For that rack situation if you have working good rack of the parts car. You need to reset, the adaptations for that rack, and then re-calibrate the steering wheel angle sensor, and the initiate the rack from the diagnostics. It will make you center the wheels, then the steering wheel, after that will make you wiggle it to around plus and minus 10 degrees for a few seconds, then delete all errors from the DME, and DSC module. There is a quick way to reset the DSC connected steering wheels angle sensor, by firing the car up going full left then full right, turn off car, then wait 30 second with ignition and accessories off ( as this is F series M3 they all have comfort access for firing up its better to get the key out and far away from the car so the modules can all get to "sleep"). Then fire up and sensor should be reset.
Also the rack has its own module that needs to be coded to the car, even if it start to work will show the Tamper dot on the cluster, that means there is difference in the mileage somewhere in the car systems, not sure if the rack module as ISN number, if it does that makes it way more complicated to code.
As Elias Bergstorm said in the comments. This all can be done with almost no money spend, if you don't want to use BMW licensed software, people do it all the time. As the legit tools cost a lot and its limited to BMWs and Mini's. Just keep in mind that for F series you will need not a D-can K line cable, but E-net to OBD ( you can home made such easy there is no real interface in it, just a RJ45 plug to male ODB II ). You can get ISTA D with DB for 2020 from the internet and for coding you will need E-sys software instead of classic tools that worked with E series.
If you have other issues with the car I have been banging my head with BMW's for 10 years now, you can always PM me I will gladly share some knowledge if I have such on the problem.

Boy this video was extremely relatable for me, I bought an e46 m3 9 months ago and I felt the exact same way when I got it. I was so scared and paranoid with "oh shit is this normal" and i was worried about it breaking and not being able to fix it as well. But I've done the same thing and i let go of the reins and have taken my car to a shop and its been great, I've only had to do it twice and it was for small stuff and an alignment. Its been dead reliable, and the few things that have needed addressing like the brakes and tie rods and small maintenance stuff like that have been shockingly cheap and surprisingly easy. I'm not sure about this gen M3 but my whole brake job was under $300 for all 4 corners, my tie rod was $8 for the inner and outer on one side and it was $35 for the other. My M3 never stops surprising me with how amazing it is, it surpasses expectations in every single way imaginable. Even down to folding down the back seats and sleeping in the trunk, I occasionally drift my M3, and ill use it as a tent at the track. Its the best car I've ever owned, I love it to death.

What I've learned is that yes, money can be saved when you do work yourself, but as someone that values my time just as much as my money, it can be worth paying to get stuff done. Dude in regards to the pedestrian censor problems on the be .. I work in crash repair in the UK and the pedestrian censor is a flat strip containing 2 wires that runs across the front bumper and should be located in the crash foam on most older models. if that's still the original if it's damaged in anyway it will through up the pedestrian censor code check the plug too 🤙

Did you make sure to take out those plugs next to the oil filter and fill those with oil? Those are the lines to the oil cooler. I guess they would’ve filled and primed after running the car, but good to do next time the oil cooler is out

that background noise during the wrenching is great, sounds like a special person throwing tools around and violently attemting to get a socket on a bolt lol.

For the people criticizing the newer BMW:
Yes, it isn't a nineties car and yes, it has a lot of electronics, but have you driven any performance cars of the last decade?
They're blisteringly fast while being reliable and comfy. DCT transmissions, direct injections and modern engine management are game changers compared to our beloved classic cars.
If I had the choice, I'd also own both just like Taylor does.

BMW's definitely use Boost by Gear. The boosted BMW's I've driven (Diesel/Gasoline) always hit hardest in 2 to 3rd.

Cool the M3 is fixed (midway through vid) sometimes you just gotta call it and pay for someone else to deal with the problem, so you can enjoy it and work on the other cars 👍🏽 ps get MHD for gauges, diagnostics plus mapping
