I keep forgetting that you guys had white Yamahas back then. In the US you were cool if you found the white Euro plastic for your YZ. I bet that shock helps a lot. Did the 81 have a 6 speed trans?
Yeah the suspension is so much better now with the ohlin shock and race tech gold valve setup at the front. These 81 250s are 5speed. The 1980 were 6speed but apparently the gearbox were a little weaker dont hats why they went to 5speed in 81 and beefed up a little

Absolutely beautiful restoration. I didn't know the 81 YZ 250 had YEIS , I thought the 82 was the first for YEIS .

Had one in the uk but they were white
This is a uk bike and it was originally white but I was inspired by the Bob Hannah bike so I chose yellow 👍🏻

What did you do to restore the engine cases?
Engine was stripped. Vapour blasted and powder coated. All new bearings, clutch, genuine rod. New piston kit etc etc. all fixings were re zinc coated

It’s an Ohlins shock. I don’t think they have one for a 78 but I know RaceTech can probably build Il you one or rebuild the one you have.
