So funny watching Manly look at the scrolling text saying "Your seat is number: 8" and being too busy panicking to go to seat 8 and sit in it.
real
It was so frustrating for me, especially how right after it talked about an intruder and I was like that office "NO GOD PLEASE" meme when he didnt read the rest of that one either lol
@@conman17what was the rest?
@Letycs I dont think there was anymore but because it had just happened and we could SEE it was seat 8, I thought maybe there could be more, I donnnntttt think there was more but I panicked because of it lol
What happens if you sit at your seat?
(sees nice autumn leaves on the trees) "we're in hell"
Well it was a weird association, but pretty sure he was right lol. Well maybe not hell, but at least the afterlife.
The red leaf jungle is usually portrayed as hell/afterlife/purgatory in Japanese anime and games, kinda like the red spider lily is associated with death.
@@huytungnguyen119 Really? So would a natural grove of Japanese maples be considered unlucky or be associated with death, in Japan?
I live in the Northeastern US, and it always makes me a little sad when I learn people don't like when a bunch of one of our native plants or shrubs grows together due to some unlucky association... they tend to get cleared :(
@@huytungnguyen119that’s… interesting…
It's funnier to me that "Hell" still has Boss Coffee machines at its train stop.
The Chilla’s Art games have improved A LOT (in terms of animation, story, art, etc) but I love that they still have that sort of strange/off vibe that they’ve had since the beginning
I was just about to comment on the fidelity of their games have improved a fair bit.
I need Cory to play it too 😭
Totally agreed lil Tojo
I was JUST thinking this as I noticed the NPCs in the game and suddenly realised how much of an improvement they are to earlier games in the series. Good on them, these are real impressive improvements.
@@TheFrostedfireflyalthough the npcs have improved, i did find the unrealistic looking npcs sorta creepy in a way. it just added to the spooky factor

Really interesting how games inspire/expand off each other. "I'm on observation duty" had the original concept, "Exit 8" added the time loop, and now "Shinkansen 0" combining the idea with a narrative.
Plus the idea to swap directions in the second half was a great way to mix up the formula
I wonder what you’d call this genre anyways. And I do love the innovations here.
I think the next innovation would be to give the player the ability to interact with the anomalies in some way. Like maybe you can take an anomalous object back with you and it can interact in some way to a “normal” floor, causing it to change in some way and opens up different pathways or something.
It seems like Exit 8 was also inspired by P.T, which is pretty genius considering how much of a horror icon it still is today
The narrative was actually surprisingly good.
That final shot with the siblings on the train tracks actually made me feel something, which is pretty impressive for a game with a concept like this.
Also, Exit 8 being inspired by P.T. makes a lot of sense, because if you actually think about it...P.T. basically had the same structure. You loop through the same hallway over and over again, observing or searching for the changes which happen around you. It basically is the same thing gameplaywise.
@dx-ek4vr maybe add the character interactions from something like "That's not my Neighbor" to the hallway-anomaly genre? Would be a lot of extra things to remember, the developer would need to be careful
One thing I noticed was partway through the train has an announcement about a passenger collapsing, and then the car after has another announcement of there being an intruder on the train.
I realized at the end that the first announcement was from the living world train, talking about your collapse. The second announcement came from the spirit world train, talking about you showing up on the train when you shouldn't, since you only passed out and aren't actually dead.
No the first announcement is talking about the boy and woman. They died in the crash.
@@josephoda I remember in the personal injury announcement you can hear someone getting ran over and tumbling under the train
@@ajh.7 I did not hear that at first-

the woman running pushing the food cart super fast is probably the most I've jumped in a chilla's game, I love scares like that, no loud noises, just something that when you notice it gets you off guard
the girl instead of a sign was pretty creepy too
She was late, this is the adult equivalent to a schoolgirl running with toast in her mouth
That was pretty scary not gonna lie, but it wasn’t until the climax close to the end when going to the normal side of the train and being chased by that ghost with the eerie/creepy music playing in an attempt to get to the conductors room/pressing the button that terrified me the most.
20:31 "Could be subtle..." as a demonic face stares at him through the window.
Easy to miss tbf
Yeah,i Check several time is the Reflection really wrong because of how fast Manly turn his mouse
I had to replay this part 4 times before seeing it so its easy to miss i guess 😭💀😂
yeah I saw that there was something wrong with the reflection, but had to replay few times that part as Manly turns waay to fast to this kind of game lool
So the first ending is where 'You' get off the train. And go to the afterlife. Second ending is where you escort the 'Brother' and 'Sister' to the afterlife. And wake up in the real world.
20:31 manly literally saying “it could be something subtle” and not noticing the womans reflection was hilarious
Oh, turn back if there ISN'T an anomaly is a great choice, because not only does it mess with people (especially those that played Exit 8 before), but it forces you through the zone even if you already noticed something very wrong.
Forcing to walk the path knowing that there is a nasty sight out there was really a good ideia
yeah and to add it is the opposite in comparison to the learning stage so it messes with you even more
20:31 "Could be something subtle", the guy outside be like :)
or the computer ladies reflection lol
That is pretty subtle given the reflection is not the clear.
I was surprised he didn't catch that because I saw it right away! Gave me a lil spook!

But sir, it is the weekend…
"Your haircuts an anomaly" DAYUM.
8:49 When you see that he is about to finish the game but there's still 40 minutes remaining.
*Somethings wrong, I can feel it*
It’s super creepy in hindsight when you realize that the thing chasing MBH when he chose to go to through the normal cars probably caught the girl. Everything ended good for him but he would’ve never known what happened to her or the boy.
I love ghost stuff that puts people in separate dimensions or whatever. Makes you think everyone made it out just because you did, but you never end up seeing those other people ever again…
yeah so eerie
All of the train Boarders are Dead... Even the old man hints you this.
Wow, that was surprisingly sad. Then again, Japanese horror stories often are. I'm glad they took the time to show them seemingly happy again in the end.
Yeah, for Chilla's Art standard, this is one of ending with more positive note. None of the characters here suffers in the end, despite all the supernatural element.
Which contrast to their usual formula of mundane horror, with generally downer endings.
36:27 - the anime reference is jujutsu kaisen when utahime iori and mei mei broke the curse loop
About to say that!! Nice detail
yeah season 2 ep 1. The jjk reference is crazy lol.
I was looking so long for this comment
also when Manly mentioned Haruhi he means that a lot of fans dropped Haruhi Suzumiya after watching "The Endless Eight"
omg i was gonna say that
This gave me that weird feeling one gets when traveling by train at night. When you cant see outside and the whole train seem so cramped even when there is almost nobody there. Its like a whole new world, like the world outside vanishes. It takes me exactly 6 hours to Prague where I visit my friends. In such a long time the train becomes a prison. Also Its hard to draw and write. Atleast one can watch youtube videos...
Then here is the United States, where it takes like 12 hours of straight driving to get through a state.
@@Teenage_Mutant_Ginga_Ninja Yeah, we used to travel by car to other countries like that. I would say that gas stations have a similar weird feeling when you are out on the road for too long. As for the US, my country is much smaller than most of the states there. That's why we don't use airplanes as much as you guys and it makes total sense. Maybe airplanes give a similar feeling? Different countries have different issues I suppose. I also heard that it's harder to drive in the US because it's either too many lanes or just a straight road that makes you sleepy. Also corn, lots of corn. Tales of corn.
Where in Europe are you? Are you German or French or something? Its ok if you don’t wanna disclose tho.
@@tarinvernon7007 I felt that. My home state is full of corn fields.

i heard the ichi but I wasnt aware it is counting the mistake lol
Didn't the boy mention it earlier
same here, I heard it and was like it didn't coincide with the number on the floor. Until I realized he messed up the third time and the voice said "san"
i love this "spot anomalies" games, but as a recently aging person its becoming increasingly harder to find them while im not the one actually playing
29:14 manly not realizing he is the intruder lmao
The thing of getting the player fixated on the smaller details is the greater effect when something is really off. Only viable on environments like a liminar minimalist train station, though.

The true ending is tragic. I can only assume the boy fell and his sister tried to save him at the station? Regardless, getting subway surfer'd is a terrible way to go. ...imagine a Unity Bug themed version of this whole concept.
Animations and such would get played too soon, you'd still need to start the animations as the player walks through the door (or for example, the cart lady might already be at the end if you took too long and didn't pause animations.)
If even 1 starting co-ordinate is off on the animation, it'll look a bit weird at the start. It's not quite as easy as you'd think

I jumped at the girl's reflection on the window ☠️ Chilla really upped the observation game! Coupled with their uncanny valley vibe and story, it's really eerie
I like how in "Exit 8" we were at the subway station, now we are in the train
that face seriously was unnerving
"Could be something subtle" he says as he stares where there was a terrifying bright blue face in the window behind the lady ahhahaha, right as he said it, what a shame he missed it!
Missing when the game literally spells out the answer for him is funnier though..."Your seat is: 8."
27:59 it is so hilarious how you turned around exactly as it was about to display your seat
I just love how good and improved Chilla's Art games are now.
One of my favorite game creators.
I love Chilla’s work how it always feels so upto par and realistic but then something feels so off with the models and a few other things by choice. It’s wild how much they’ve improved. I really hope they eventually like make a full game out of one of these and sell it or make a full one for some money because man they deserve it as not only a writer, but a game designer, artist, programmer and so much more! If they have a way of donating like a patreon or anything id love to know!
I'm pretty sure they do have patreon, as a lot of their games have some in-game collectibles with their supporters pictures.
@@YEPCLOCK69 wonder if they put their supporters into their games, and manly just insulted some random person's haircut lmao

I love how amazingly accurate the layout is. I have been on a few JR and bullet trains. When I was in Japan.
Looka like an N700 interior but the cockpit canopy is from the 500 series
Im pretty sure the creator is Japanese
Ok, this was a VERY impressive take on the concept. Chilla may not be the first to the idea but this is a really solid entry. The addition of the story helped a lot.
Poor girl in the ending where you go through first class...
i love him trying to figure out if the sandwiches changed from ham to pastrami or some sh*t, meanwhile all the changes are all actual spooky stuff. like do you think luggage storage and ham sandwiches are that scary, mister manlybadasshero? lol
You know what’s funny? A Japanese vocaloid artist named MARETU posted a song this morning about cooking people and serving them. I believe it’s called BiNoMi or Delicacy.
ooh, I'll have to listen to that. I love MARETU.
I was thinking the same thing lmao
Very Andy & leyley vibes lol
theory:
I think the siblings are dead and on "the road to heaven" or the path to the afterlife. At first I thought the reverse, and the player is dead and that's why the exit is bright light. But that was debunked by the Doc saying the siblings were in an accident earlier. So the player & them must be in some kind of Purgatory like in-between. Hence, the sister saying "It's not your time yet".
That's not a theory That's just the story
Yeah.. that is literally the story lol.
Here is a theory. Getting through the loop decides if you live or not. the siblings failed to get through the loop. or maybe only if you have a chance to live and the girl did not loop because her death was guaranteed?
That's... pretty explicitly said in the game itself? Not much of a theory when the game literally just flat out tells you that lmao
Yes but also, when the Player steps into the White Light in the other endings, that's Them dying before Help arrives. The reason the sister was asleep all the time, too, was because she wasn't dead YET, she was alive For a little after collision
This type of game is quite interesting and this one makes special progress on the whole formula by adding mistakes, characters to interact and failure scenarios
Awesome to see another chillas art game. An interesting spin on the anomaly spotter games. Turned a little psychological horror at the end. its cool that the devs were able to tell a story through a game concept like this.
That food cart looked delicious tho, they had chili dogs, hero sandwiches, blueberry muffins, and all kinds of drinks, those refreshments would make it very hard to leave.

This was my favorite Chillas Art game so far! I couldn't look away and the ending was satisfying without undermining the scare factor. ⭐
All of the seat numbers that have people are multiples of 4, nice subtle detail
(for anyone that doesn't know, 4 is an unlucky number in Japan because it can be pronounced 'shi', which means death)

2. When they say “occupied”, say “not anymore you’re not” and walk away.

The human models in this game look much better compared to the ones in Chilla's other games, oddly enough.
I think what has made this game type popular, is not only do people love "spot the difference" stuff (obviously observation duty getting popular shows that lol), but then add in the whole "liminal space" aesthetic to the game too (which a lot of clones also seem to be doing as well!) and you just get this "familiar, yet eerie" type of game that's really enticing to play, as well as find all the different types of anomalies that they can give
