Just wanna say thank you man, your last few videos on the corvette that have had to do with wiring got me to the point where I was confident enough to fix my pickup, was having no power to anything including dash, took me a bit to find the wire to the distribution block and it was fried along the way, replaced said wire and she cranked right up

Both the caliper and wheel bearing bolts are single use torque to yield fasteners so get new when you get back to Florida. Should be able to get a kit from fcp euro. Buy from them. They totally rule.
I rode Tail of the Dragon on my dirt bike and was super impressed with how much discipline people had in letting others by. It was a great experience.

The trick is to run the dragon first thing in the morning and then just go exploring the other roads. You can typically get a couple open runs at sunrise before it gets crowded

I'm in Nashville and my brother has a cabin in Wears Valley so we spend a lot of time In the Smokies and the month of October is prime time for people to be out on the twisty's. As a matter of fact I'll be heading over for a week or two starting next weekend and this post got me hyped up! Some well known drive's would be Foothills Parkway, Newfound Gap Road, Little River Road, Roaring Fork Motor Trail, Cherohala Skyway, Moonshiner 28, Hellbender, Devils Triangle, Cades Cove Loop, and of course "The Tail" (which I stay off of this time of year) and that's just to name a few cause there are so many more, "as The guy's found out" it's cool to go out and find the hidden gems that the locals don't want you to know about... : )

Reminds me of the roads where I live. I commute on mountain roads 40mi each way. An hour of fun every morning before work, then more after. except one of my roads has passing lanes and it is So Much Fun to pass people and feeling like your making progress through traffic.
Good call on not chasing the sloppy driver, you cant encourage that by playing with them.

If you take some of the smaller highways east of the dragon into Georgia it is an insanely good drive with beautiful views and great roads. You’re missing out with the trailer IMO. Route 441, 64, 23 and everything over there. I miss being there
Yeah we came over blood mountain on the way in and I was so sad we weren’t driving the car. But I also didn’t wanna kill the wheel bearing just driving there.

Glad you guys were able to take your rides up for some spirited driving and found an off the beaten-path road. The Dragon is one area we avoided, because it's so crowded.
I was just up in the area the weekend before IAN on a group motorcycle ride. The place we stayed at had an honest 45 degree grade - shared driveway.
Thank goodness it didn't rain the four days we were there and we never encountered other vehicles as it was a single-lane switchback style 'hill climb'.
The 944 collection is 'sick' and it was cool to see he still had your old wheels.

The dragon is neat once in a while. I like wolfpens gap, and camping at raven cliff falls. Cherrokee is a blast of a drive from Atlanta too
When I'm driving a road I don't know I throw it up on my nav screen so I can tell what corners are coming up ahead.. Virtual co driver.. Epic drive!! 👍
I did the dragon and some of the other roads back beginning of the year, still had a little bit of snow on the ground in spots, but went late enough in the day most of the driving i did was dusk/night driving. Beautiful late in the day

This is my kind of driving. Grew up on these roads. The slow cars can be a real pain, but you have to find areas that you'll having problems even finding gas. You can really go ham on them.
I'm sooo happy for y'all that you took some time off from your daily hustle, I bet it's been great to recharge the mental batteries.
I might have mentioned this already in one of your other dragon vids but we typically do night runs.
I know it sounds dumb but its not that bad and only better with some good headlights.
There is very little traffic other than the hard core dragon runners and you can go back and forth for a couple hours and rarely ever catch up to anyone.
We generally start around 9pm and it's pretty clear by then.

It's always good to be a little nervous and extremely cautious, I've lived in north and central Alabama all my life and have been up there at least once a yr since 1994, but I have noticed it has gotten 150% more traffic and 50000000000% more idiots that have no business with a driver license so I go in the dead of winter when there's no one but the locals and the trees are bare so you can see around more turns, but still some are just blind. In the 90s and early 2000s I would drive it like every one of jus WANTS to, balls to the wall, but wouldn't dare now.
I use the gps to tell what type of turn I'm coming up to. Works about 90-95% of the time.
Yeah I was doing that too. Sometimes it’s deceiving. I don’t really use it on the tail but on new roads. You can kinda figure out the rhythm of the road and know about 75% sure what the turns going to be based on the previous turns.
Tight and technical, you normally have to pay extra for that!!!!

Was just in town this last July to visit family. Had family from out of state stay in that exact airbnb, it was a drive in itself to get to that house. Lol. That last turn up the driveway is bonkers. Have fun and be safe!!

Yeah I was really sad about that. I was planning to drive it until the night before. Had to last minute change plans to make it happen.
I went to Townsend Tennessee, about an hour from the tail, back in June and I absolutely loved it. It was a small town, population around 500, right in the middle of the Smokies, and it was soooo peaceful
My "tail of the dragon" here in VA beach is Westneck road in pungo. Princess ann road that runs all the way to Currituck county NC is also a fun road.
Taylor next time you’re up there check out 28S it runs from 74-Franklin. I’ve had family in that area my entire life. 28 is just as good as the dragon but like twice as long and no traffic.
Next time you are up that way, check out 276 between Penrose to Waynesville. Its a little out of the way but its a rip and a half. I usually get off I26 in Hendersonville and take 276 to I40. Gets you around Asheville traffic. Also, I was up there last weekend with the Classic Hondas on the Dragon group and we had over 500 cars attend.
No crossing the mustard!!! Went down there with my ‘88 Foxbody stock engine 146k on the clock new suspension. Had a blast!
Having grown up on the best roads of Southern California...... most popular doesn't mean better. Mulholland, Decker canyon, Stunt, PCH, Angeles Crest, and everything in between (many I won't mention to prevent them getting over crowded) . They are amazing technical roads. However. I moved up north. And, there are many roads that eclipse those iconic roads with Zero traffic. I can't stand double lane drivers. I'm sure you will find great gems some day. TOTD is our Mulholland. Never worth doing during the day. If you ever plan a west coast trip. Announce it in a video, and I will do my best to send you good spots most people will never know about.
Next time you’re up there, check out blood mountain and the gaps around it. My favorite is wolf pen gap and the snake leading up to it
Had my 2005 BMW 545i 6 speed down there a couple weeks ago. The tail of the dragon was an awesome time! Should have brought my GoPro would have made a great video.

Yep. The Dragon... now known as the Drag-On... 'Back in my day" - THe place has totally changed. Offseason + midweek still hard to get a full rip in.
Wish some of the more successful CZcamsrs would come to close by Shady Valley and have some fun on 421 A.K.A. (The Snake). Lot's of tight switchbacks and overall a lot lower speed than Deal Gap because of the tightness of the curves. I haven't been in several years though and don't know what the road condition is like now. I've only been to Deals Gap once and never really had the opportunity to learn the road. Great video though!
The cables usually get cut off of those recliners, due to the danger of children or pets getting crushed by the mechanism. Given the fact that it was an Airbnb, almost certainly the case to avoid liability/compensation issues.
You're lucky the driveway was paved. 😆I remember having to back down gravel driveways in my 04 Malibu and hit them at speed to get up them.

You need to come to Yancey County North Carolina. Some amazing roads. Highway 80 is as good of a road as you will find in the country.

I’m a little late to the video but watching this reminded me of a cruise I went on literally just yesterday, we were a group of about 20 people and we just went around our local area and followed a river. It was so fun cause it was really hilly and curvy. Was a road I’d never driven before either and it was such a fun route I want to do it again before the snow comes up here

I lived in Tennessee for three years and it is one of the best states in America. Beautiful scenery, great people, and the Smokey Mountains area is a great place to live. Will probably retire there.
I've stayed at this exact place! Getting down that driveway in my BRZ race car was... not enjoyable, haha. Very sketchy.

I went to Miatas at the gap last year with my best friends and it was so much fun. It was the second time there. Its crazy how fun you can have at 45 mph.
Little trick for you. Get some day glow vests. A few cones and 15 minutes. You have yourself the road.
Also my favorite thing is the smell of the air that tike of year.
We just did a Volvo/Turbobricks meet out there. What an absolute blast those mountain roads are.

they didnt thread it wrong. its like that from factory as well. the bolts were updated along with the wheel bearing so unless you have parts knowledge for the F chassis stuff you would most likely have no way of knowing that update.
Bmw bearing hubs come with different threads for some reason at a dealer they would give you the bolts to match the hub. Not autozones fault
It looks beautiful. But if you want more driving and less traffic, check out some of the twisties in NorCal. The time of year hardly matters out here.

@Taylor where I live in Washington we have a smaller version of this, it is so fun but sadly it doesn't have as many places to pull over and too many people drive too fast. But the experienced drives love it
This is why I probably won't ever go back to the Dragon. I was lucky to have the road to myself for several hours because an 18 wheeler went off near one end when it was not busy due to rain, and blocked all traffic coming from the TN side. The road dried out and nobody else could get on it so it was like having a closed course. I will never be able to beat that and will always be disappointed. So I'm leaving it as it was.
If you happen to be back in the Mt. Mitchell area, a little east of here, check out The Devil's Whip (Hwy 80)... It's a blast! I did not read comments to see if Bimmer Boys were hateful about the generic auto parts... as an E46 owner I love FCP Euro, but sometimes you need a part when you need it!
p.s. I have a video of hwy 80 in my NC Miata... not pushing too hard, just having fun!
Man if you thing that driveway is rough you should see some of the cabins on ski mountain in Gatlinburg.
These are the best kind of road, not to go form point A to point B fast, but to keep you focus. You don't focus, you're dead (mostly, probably).

If you ever have a chance hwy 215 and hwy 276 South of Waynesville are probably two of my favorite roads in NC. They are amazing!

Try Ed Bolian north Georgia mountain run. If you take off from Dohlonega ga it takes about 2 hours of intense fast roads, not nearly as much traffic as the dragon.
Some of the my favorite videos that you put out are in Tennessee driving probably because that's my favorite thing to do as well can't wait I'm taking my Corvette down there in 2 weeks again. that place is magical
I live in north Georgia for work. For the first three years I lived on those roads.
While it is a great spot, if anything happens up there, you are waiting 45-1hr at the earliest

Suches loop and Blood mountain are pretty great!! I live about 30 minutes and run those all the time. At the top there’s “woodys gap” with a beautiful 1 mile hike to preachers rock and it’s a giant rock with a beautiful view this time of year!!! Super cool to see how far you’ve come man, keep it up🙌💙
Suches loop? I've done hwy 19 by Vogel, that little road just past it that's super tight, so after that just a left back towards suches maybe?
@@grantkendrick277 yes and it takes you up to woodys gap, they just recently named it suches loop and put it on google maps so it’s gotten a lot more popular recently but still a good one if you get out at the right time
