to micro sd card). They'd be stupid to not reuse it & save money on redoing all the production process. Unless they become paranoid of pirating.
@@dycu Actually, the Switch uses 2DNAND, which is actually more expensive and less effective than 3DNAND, so they are likely making the change. But putting a second cartridge slot that can read the Switch's cartridges should be cheap enough for them, that or the Switch 2's cartridge slot can read both.

@@dycu No, I'm saying it's possible the cartridge format will be different to accommodate the new technology, but until we have confirmation that this is true, it could be either way.
Logically speaking, it is possible they could decide to go for a different format to help unaware consumers differentiate between the two types of games.
Remember: people still thought the Wii U was an accessory for the Wii because of Nintendo's piss poor marketing strategy, so it is likely they will try to differentiate the Switch 2 from the Switch in some more obvious way, such as changing the cartridge format to make sure Switch 2 games won't fit Switch 1 cartridge slots.

I just hope Nintendo doesn’t cripple it out of the gate. Granted most switch users don’t care about power; but it’s probably going to be another 7 to 8 years before Nintendo releases new hardware, so I’m hoping it’s powerful enough to last.

The Next Console generation from Nintendo isn't going to launch before the end of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2023, which ends on March 31, 2024.
Nintendo is going to launch in the 2nd, the 3rd, or the 4th of 2024, it's more than likely Nintendo will put in 512 GB or internal storage and maybe Nintendo is moving to Solid State Drive or SSDs in their next gen- system/console, whatever its called.

The best thing for the next switch hybrid consul is full on backwards, compatibility for both physical and digital games to roll forward on. The 3DS had two readers one being native and one for DS to put your cards in. with all that money, Nintendo has been making on switch hardware and software. There’s no excuse of why in original switch card slot isn’t on there as far as the next hybrid consul is concerned. 130+ million players of an install base has been growing their switch library both physical and digital and it’ll be a real shot in the foot if backwards compatibility is not there. for me and my brother we have physical switch cards that we share and we each uniquely have our own set of digital games and for me personally, I would like to roll my games forward on the next hybrid consul and enjoy them with an auto performance boost when the time comes and a half my money saved up for it.
Hell, Sony and Microsoft have fallen backwards compatibility, both physically and digitally for the PlayStation five and the Xbox series, respectively where are you have to disk or digital versions of the games and you can rolled additional games forward when you get the latest consuls from them

A new cartridge wouldn't be surprising to enable use for 3D nand storage on said cartridges. I believe that there will be backwards compatibility, but limited to the form of digital backwards compatibility. I would hope for there to be physical backwards compatibility (a different cartridge slot) of some sort so that those who have built a physical library can continue to enjoy it on the new console. It'd be cool if the cartridge slot of the new switch would be larger than the current switch but still enable old cartridges to fit (think of a micro sd to sd card adapter) but I'm unsure of how the use of new faster storage would work in tandem with trying to accommodate to both.
The cart slot for Switch can be in the Dock.

I was thinking the same but for the new system to have two new, CAME CARD slots, with full backwards compatibility, both able to use, retail game cartridges, as well as, new very high capacity blank memory cartridge storage, for future games and software.
Also for the system to have two USB-C ports and one SD card slot.

Alternatively, what if Nintendo were to adopt the same backwards compatibility model as the Nintendo DS? but there is a another alternative what if Nintendo were to adopt the Nintendo 3DS Backwards compatibility model, instead of adopting the 2 cartridge slot backwards compatibility model as the Nintendo DS into their next console Nintendo will be adopting a Nintendo 3DS style backwards compatibility model. The fact is that Nintendo wont make the hardware powerfull enough to begin with to even uopscale to 4K. Yes upscaling can do wonders for a lower powerd device. but it is not magic. Even more powerfull handhelds or consoles struggle with 4k upscaling.
look at the ps5 and the series x. Theire are not that many games that output 4k upscaled. Offcourse theire is a tradeoff.
if a game has lower graphics (amount of polygons and visual effects.) then upscaling these graphics to 4K resolution is easier then if a game has nicer graphics.
For example it is easier to upscale minecraft to 4K resolution then it is to upscale the last of us remake to 4K.
So i hope tiis gives you more context in what i meant.🙂

I am not saying that on a technicall level it is not possible (because your right it is) but it takes two powerfull chip (1 in the dock and one in the console itself).
did you read what i said? upscaling minecraft graphics takes alot less power then upscaling a game like The last of us.
I think you are confusing graphical fidelity with resolution. good graphics are more then resolution. a game tha has a smaller polygone count and less graphical effects itakes less processing power to upscale to 4K. But the problem is Nintedo does not care about graphics. It is the customer who cares.
It takes a powerfull (expensive chip) to upscale. Do you think nintendo is going to make a device that has a expensive chip in the console(and a expensive chip in the dock) at the same time. Because u dont. at the end of the day Nintedo needs to make a profit. The console itself would be to expensive.
And i dont think Nintendo is going to make the consoel with a chip that can output 1140 p and at the same time make a different dock to be sold seperate for people that want the upscaling two 4K

This channel feels like the morning news, how they run the same stories every 15 minutes for an hour because they know no one watches the full hour while they get ready for work. The “updates” presented in today’s video, and many others, are not new. This information has already been covered on this channel. I suggest either changing the title to something that’s not clickbait, or diversifying the content of this channel. I understand clickbait drives views, but specifically new viewers. Viewers like me are going to stop watching this channel, because the clickbait gets my hopes up but after repeatedly being let down I’m about to mute this channel. So you see how clickbait is a double-edged sword.
