I can remember as far back as elementary school calling women thick. And it not being a bad thing at all. The late 80’s and 90’s. Not to call out this girl name, but I remember one of my friends from back then nicknamed this chic from our neighborhood Meat & Potatoes. She knew it. It was a nickname we called her. And she wasn’t offended because she was fine as hell. Even later in life. She just never fell off or nothing. And she was always blessed.

Body positivity is not about being happy with an unhealthy body. Its about being happy with who you are regardless of what you look like. It does not promote an unhealthy lifestyle, but you shouldn't feel bad about yourself while you are working to get healthy.
@@ianditwin7443 I don't necessarily agree with not showing off your body if you feel like it. I think the problem is that Lizzo may very well be metabolically healthy. She has lost a significant amount of weight and she is able to tour multiple cities with a heavy dance set every day. That takes a strong healthy body. Most people who are overweight are not fit and have underlying health problems. The same can be said about normal weight people. Just because you are of normal weight doesn't mean you are healthy. The conversation needs to shift from body image. The appearance of someone's body is deceiving.
@@coffeebooksandthoughts I agree that it isn't as simple as body shape. There are certain heavy set people that have weight distributed more evenly throughout their body or have more hips if a woman. But we still have to be cautious. I'm not sure of your age range but if you remember Heavy D was very light on his feet. Dance up a storm on stage. Problem is, it seems the weight problem can still creep up on you sooner or later. Lizzo would still need to lose a lot of weight especially as she gets older.

Exactly, listen as a BW who’s gained weight due to an uncontrollable mobility issue ( currently waiting on surgery) I’m well aware and not happy with the weight gain. These dudes have never actually listened to Lizzo's comments. She's not promoting being unhealthy (she has multiple videos and posts up about exercising and getting yourself right). Body positivity around your body weight is always a good thing. A lot of issues around eating and keeping yourself in shape can come from the mental health side of things, and lifting people up regardless of what shape they're in actually improves their chances of getting the motivation to improve their physical health. But we know what this is about. Shaming people for being overweight has never been about being interested in their health.

As someone who was born skinny like skinny. And to be in my early 40’s and have a dad bod I guess at this point. Food isn’t easy to shake. And it can be associated with lack of it earlier in life. You finally get some money. You eating good. You work remote. So you move less. And like Michael said about the gym. I got a manual treadmill in my house. Then injured my foot. Eating bad and trying to change it, but not having a support system with it. It’s hard bruh. It’s something since Nov 29th I haven’t had chicken or beef. But. People outside my family I careless. But when people you care for and provide for and fight for get mad at you for trying to change your eating because you’ve decided you want to be healthier and happier & they mad at you. I mean. I can remember as far back as elementary school calling women thick. And it not being a bad thing at all. The late 80’s and 90’s. Body positivity is not about being happy with an unhealthy body. Its about being happy with who you are regardless of what you look like. It does not promote an unhealthy lifestyle, but you shouldn't feel bad about yourself while you are working to get healthy.

She has lost a significant amount of weight and she is able to tour multiple cities with a heavy dance set every day. That takes a strong healthy body. Most people who are overweight are not fit and have underlying health problems. The same can be said about normal weight people. Just because you are of normal weight doesn't mean you are healthy. The conversation needs to shift from body image. The appearance of someone's body is deceiving.

But we still have to be cautious. I'm not sure of your age range but if you remember Heavy D was very light on his feet. Dance up a storm on stage. Problem is, it seems the weight problem can still creep up on you sooner or later. Lizzo would still need to lose a lot of weight especially as she gets older.

Being proud of being obese, we are really living in a sick period of history
It's about being proud of what you were born with. Most fat people have a cosmetic issue because of culture pressure not a significant health problem. Skinny people get sick and die just as much as fat people. Alot of fat people live long and productive lives. These dudes have never actually listened to Lizzo's comments. She's not promoting being unhealthy (she has multiple videos and posts up about exercising and getting yourself right). Body positivity around your body weight is always a good thing. A lot of issues around eating and keeping yourself in shape can come from the mental health side of things, and lifting people up regardless of what shape they're in actually improves their chances of getting the motivation to improve their physical health.
But we know what this is about. Shaming people for being overweight has never been about being interested in their health.

Yo this was a good topic... I know vlad ain’t “part of the community” but he does have the platform to bring enough folks together..... but this is a reality for many folks of color... my family got a history of high blood pressure.... my wife and I both go to the gym 3-5times a week, but getting out parents to adapt the same lifestyle is extremely difficult.... it only are you fighting people stuck in there ways, but also a full backing of cultural norms.....

As someone who was born skinny like skinny. And to be in my early 40’s and have a dad bod I guess at this point. Food isn’t easy to shake. And it can be associated with lack of it earlier in life. You finally get some money. You eating good. You work remote. So you move less. And like Michael said about the gym. I got a manual treadmill in my house. Then injured my foot. Eating bad and trying to change it, but not having a support system with it. It’s hard bruh. It’s something since Nov 29th I haven’t had chicken or beef. But. People outside my family I careless. But when people you care for and provide for and fight for get mad at you for trying to change your eating because you’ve decided you want to be healthier and happier & they mad at you. I mean. They’re mad at you because they don’t want your change to make them feel guilty for not changing. And they don’t support you. Even when you have a breakdown and arguments on how hard it is for you to change. If they ain’t trying to hear you because they’ve selfishly inserted them into you. You question well. How much does this person actually love me? You can’t love me if you’re cheering me on to harm myself right? Are you waiting for me to die so you can cash in something? Do you secretly hate me? It can take a toll and make you think. This ain’t really how I thought my life would be when I was younger. I know we have challenges, but I didn’t know something that seems so simple could be the biggest fight for my life literally. I don’t know. People have their own struggles in life.
