Battered by a Storm | Thunder, Lightning, Heavy Rain & Strong Wind

- With a yellow weather warning we take the opportunity to go wild camping in a storm expecting heavy rain, strong winds and thunder and lightning. We head to the coast for with new camping gear testing premium vs budget tents, the premium tunnel tent the Terra Nova Starlite 2 vs the budget tunnel tent the Vango Scafell 200. With a perfectly timed break in the weather we quickly setup before the rain storm and strong wind returns, with our anemometer to measure true wind speeds.

Scafell is excellent for money
I've just found you and i have enjoyed your content and I'm surprised that you dont have many more subs. We have a Scafell 3 and it held up in a storm againts tents that cost ten times more. Couldnt falt it! Tbh, weve got 4 tents and 3 of them are Vango of different sizes and they held up better than the 4th. The vango storm strapping is excellent. I have liked and subscribed and wish you good luck. Your a pleasant pr of guys. Thank you.

Thanks for your comment. We do have quite a few Vango tents ourselves, we’ve only had any real issue with the Soul (but the tent was replaced without issue) You find the storm strap work? We’ve never found it did much in the Cairngorm but the Scarfell definitely stood up well.
We just plod along and do what we enjoy doing really, sometimes we get a handful of views and sometimes we get a few thousand! Thanks again! Onwards and upwards 👍
A 2 man (geodesic) tunnel tent I had was the tarra. The inside space doesnt get effected in high winds.
Hi Alan & Phil, wow! You guys like a challenge and I love your idea of a cheeky wild camp😂 Thunder, lightening, gales and lashing rain - purfick! You must be in advanced training for the Dartmoor ATT Challenge, must be 🤔?😂! That was some wind, when I saw your tent pegs Phil, I thought your tent was going to fly off into orbit! But fairplay you kept on smiling and laughing the way through - the best way IMHO. Let’s hope there’s no PTSD a few days later on when you put on the tumble dryer 😂! Hello Pete, that was a purfick camp lol. I'm in my element when the weather is like that, wind rain thunder the lot, love it. No ATT Challenge training we promise. One peg was giving out a bit for sure Pete, But got to see what the tents made of 😂👌😂, and it was fine tbf. It was loud in there for sure, the tumble dryer can stay off for a week now lol. Yea was some strong gusts of wind coming through at one point John, the Anemometer app on phone is so addictive tbf I was looking at it all evening lol 😂. Don't think we would push them tents any more than that though. ATB Phil & Alan
Nice vid, glad you boys survived the night. I recently did my first camp in a storm that was not forecast, amazing experience and nice to have such a camp under my belt. In the Abisko lite 2 similar tent, a bit platypus in the wind but like your tents, didn’t budge!👊👊

Got a storm camp under your belt now hay! nothing like it when the tent getting battered by the wind and rain 👊. Them tunnel tents do shift about a bit tbf, but its all fun. we survived the night ready for the next storm.

Nice spot, I camped there earlier in the year, I know one thing, you don't wanna shelter in them caves 🤣 I remember feeling the cliffs shake as the waves battered against them. Nice vid! 👍

Hello, when did you camp there? When the sea's are rough you can definitely feel the cliffs shake 🥴, sometimes a bit to much. We were down the coast about a mile from there one night looking out to sea, when a rogue wave came from nowhere, it engulfed us both was like having a swimming pool of water chucked on us, needless to say we got up on higher ground straight away. And you are right, them caves can be a bit dodgy for sure. ATB ApoutdoorsUk
@@apoutdoorsuk I did a 3 day hike along there in the summer. Next time your down that way check out the bay next to the deserted village. I won't say more because it will give away your location but u should be able to find it from that. The bay is 👌 👌👌 for camping with a view 😁
