    The best thing you can do for your friends is to send them snowboarding how to youtube channels/videos to watch in advance and show them how to do toe/heel edge barefoot (before they even get to the resort) so they can see and practice what they should be doing with their feet/legs/hips/shoulders! Also getting off the bunny slopes and getting on a section of snow where I could actually get momentum made ALL the difference!

    Sad but true friends teaching friends doesn't work well most of the time, judging by the number people "we find sitting on the runs" crying and in trouble. Often told; "your doing good we'll catch back up with you on the next run"!!

    back in 1998 ,my third day snowboarding, some mates took me on a hike to the top of a peak in meribel (french alps). we smoked a big doobie while the sun was setting then they sent me down the super steep fresh powdered chute. i nearly pooped my pants and ended up bouncing off a rock on the way down. one of the stupidest things i've ever done and still one my best memories.

    Oh man... I've had a friend of mine do all these things to me all on the same trip and it nearly turned me away from the sport. Thankfully, I'm a relatively resilient individual and I actually discovered I had more fun (and progressed at a higher rate) when I went off to do my own thing and enjoy trails at my own pace.

      Oh no! Glad you stuck with it! Do you have an example of something they were telling you?

    • @ActionXander
      @ActionXander Před rokem +1

      @@SnowboardProCamp over-coaching was one of them and just overloading me with too much feedback all at once from one or two people. Another one was "it's your third day you should've gotten that down already". Felt so demoralizing especially seeing others around you progress so much faster and essentially leaving you in the dust. I think the only "positive" experience was at the end of the day getting a high five and being told great runs 🤣 I learned a lot from it and I've taught a few of my own friends but I try to not even tell them too much. I like your approach and I've used it too in that take one or two aspects of snowboarding and try to work on that first before they're comfortable to tackle the next.

    @ Kevin-SBProCamp. I like these tips & have experienced these issues. I would like you make a sister video (s) that gives an example of the fixes or the better way to coach for each of these DON'TS. Make a "Good" Way to Teach Friends (or Anyone) to Snowboard" video. That may take a bit of doing or time but learning to snowboard (SB) entails more than just jumping on the board & going, as you know. I like the basics: show me on paper/snow what I'm doing using SB's edges, know parts & names of the SB & edges. All that stuff is in another one of your videos. OK they looked at those videos. Got it. Now they are strapped in, they learned to stand, glide, one foot skate, & get on & OFF the lift. Standing there on the mountain -- tell me what the next thing I need to know & or do to start learning how to SB. This video is a bit past the last thing we learned = on/off lift. We are starting to make turns - From THERE, what do you tell your family or friends to do to NOT make these mistakes you've pointed out in this nice video? Thank you so much!

      Def don't teach friends. Always ends horribly. 9 out of 10 the "instructor" will be more showing off what HE can do, instead of really teaching the friend

      Literally my first day on the mountain on a snowboard. Did 4h training which ead thought by my friend in an indoor center. Went on holiday with them. The took me to a red slope (which was icy AF) with no way off the slope. Couldn't get 2 turns in without falling hard on my face or butt. They went ahead a little bit and the slope was so icy they couldn't walk back up to come get me. So they went down and up again instead.. horrible first day 😪
