Assault Horizon - All Native Language Warning Systems

- AH had a few gems hidden in it. This was one of them: the warning systems, the "bitchin' Betty", was in the aircraft's native language. It was such a small detail, but I really liked it. Sadly, it (inexplicably) didn't carry over to Infinity, and was left out of AC7. Hope they bring them back one day.

I knew they had the English/Russian versions, but i've never imagined they'd do the Swedish one for a SINGLE PLANE. That's amazing.
Count me second on that. Then again, I've never played Assault Horizon past the Xbox 360 Demo nor the first mission on my PC copy (The Field-of-Vision in the game is real narrow & having your plane smother the screen when focusing-camera-on-target really doesn't help me avoid discomfort)

Despite it's faults, AH had some nice touches to it that future games lack, this being one of them. Should have been an option in AC7.
AC7 takes place in Strangereal. Wouldn't have made sense.
@@BattlefireTV Why wouldn't it?
Depends, I mean, does Oka Nieba sounds english to you? On the 2nd mission of ACX, you have a journal written in french and iirc there is some part where they talk about italian pizza. But yes, it wouldn't make sens to make it plane specific like for the Grippen, Rafale and M2K5.
@@urazon9465 oka Niaba is still a made up though. And in regards to ACX and Italian Pizza that is just bad localization on Bandai EU and NA part considering they always fucked up with the localization. The actual Japanese dialogue has no mention of it.
And besides, they wouldn't be called French or Italian because France and Italy doesn't exist so that terminology wouldn't work anyways.
i'm pretty sure some regions in Usea speak a langauge that's atleast similar to french.
@@BattlefireTV it would make sense, Russian planes use Russian Alert, French planes use French Alert and etc
It's actualyl entirely possible that Japanese cockpit alerts are in "engrish" as we call it in the west.
Some Japanese words are just english words spoken with Japanese cadence, especially very new concepts or technology.
Also, English is generally considered the international language of air traffic control, so it's possible that
Katakana Engrish is actually bad vocab of Japanese speaker using English not the accent
@@Adhjie They just took words and made it their own and made it easier to pronounce with japanese sounds only. What do you call a language pronounced only (or heavily) with foreign language sounds? An accent.

On one hand they did a good job recording all those lines. On another hand - they did terrible research and translation.
As a Russian I can vouch that most voice warning lines in Russian are terribly wrong.
The most obvious is missile warning: it says "снаряд" (snaryad) - which means "artillery shell", should be "ракета" (raketa), which is both "missile" and "rocket".
"svalivaniye" (stall) is usually voiced as "skorost' predel'naya" (speed at [lowest] limit).
Et cetera, et cetera.
So that's even weirder, because the Su-25's *does* say "ракета". Why not the others then?
It's genuinely fascinating to think *how* these errors occur.
oh dude now i cant get those voices outta my head, goddamit (P.S i play DCS and im a flanker and ka50 main)
@@FookFish I played FC2 back in the day, the Flanker's AoA warning will stay in my head forever.
Yeah the French version is weird too, I mean the wording is " correct " but it does not feels natural at all when they say « remontez » for "pull up" it is not adapted at all in French in this context you would say « tirez le manche » which is literally "pull up the handle", so yeah it almost look like they google translated from English lmao
Oh so they're only on Ace Combat? I always thought our real life plane has voice like these too.
It's kinda interesting how the first russian plane's "missle alert" is "Снаряд" ("Snaryad") instead of "Ракета" ("Raketa") or "Осторожно, ракета" ("Ostorozhno, raketa"), because "Снаряд" in russian is a "cannon projectile/shell", not the missle. But at the same time, the su 25 is actually saying "missle" in russian
I’m learning Russian now, and I was going crazy trying to understand when it says: снаряд !
Finally I know thank you!

Problem is there's only one betty in 7, so you'd be replacing her on all aircraft.
Having these various languages as the system voice was such a nice touch, I certainly wouldn't mind hearing Ms. Baguette again while flying my Rafale in future games! Her and the Russian voice are those that stuck with me the most!
Although Native Language Warning Systen was only for Spin-off Real World, its not available in Strangereal unless updated in AC7 or its already there.
Nope. They still don’t have it in AC7 but in the end.. nobody technically speaks real world languages there 🤷♂️
It would be cool though
This is a small detail in AH that I loved that I was sad never made it into another game. I hope they bring it back. Russian Female and French Female are forever in my memories from how often I flew the Rafale and Su-35 in online.

Very cool, the Japanese makes sense, Japanese often sub English word into the modern language it is often faster or easier to say. Plus JDF is dependent upon American support so the pilots must speak some English.
Hmm not for long japan is planning to tear up the treaty that restricts them from buildin up a military. Thanks for making this video! I always fascinated by these voices in AH.
It would be even more interesting if you put subtitles with a transcript of what they said as CC.
The Japanese one sounds the way it does because, in real life, air operations in Japan must be conducted in English (I think). It's funny how they add in the accent, probably for pilot comfort as English won't be their first language.

@@user-eo1rl9sh3v So beautiful that it nearly killed the franchise. If you did like it, good for you, but you must admit that the game is still shit compared to any other Ace Combat game. The vast majority of us that liked Ace Combat found this an insult to the genre and the series. The plot is bland to the point of being a parody of a generic CoD plot, and the gameplay is shit. Well it would take ages, but I would love to know what some of the Russian Phrases are. I want to design an Ace Combat module for a RP game in table top sometime, but instead it's a potential Cold-War/21st Century escalation of an Armenian-Turkish conflict where Russia intervenes to defend Armenia, which escalates to involving potential NATO counter-involvement.
Having some Russian lines that some of the players could take up or mimic would be a nice touch.
You can probably find much better resources online than what's used here, as it sadly seems to be, as in many games, terrible Russian.
@@TugaAvenger To my surprise, there is a fairly good pronunciation of words in Russian. Even the words on the patches are written without grammatical errors. (For example, a patch with the name of General Stagleishov (Стаглешов))
As a native speaker of Russian, I understood perfectly what the characters were saying without the help of subtitles. Although, I'll be honest, sometimes it's impossible not to notice the terrible accent of some characters. However, the voices of warning systems sound great.
Sorry for my English btw
Huh. Some conflicting opinions then, as another native speaker in the comments said it was terrible.
@@TugaAvenger Well, in the case of the Warning System, there are numerous inconsistencies, such as the word Projectile instead of Missile, etc. However, their pronunciation is quite clear and not bad.
@@TugaAvenger There are a few inconsistencies as Three Strikes mentioned, and one case where it's straight up wrong ("Ammunition is over" rather than "Out of ammo"); the worst offenders in the game in terms of Russian are names. Virtually all last names in Russian mean something etymologically and are derived from adjectives, professions, etc; so "Stagleishov" is just a meaningless string of sounds that had an "-ov" tacked on the end of it, it's not a real last name. There's also a mistake where Major Ilich uses Ilich as his last name; Ilich is actually a patronym "middle name" in Russian, meaning that his father was a man named Ilya; it's notable that Russian localization of Assault Horizon solves that by calling him Major Ilichev, with Ilichev being a valid last name derived from the first name Ilya and patronym Ilich.
I think, this feature doesn't appear in the Strangereal Universe because all of the countries talk Japanese? However, I'm wrong also because, in Belka they talk Belkan (German) as an example
it doesn't appear bc canonically everybody speaks English but has they're own language too. But I think that English is just an adaptation of Japanese .
