Identical car, in color too, that I drove with my driver’s permit and then tested with and received my driver’s license in 1980-81. My parents had me drive 100% of the trip from N. IL to Clearwater Beach FL under my permit. I’m surprised they could relax enough to sleep. The kids at my school called me “The Rich kid” just because my Mom would drop me off to school in it. Kids called it a Limo. We were not wealthy my Dad just liked luxury cars.

I have almost the same car 78 Continental Town Coupe. Same condition with 38K original miles. Same Wedgewood Blue interior with Medium Blue Metallic exterior. People just love these old panther platform cars !!

Right, if it's not a 400 modified or a 460, it's not the correct engine.
Probably it's what is known as the M400, based on the 351 Cleveland. It will actually accelerate quicker than the 460... Why? Gearing maybe... But the 460 gets better mileage. The 400 will have to Rev higher through the gears... Both are reliable.
