My Beautiful Home project 2015, Painted huts of Zimbabwe, by Veronique Attala

  • In the beautiful Matobo hills of Zimbabwe, we organize a competition to reward and encourage the tradition of painted huts
    with clay, ashes and charcoal. As for sand castles, the rain washes away the designs of the previous year. Then, after the rains and when the harvest is finished, usually during the months of june-july, the women have time to re-decorate their homes showing real genuine artistic talent, as you will see in this little video. "Kholisa..." (Enjoy, as we say here)

    I am lost for words, this is beyond exquisite, I wonder why we have trained our minds to call this architecture primitive? I am so tired of the cement boxes we build these days that suck the life out of us because of population and all. African must go back to the basics, this is where real beauty is.

    Wow. This took me back to my formative years. My mom used to decorate our living area almost the same way, but she was not as good as my aunt in Bale Ha-Manenzhe in the Limpopo valley of South Africa. This is disappearing fast. Thanks for the post. As a budding filmmaker, I am tempted to archive.some of the homes that still decorate this way. Well done!!

    • @zouero
      @zouero  Před 3 lety +2

      It is not about building the most extraordinary cathedral in over 100 years with thousands of people but about making the most humble home into a piece of true Art using the surrounding materials, with 1 person working hard during a month, knowing that this will last only until the rains wash it away. A 1000 years ago, around Winchester, most builders lived in poor houses which have not survived the time, but I doubt they were very appealing. Ugly constructions with the excuse of poverty are common features of this world, in all countries. Let's hope that some will take example to the people of Zimbabwe and make their home an artwork, no matter what, to make this world more beautiful, also for the pleasure of people like you who might come in this part of the world.
