    The "villains" in 28 Days Later run because they are NOT zombies. They're not dead or undead. They're living people infected with a virus, which is why we see them starving to death near the end. Nowhere in the film are they referred to as dead or undead, the movie just follows the zombie flick formula.

    From Dusk til Dawn flipped the script. Thought we were watching a typical crime movie, but then it blossomed into a gnarly vampire flick. Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez broke the rules there I guess.

    • @daniellewillis2767

      The From Dusk til Dawn series was even better than the original movie, especially since the format allows plenty of time to expand on the lore, both criminal and supernatural, and really develop the characters. Sex Machine and Santanico especially benefit from this treatment....yes it was on Spike TV, and like the equally terrific Blade series, relied a LOT on dated female nudity tropes, but hey Titty Twister, there's gonna be T&A...

    Seeing Wes Craven's New Nightmare as #1 on this list warms my heart. I remember being in the theater when I first saw the trailer for this and I about popped in excitement. After so many subpar sequels following the original, this just came off like something vastly different than what we had from 2 to 6.
    It mirrors the original in that it opens with a nightmare, only this time around two people die. From this point forward we're off to the races and I loved how this movie blurred the line between Heather dreaming versus her actually being awake. I also loved how they didn't overdo it with The Entity appearing. For much of the first half, with the exception of the funeral, we only saw the hand.
    This movie gave us the proper closure for Heather's Nancy character that 3 failed to do.

    I'm sorry, but the giant hand at the end of "Cabin in the Woods" has nothing to do with Cthullu nor a lack of ability to show a Lovecraftian horror. The giant hand is a VERY obvious reference to the "old gods" and who exactly they are: the very AUDIENCE watching horror movies. It's a very sly (and apparently completely misunderstood!) conclusion to the film which is overloaded with horror movie clichés and basically slaps the audience in the face with "we make horror movies like this because it's what YOU demand!!"

    The "twist" referenced in the Wailing portion isn't that the woman spirit is causing the real hauntings n killing in the film. The film encourages people to be wary of everyone, but it's clear by the end that the woman spirit was trying her best to protect people, evidenced by the charms deteriorating at the end of the film when the man doesn't heed her warnings to stay away from his daughter. She was mostly a way to hit on the topic of having faith, the police officer not having faith enough in her that he ends up dying, too.

    I understand that I'm watching a video analysis of horror films but as always in frustrated with whatcultures writing staff for continually over sharing and divulging key pieces of information that spoil major parts of the film. Its so unnecessary and plenty of other list channels find a way to talk about the films without doing this. What culture has at least 1 very avoidable spoiler in nearly every list video though. Just sucks, i love the presenters and really enjoy WC but the needless spoiling is so frustrating.

    I have only one quibble with this very long supercut list - Wolfen is NOT a werewolf movie. The Wolfen of the title are a super intelligent species of wolf with human levels of dexterity and tool manipulation. It is implied that they give rise to the lycanthropy legends themselves.
    On a different subject, how many of the vocal talent featured on this video still work for WhatCulture? Jules Gill has moved on, I'm not sure if that's Kirsten Ria or Ellie Littlechild on the 2nd part, but if it's Kirsten she's gone too, I can't remember the last time I heard new content from Tilly... Which leaves Josh, and I'm not sure if he's still there either!

    Uh What?! you said "Dr. Sleep doesn't quite work" ?!! totally wrong.. wow! Its a fantastic movie written by Stephen King and masterfully directed by Mike Flannigan and Yeah It Works perfectly.

  • @astraamarante6233
    @astraamarante6233 Před 6 měsíci

    I didn't like Dr. Sleep's ending. For me specifically, it went too hard into recreating the chase scene by having Danny unnecessarily killed off and tortured. There was no need for him to be so cruelly hurt to recreate it, and all the hype surrounding his and the kid's mind powers fell flat for me. When all of the boxes opened, I actually was letdown by the fact that there were only 6 entities. Danny was SUPPOSED to have been fighting and capturing ALL of the hotel's entities, so I was expecting like 20. For me, the reliance on recreation of old scenes was too focused on rather than maintaining the original vibe, so the entire ending just makes me disappointed compared to what we could've gotten. It's a good movie, and I like it, but just like the 7th, 8th, and 9th Star Wars movies, I feel robbed compared to what could've been if the direction was a bit more adventurous. There was no need to cling so tightly to the original movie to make the ending feel like it's not even the same film because they did so much different things throughout the rest of it. If people were gonna be mad that the ending was too far off from The Shining, they also would've been yelling about the entire REST of the film, so the direction they went in for the end just feels unneeded, and even rushed, from my perspective.

    I love The Howling 3. It's the only one from the series I like. Between the use of thylacine werewolves and the weird romance and "last of their species" plot instead of regular horror, it's truly unique. I wouldn't properly call it a horror movie though
