Having seen @DavidWilsonOutandAbout having fun with his Aquatec Ottawa with the Hiqmar e-FIN attached, I had high hopes for this. Unfortunately my experience was quite so positive.
On the plus side the company are working with me to address the problem.
I have received a second motor/fin mount to try.
Someone else from the firm reckons the battery wasn't charged fully - however I know it was. They said it would still work in reverse because reverse doesn't draw as much power.
There will be a follow up :) I've recharged the battery and I'll test the second motor fin and naturally video it. If it happens again then it's likely the battery is at fault.

I tried this motor fin, last weekend, and I had a Blast. It was super fun. I used it for 45 min against the current of the Jacques-Cartier river (a section with-out rapid) and it was a GREAT help. It was on my Aquaglide Blackfoot 180, 2 persons on board and fully loaded.
It's a lot of fun isn't it! 😁
Looks a really interesting product, much like ebikes it makes this hobby more accessible for those in a bit of pain etc with paddling for a long time. Will be interesting to see what the customer service is like as its certainly not a cheap product.

Hope you get back to feeling better buddy. 5 weeks is a long time to be off the water 😢.
It was. It started in July and whilst I'm back on the water now I'm still having to bear it in mind so I don't get complacent and reinjure myself 😀
Keep us posted on how you get on, as I was thinking of either getting this same motor or the Kahe Pod for my inflatable kayak.

I am just gonna let you know the safety cord attaches to you so if you fall in the water, the boat doesn’t run away from you, it’s mostly there for petrol motors it’s so you don’t have a runaway boat and in the eventuality the electronics the boat capsizes completely shut off

Oh. I thought it was not working straight out of the box. Personally, I think a complete replacement is in order, not just separate components.
The not working out of the box thing was me trying it dry and misunderstanding what it did when running dry. Once in the water I fully expected it to be A-OK :/
Hi Karl, one of my subscribers contacted me recently, he also had an issue with the e-fin not operating. He said the supplier was sending him out a new remote control. Have you got a multimeter? The battery fully charged should read 29.2V at 100% charging and 27.2V resting.

How do you test it when it's charging? I've not much experience with a miltimeter and I'm not really sure what I'd be doing with the red/black pins?

The aqua marina bluedrive S should be ok according to some reviews, and you can buy seperate batteries for it = endless range in theory. It cost a lot more, but it might be worth a look when you run out of patience with cheap amazon products:)

First of all, i made the cardinal sin of commenting before watching the video, i just saw people talking about it being broke, so sorry about that. But now that i have watched it, i’m pretty sure someone cheated you out of your money for this product, because the aqua marina bluedrive S only goes for around 30 minutes on a full charge, and with a battery that looks similar to this in size. (Check their website for precise numbers) So if they told you this would run for 5+ hours, chances are they were simply lying to you. So it probably didn’t break, but simple ran out of power way sooner than you expected. Why it can still go in reverse i don’t know, but i bet if you charge it again it will go for the same amount of time and then stop again. If it does, you know it’s the battery, and in the end the sellers fault.
@@Alfahippie there isn't just this product on the market with a longer battery life - the E-propulsion Vaquita has a longer life too. The product is genuine. David Wilson who's commented on this thread has one and has had no issues. I'm just unfortunate that I have.
I just tried to compare the specs of the 2 models, but it takes someone with more electrical knowledge than me to figure it out. Numbers are 25,6V/288WH with a claimed runtime of 5 hours for this, vs 11,1V/8,8AH with a runtime of 1 hour on the aqua marina. If anybody else reading this knows about this stuff, does it add up?🤔
(i would like a motor like this for my own kayak, that’s why i’m also keen to know)

Had so much promise, it could be a way for me to get on the water, though my balance is crap, so maybe not

I won't believe it lasts 5 hours in Drive mode. Maybe in reverse mode hahah Somebody has to do a test. like with EV cars... :)
