That was a first class room on the ferry? But the view from the deck was gorgeous!

Hi there! I have been following you for a while, and I understand that a few months back you had a few heated exchanges with another user over the war in Gaza. Do you think it’s possible to support Israel without supporting the carpet bombing/blockade in the same way it’s possible to support Palestine without supporting Hamas? I promise I’m asking this in good faith.

Hi Dylan, thank you for following us and asking your question respectfully. So of course, you can support Israel without supporting the bombing/blockade, but that's not the only issue with Israel. Before Israel was created in 1948 it was the land of Palestine, where people of many different backgrounds were living peacefully, then after the holocaust the British decided to create a Jewish homeland for the Jewish people in Palestine where there were over 1 million people already living. Now I'm all for Jewish people having a right to peace and security free from oppression just like any other human should but not on the backs of others, not by means of massacring another race. So, they ended up taking over most of Palestine and then started the brutal occupation over what was left of the Palestinian territory, being Gaza and the West Bank. The occupation meant they were living in an apartheid state, there's no freedom of movement, they are kept behind walls, they were being attacked by settlers,, children were being forced into prison and tried in military courts, they illegally kept taking over more of the Palestinian land and expanding their borders. We know people who have witnessed all of these atrocities. It is a horrible regime, and it's all in the name of Israel and the zionist movement. These are the things that Israel stands by, crimes against humanity that have been occurring long before October 7th. We will always have love and appreciation for our Jewish brothers and sisters but not for the Israeli regime. A great resource you can look into for more information is Jewish Voice for Peace. They are an amazing Jewish group who advocates for the freedom of all.

@@TheSchells like you, I support accountability for the human rights abuses committed in Israel’s name, and I wish for a society where Jews and non-Jews have equal rights. As I said earlier, the war in Gaza is awful, and I want Palestinian civilians to be kept safe and healthy. However, I do question whether a total ceasefire is the best way to prevent that. Of course, many things could have and should have been avoided, such as the mass evacuation of over 1 million civilians in 24 hours, the indiscriminate bombing, blockade, etc. I am just worried that an end to the invasion will leave Hamas in power, and possibly lead to more attacks, which will ultimately bring more misery to both Israeli and Palestinian civilians. Once again, I want to emphasize that I do have empathy for the Palestinian people and always will, and that I understand and respect your reasons for supporting Palestine, but maybe there is a better way to resolve this than leaving Hamas in control of Gaza.
