    I have been doing dip powder for a while now.. I would like to shed some light. Suzie obviously started out with acrylic or gel already on her nails. Of course they look so thick! When starting on your natural nails, dip powder (for me) is actually thinner than acrylic. Also to get the cuticle to look thinner, you start your first dip only 3/4 of the way down. Then your 2 & 3 (yes three dips) all the way to the cuticle. You can also shape/file after your activator step is completely dry. For those of you who say "Why not just use polish". Dip gets hard! To the consistency of acrylic. Too time consuming and too many steps?? no way... From start to finish (this includes soak off of previous mani) it takes me 30 min MAX! I'll keep dipping!

      Omg I'm so glad I came across your comment girl! I'm a beginner and want to learn how to diy my own natural nails with dipping powder. Can you shed some of that good knowledge on what all I would need from prep to finish please?😊

    • @laurenortego904
      @laurenortego904 Před 5 lety +91

      @@danasm1587 Yes girl!! So, I either use Peppi Gel or Revel nail system which includes 3 steps (polish bottles) plus the dip powder. To prep my nails I buff and swipe with acetone. Doing one hand at a time, I start with the step one polish going about 3/4 of the way down the nail and then dip into the powder. This will keep the nail from being super thick at the bed. You will do this on every nail then gently dust off any excess powder with a brush. I just use a cheap elf blush brush. Then you will repeat the first process but by going all the way down the nail bed being very careful not to touch the cuticle. after I dip I take a toothpick to make a nice smooth round edge right at the cuticle. You will repeat this process again. So step "1" will be done three times. Again be very careful to keep off of the skin because wherever the base touches the powder will stick. Then you will move on to your step 2 bottle. you will paint each nail (and doesn't have to be neat so go crazy) wiping off your brush between each application. You do not want any powder to transfer into this jar. After each nail is painted then you will wait 2 minutes and you can buff. You just want to get the nail smooth and shapely. Apply step 2 again and wait another 2 minutes. Now the last step. Polish each nail with step three twice. Once you make it from Thumb to pinkie you can immediately start your second coat. Be careful to not get this step on any skin! Wait two minutes and you're done!

    Girl! You've GOT TO USE THE ACTIVATOR BEFORE YOU FILE, LOVE! And THEN you're at liberty to file and shape. The dip powder nails will NEVER FULLY DRY without the activator, which is more like a monomer, it sets up the acrylic powder (which is all dip is, finely milled acrylic), but there's what's called "the activator method" in which you use your regular acrylic brush and dip it into activator, then the dip powder and it's just like doing acrylic!:) Also, after you do your base and dip the desired number of times, you use the activator and you will know that the nails are "dry" and ready to file when you tap them with a file or something and hear that clink sound, you can now do your filing, THEN after filing and shaping IT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO APPLY ANOTHER/2nd COAT OF ACTIVATOR to ensure that the activator reaches ALL areas of the dip, including some which might have been exposed due to filing and buffing; THEN (ANOTHER VERY IMPORTANT STEP) AFTER ALLOWING THE ACTIVATOR TO SOAK IN (for a few minutes) ***MAKE SURE TO WIPE THE NAILS VERY VERY WELL WITH A LINT-FREE CLOTH TO BOTH RUB IN ANY UNABSORBED ACTIVATOR INTO THE NAILS, AND ALSO BECAUSE YOU DEFINITELY WANT TO WIPE OFF ANY EXCESS ACTIVATOR BEFORE USING TOP COAT, OR IT WILL HARDEN YOUR TOP COAT BRUSH. ***NEXT VERY IMPORTANT TIP: The first layer of top coat, you want to do 2-3 quick swipes trying not to touch the nail as much as possible; this coat will dry sorta matte. After it's dry, you go about your second coat as you normally would, and it will dry shiny! Also you CAN apply dip powder to tips, and you CAN achieve a proper apex and structure with dip powder. See Kiara Sky's CZcams videos on dip powder. They cover ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING from 'What is dip powder?' all the way to 'How to Encapsulate Dried Flowers and Glitter using dip".
    I know how much you love growing your vast expanse of nail products, techniques, and methods, and I have just KNOW that you will be doing AMAZING THINGS with dip powders in the future. Also, I hope you know that I meant you absolutely NO DISRESPECT IN ANY WAY, I just wanted to share with you some things I have learned that have allowed me to do my own nails at home during quarantine. Right now I've got crystal clear ballerina shaped tips with encapsulated flowers and glitter accent nails, my clear nails look like glass💖 anyways from a huge fan and student of yours, I was just wanting to share some things I've learned that have greatly improved my skills and that might help you get the most/best use out of those gorgeous dip powders! I love you to bits and pieces ❤️

    I just switched to dipping powder after years of liquid gel, and I am impressed! The first appointment was a bit long because the gel had to come off, but the dipping process itself was fairly quick. What I particularly like about the powder vs. the gel is that the powder goes on much thinner than the gel, but it's still very strong & sturdy. After almost 2 weeks of the usual wear & tear my nails are still in great shape, whereas I've chipped both gel and acrylic before. Time will tell, but I'm optimistic!

    • @ELl_e..3
      @ELl_e..3 Před 6 lety +7

      Wendy Walters I got dip polish a couple of weeks ago and it's actually a very quick process. I was shocked to see how fast the entire thing was from start to finish what I wasn't happy with was the fact that two days later they started chipping and whoever did mine decided to drill my nail beds to crap and my nails underneath are very damaged. I had gone in asking for gel polish only because my nails have finally grown with a decent length and I was happy and wanted them to stay at that length and wanted something to strengthen them of course I couldn't understand them and the person said oh do this it's $5 more and it's so much better for your nails so I reluctantly agreed. NEVER again! Not only did it turn out to be $45 for dip polish that I didn't want, I went in just wanting a $20 polish on my nail and walked out spending 50 because I'm an idiot and gave the person a tip which I never should have done. 😭

    For many people who are new to dip, it is meant to go over natural nails (I always get a long af tip added) so it doesn't get super thick. It is like in place of acrylic.

For some reason, I slowly graduated into the powder but didn't know anything much about sanitation or preping the nail. I think there are a lot of misconceptions about dipping powder. 1 dipping powder is fine acrylic powder therefore using this with acrylic nails isn't necessary and makes the nail too thick. 2 to get a nail extension using dipping powder just add a tip first then dip. 3 this can be used on natural nails to add strength. 4 all these steps aren't necessary just clean the nail with acetone or alcohol, brush the glue on and dip the nail, repeats steps for thickness, file, then brush on glue to encase the acrylic and top coat it

    What gorgeous colors!!! I've been doing the ASP dipping system (from Sally's) for about 6 months on my natural nails. Breaks are pretty rare, so I have been able to grow them out and also not bite them, so it's helped curb that nasty habit. I think dipping systems are great to add strength to natural nails. For me, because this creates bulk, I'm not sure it's ideal over an acrylic or gel nail. The final product here looks bulky, which is understandable since you're adding all these layers over the bulk already there from the acrylic nail. Over natural nails this would look a lot flatter, which personally I'd prefer. Or... over natural nails with a plastic tip, like on the Kiara Sky videos. I think gel or regular nail polish is better for a full acrylic or gel nail. Personal opinion. :-)

    Hi there! My natural nails are very flat and thin with very small nail beds. I have found that using tips followed by clear dip powder and building an apex (not that easy and took me a while to work out how on my particular nails) with the clear is so good for me. I then paint them with regular or gel polish. It's a system that works really brilliantly for me as, even if I could do acrylic or gel, which I can't, I don't think there's a chance I could do my dominant hand! Anyway, just thought I'd let you know.

I keep my nails short and squared because I'm always doing something with my hands that often cause my nails to snag or break, plus chipping nail polish. This video showed me the time and work this d.i.y. project involves. It isn't any more time consuming than when I do my own file and polish job myself which is quite frequent. I'm definitely going to try this dip procedure. Thanks very much for this amazingly informative video! P.S. I'm now one of your subscribers!✨

    I do dipnails since 2012. It's big here in Quebec. You do not have the proper technique that's why you kinda have trouble doing this.
    You can put tips under, then shape and file the nails. Put the bond. First coat of base+clear powder. Base +color and repeat. Always encapsulate the color with clear. If you do not encapsulate you will sometimes see where you filed and buffed. Then put seal on and let dry. File like you would do with acrylic, i do mine with a handfile. After another layer of seal + wipe it with a nolint wipe. And you can finish with the top or a gel topcoat! Hope this can help people ♡

      Valentina Orr. Im not a nail tech. But do get dipped... they do not refill ... they redo every time... so that unlike acrylics.... there’s no buffing and filling and damage to your nail.... (those half moon lines you get) ...no nail thinning etc. ... healthier for the nail.... it grows in healthy to where you won’t need a tip.... and they are strong and hard and last... this dipping option.... when done properly.... the point is for it to look seamless.... and they look super natural.... because you can keep them pretty thin.... hers look thick in this video because she has on acrylic set... my nail tech.... only puts a tip and the powder is the substitute for the acrylic powder... hers are way to thick... not natural looking at all.... I’m no expert.... just have watched and asked my nail tech about the process... once you get the hang of it... the seps are quick.... and removal is about 5 maybe 8 minutes.... and the colors are rich.... and some can look as natural as your own nail bed... (which is awesome,because if I’m home and want a quick natural look I can polish a white tip, and re-Matt top coat). (Oh and the white tip I paint comes off easily with regular nail polish remover,with no damage to the work done by my nail tech, just a fresh top coat is needed) many like shiny.... depending on the color.... ( since it can change when clear top shine is on) ... I like them Matt.... like I said I’m no professional.... hope this helps

    I noticed how Suzie said that they can get thicker when layered... she should do a Simply Nailogical-esque "powder mountain" lmaooo

      I have my nails dipped regularly. I can no longer use acrylics due to a primer allergy and began to experience the same allergy with gel. I have had no allergic reaction to the dip process. I absolutely love my dipped nails. I am always complimented on them.

      Also, my nail tech does a bit of shaping after the nails are dipped. The final result on mine does not look as thick. I do love the colors you used.

      IGNORE THE COMMENT ABOUT
      "SIMPLY NAILOGICAL!"
      She should NOT do anything like Kristine. Apples/oranges. No shade, I promise because I watch Kristine (sp?) as well! But on this channel, I look for the foundation or fundamentals of the techniques she is educating. Again, no shade just lets keep them separate.

    NEW SUBSCRIBER. This tutorial was very informative and interesting. Plus you have such a calm and relaxing manner. I love dip powder and get it regularly at my salon. I have purchased a ton of my own powders, but haven’t been brave enough to try doing my own dip manicures - yet! Maybe if I continue watching your videos, I’ll take the leap. Thank you for showing us your technique and for giving such great patient instructions. I really like you!

    I was curious....Do you redo your nails after every video so they match or do you keep the mismatched nails until the next video

    I def am going to try this dip powder system. I love the dip powder, which is what I’ve been doing to my nails for over a month, now. Just as hard as acrylic & NO smell. I love it! Save some money & do your own nails! My natural nails are brittle & they’re growing and look really great. I type every day at work, & I’m very happy with dipping.
