    Thanks for the video! I just add this explanation of why infarct appears as a decreased ADC and increased signal in DWI:
    "In the setting of acute cerebral ischemia, if the cerebral blood flow is lowered to 10 ml/100gm/min, the cell membrane ion pump fails and excess sodium enters the cell, which is followed by a net movement of water from the extracellular to intracellular compartment and cytotoxic edema. Diffusion of the intracellular water molecules is restricted by the cell membranes. The restricted diffusion results in a decreased ADC and increased signal intensity on diffusion-weighted images."

    This is so helpful! Thanks. I'm taking some MRI grad classes, and these videos definitely help to solidify key ideas before heading into a lecture that would otherwise totally baffle me. I will confess, though, that I find the music throughout a bit distracting.
    Anyway -- thanks for the time and effort you put into this! It is a massive help.

    • @DoctorKlioze
      @DoctorKlioze  Před 3 lety +5

      I'm glad it helped! I definitely learn a lot myself putting them together. You're not the first to tell me about the music. The whole 3D animation and video production process has been a learning experience in and of itself. Because of constructive criticism like yours, I've added and subtracted some audio and video elements over the years to hopefully make the presentations more relevant and succinct. Promise to back off of the distracting background noise going forward! Thanks for the feedback and good luck with your studies.

      @@DoctorKlioze I imagine it's a great way to learn! They say teaching is the best way to solidify things. And your animations really add a lot -- the visual plays a huge role in making the info accessible!
      I went on to the DTI video after watching this one and noticed the music was much quieter! Love a creator who is receptive to feedback (esp as internet people are not always nice about it).
      Cheers!

    Here's a question for you. Since T1 relaxation dumps heat into the patient, can you localise this effect within a tumour and use it therapeutically? It would be nice to fry tumour cells without harming the patient, and not exposing him or her to X rays!

    • @DoctorKlioze
      @DoctorKlioze  Před 6 lety

      Interesting concept! The only difficulty I can see is defining a homogeneous 3D magnetic field that basically encompasses the tumor itself and leaves the surrounding tissues unharmed. Then the resonant RF energy would only affect the protons in the tumor itself. Figure it out and I'll probably see you heading to Oslo to collect your Nobel Prize!!

  • @aronsari8133
    @aronsari8133 Před rokem

    So CSF with higher B values will have a low signal because with a long enough dephasing and rephasing magnetic gradient CSF with its isotropic diffusuion will be just pushed way too out of phase to give any signal. Proportionatly lower B values may give some more signal with CSF and more shine through, while b0 has no de and rephasing magnetic gradients, so it will essentially just be T2 CSF intensity and very sensitive to any shine through. Is this assumption correct? Also, what is the difference between a b0 and an actual T2 image? Could You in theory skip the b0 if you have a T2 and just use it as b0 instead?
    Excellent video btw!!

    Diffusion is important because it describes the failure of water to transport across a cellular membrane, due to a pathological state, that is not clearly elaborate here.

    • @DoctorKlioze
      @DoctorKlioze  Před 3 lety +1

      I've tried that with other videos however, with these complex topics, viewer retention is an issue. For instance this particular video has an average view time of 5:29 which is about 40% of the total. With the new social media mindset, brevity seems to be king! If you can't state your case in less then 10 minutes, your audience gets board! Thanks for the suggestion, however.
